Very good presentation how the parallel of Sodom and Jericho parallels with our days today. The book of Revelation gives the final parallel for this last generation; the two witnesses, the destruction of that great city Babylon, etc.

Hi Chris, I am enjoying your insight and perspective on these Biblical stories. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this. I keep finding repeated stories with only subtle differences and I know it is intentional but I am not sure why they are there. There are two instances of Jesus cleansing the temple, two instances of feeding the multitude, two (or maybe 3) instances of Jesus being anointed by women named Mary at a home of a person named Simon, also two Prophets named Zechariah (with different fathers Jehoida, Berechiah) stoned to death on the temple mount. These are not instances of translation errors, but actual different events that are almost identical. I believe the common thread of these stories is the indictment of the Jewish religious hierarchy failing the people that they should have been ministering to.

Is there a commentary that talked about these parallels? I don't think I ever noted the ones to Joshua 2.. obviously the one in Judges is known (Judges 19-21)
    Thanks for this!

I was thinking of the Levites wife in Judges.
It has all the same correlations.

@@lenroystewart2904 And the men of Israel turned back against the people of Benjamin and struck them with the edge of the sword, the city, men and beasts and all that they found. And all the towns that they found they set on fire.
      Judges 20:48
      They did.

*_BRILLIANT!_* Biblical interpretation begs for *_more_* of this kind of analysis. The work in *_The Bible's Hidden Wisdom: God's Reason for Noah's Flood_* takes a similar approach, using Logic, Comparison, the Holy Spirit and even Mathematics, to discover a timeline built into Genesis which is *_superior_* to those of science -- even discovering the identity (through science) of the *_"Daughters of Men"_* who were the target of the Flood.

Jesus Himself says this in Luke 17:28-36 (NIV)and parallels it to the day of His return.
28 “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
30 “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. 32 Remember Lot’s wife! 33 Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.” [36] [a]

I rather think the serpent tempted the woman because she proved to be the low hanging fruit. But, to begin with, I can't see what's wrong with eating the fruit of knowledge. It seems to me, God represents the evil in the story by attempting to stop human development. Very unamerican!

Eating the fruit involved infanticide and cannibalism. Satan is evil, because the "knowledge" he proffers is destruction.
