      Hi
You’ve got that wrong! It was JACOB that asked ‘The Man’ what His Name was’!
And He answered with a question ‘Why do you want to know my name for it is Wonderful?’

I have been an atheist my whole life, but for the past few years i’ve been trying to find my faith through videos and books. Just so it happens that I decided to read the bible tonight, and I just read genesis 32, and 5 minutes later this video get’s recommended to me, this must be a sign from God for me to stop wrestling with him. (Sorry if my english is not perfect, not my native language)

Don't worry, your english is good. Yes, I believe that this must be a sign from God to stop wrestling with Him. Just open your heart to Jesus and invite Him to be your Lord and Saviour. He is the only way and the truth to Almighty God. Amen .God bless you brother.

Mannnn this made me weep so hard... I just got off the phone talking to my daughter at 1:59pm saw this bout 2pm 11/5/24 about NOT CALLING ME TO ASK ME QUESTIONS WHAT I THINK or WHAT TO DO ...but to GO INTO PRAYER and ask the LORD 1st... and HE WILL LEAD YOU AND GUIDE YOU IN WHICH WAY TO GO... (Psalms 32:8) JESUS WILL TELL YOU THINGS YOU DONT KNOW AND TO COME..(Jeremiah 33:3) I told her how WE have to STOP GOING TO THE WORLD ASKING THEM ABOUT LIFE and THE THINGS OF GOD WHEN WE HAVE the PRECIOUS HOLY SPIRIT who would lead us and guide us in which way we should go... then this video pop up and confirm how we need to stop doing things in our own strength with worldly thinking that is demonology driven .. to have us worry fear give us double minded ways listening to this person over here and over there... THIS VIDEO BLESSED ME because the LORD BROUGHT IT TO ME... I DIDNT GO LOOKING FOR IT...

Chris, a masterful rendering of the life of Jacob. I felt my heart quicken as you tied the wrestling with God events together. I love that over lifetimes a story was created that will stand for all eternity. Such a human story. The people he chose had to empty themselves of self sufficiency in order to obtain EVERYTHING THAT MATTERED - from God. What an incredible gift this is - being known by God, chosen by God, freed from the curse and hope that, in faith, overcomes any terrible thing life can throw at us. We have a destiny that is beyond our wildest dreams.

I listened because I always wondered about that passage of Scripture… interestingly though, the journey you outlined has been my own journey also and I’ve finally learned that faith in God is not the same as trusting Him. I’ve been slow to learn and I’m so thankful for His patience and mercy while I insist on learning the hard way… The LORD is so amazing. So very thankful for all that He is and all that He does for us all through Christ Jesus our Lord. 🥹

Thank you, very good indeed. Now I have got it, and it is just what my life is centred on, nowadays : not relying on my own strength but holding up on God in trust, not “ leaning on my own understanding” but waiting on his Spirit to clarify things for me, - and it sounds so simple, “‘let go …let God” - but then the ego muscles in : “I can do it! “..and I’m literally stumped again…and again …
    …Your will be done..

Welcome back, Chris. Truly this a Master - piece study. And it is so relevant for such a time as this. We are on the very border of the Promised Land ourselves and as the Feast of Trumpets is being celebrated October 2, we will one day hear the sound of trumpets and voices mentioned in the 7th Trumpet in Revelation 11. May God help us to trust God to give us the victory over our flesh to be ready for the Day of Atonement as Christ fulfills His priestly ministry. Thank you brother for such a good Word. Rebecca felt her twins Esau and Jacob ‘STRUGGLING WITH EACHOTHER IN THE WOMB’! So wrestling is a key throughout Jacob’s ( Heel grabber’s!) life!

  • @dhat1607
    @dhat1607 3 месяца назад +2

Hmmm, dunno. Hip here is likely understated Hebrew idiom for loins. Jacob has always been a wheeler and dealer even with God - see when he left the promised land he bargained with God at Bethel. God is teaching him a lesson here at the Jabok river - by essentially winning the wrestling match by a strike where it matters most. Essentially by fighting dirty - as Jacob has always done before. He is getting a taste of his own medicine here. The next dealing we see of Jacob is completely different - a changed man indeed. Agree with lots of what you said but I think the text is showing of God transforms him in reference to his past. Peace.

Reviewing the story of this family and Jacob’s children too; they seem to be the most dysfunctional family ever. Yet, God chooses them, of all the family’s, to be His ambassadors (Judah and Levi) to bless all nations/people in the world. Both interesting and amazing how God works. Certainly doesn’t sync with my logic and shocks me so many times with God’s revelation of plan and how he brings mankind into compliance with His plan.
I love how Joseph tells his sorry and worthless brothers (including Judah), how they shouldn’t be angry or grieved with themselves because they sold him. Because God sent me before you to preserve life (what forgiveness). Then he reconfirms this later with more clarity; “it wasn’t you who sent me here, but God, and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Later Jacob specifically nails all these sons; with terms like; “uncontrolled as water”, “their swords are implements of violence”, “don’t let my soul enter into their counsel”, “self willed and cruel”, “a ravenous wolf”, “a devourer”. Yet, selected to be the 12 tribes of Israel. Judah and Levi both come from Leah’s womb, the unloved wife who is buried with Jacob while the loved wife, dies prematurely and is buried alone.
What a God, His plan certainly doesn’t follow a fairy tale path or great family but they fulfill His plan just like he wanted. Oh Lord, allow me to see and hear You even though my mind’s logic doesn’t sync with Your plan. Give me a heart to trust You and acknowledge how warped and incapable I am of understanding You. Your plans for my life and my family’s, are good. Stop leaning on my own understanding!

I believe the reason The Father touched Jacobs hip was to affect the way he walked. Notice Jacob limped after this. Jacob was walking in the way of man, he was a deceiver, but after he finally surrendered to The Father, he walked diferently, he walking rightly in the way of the Lord. This is an example of The Father using the physical, that which we know, to reveal the spiritual, that which we don't know or understand.

Jacob wrestled with an angel. Jacob knew he made many mistakes. He wanted the angel to bless him so much he held on with all his might.

Could it also be a foreshadowing of how Israel, as a nation, continues throughout their history to wrestle with God?

Yes, the story of Jacob is the story of his descendants. Same with Abraham, for example, as the many parallels to the experience of Israel demonstrate.

Why? 1) Because God wanted to; 2) To play with Jacob ("and for Thy pleasure they are and were created."); 3) to give Jacob a real, upclose personal encounter with Him.

I haven't watched your videos before, but allow me to interject some further insight I had about this passage many years ago - and it is indeed one of the most misunderstood in all of scripture: The 'wrestling' here is verbal, not physical. This situation was similar to Moses stepping in to save the children of Israel from annhililating wrath. In both cases, there was a detriment to Jacob and Moses. Moses eventually allowed Israel to provoke him at the Rock of Meribah, which disallowed him from entering the promised land. Jacob was "wrestling" with Messiah about Esau's outcome. Messiah wanted to remove Esau the same way He wanted to remove the stiffnecked Israelites. But Moses loved the people, just as Jacob loved his brother, and in Jacob's case - his hip was dislocated. Messiah was trying to explain to Jacob how Esau's people would vex Israel. This is what Messiah wasn't prevailing in - convincing Jacob that His plan is better (just as He does with us all). Messiah then dislodged Jacob's hip, as a testament to how Esau will keep Israel from walking uprightly. Plus, the loin/groin/hip area is what was touched when initiating a covenant with someone. Messiah then changed his name from Jacob (heel, supplanter, deceiver) to Israel (the upright of ELohim). When Jacob saw the sun rising, he wanted to rejoin his family, and it was Messiah Who told him that He wouldn't let Him go until He kneeled (hebrew word meaning 'bless') before Him, and Jacob asked His name, but Messiah retorted, 'why do you want to know My name [when you aren't even doing what I say]?' I hope this helps

What an interesting interpretation! -- and one I've never heard before. Intriguing. I always wondered how a mere mortal could prevail against a supernatural being in a physical wrestling match

    • @auh2o148

@carolsmith9120 Exactly! Plus, there's other ridiculous things in the English translation that no one ever addresses: Jacob is supposed to be holding Messiah so that He can't escape?! And even though He can't escape, He's strong enough to reach around and dislocated Jacob's hip?! Furthermore, Jacob is holding Him and won't let Him go (with the excruciating pain from the dislodged hip, no less) until He blesses him - like he just caught a leprechaun and is granted a wish?! Then there's the little issue with Messiah having to leave because the sun's coming up - again, like He's a leprechaun or a vampire?! I can't believe that people just accept this stuff at face value🤔because what I just wrote is where that interpretation leads to.

Jacob is not the "deceiver" - he is the supplanter. Truth will overcome the lie in the end. Jacob did not get "a new identity", as God chips away the falsehood, the reality emerges.

I think you're suggesting that Jacob's wrestle with the Lord was more on a spiritual nature than a physical encounter, as one might wrestle in fervent prayer? I think I agree that it might have started that way, but (according to the Bible) turned physical.
Perhaps while Jacob was fervently praying, the Lord suddenly appeared in the flesh, choosing to meet Jacob on Jacob's terms. Instead of shying away, Jacob laid hold of the Lord and the two began to wrestle.
In the end the Omnipotent Lord ends the struggle, leaving Jacob limbing for the rest of his life.
    What's the point?
Jacob was blessed beyond his wildest imagination, while the Lord foreshadowed His willingness to subject Himself to a mortal life, suffer, die and in the end, achieve the victory.
The Lord was willing to wrestle with Jacob, just as He would wrestle with all of humanity in His mortal life.
Of course Jacob was unaware of this, only that he had not only seen the "unseeable" God, but that he'd actually wrestled with Him and been blessed.
To emphasize the spiritual nature of the story is good, but not to discount or dismiss the physical side, since that's what makes the biblical story unique.

God never wrestles with anyone. Those who believe that God did so with Jacob and that Jacob won need help. Not of a literary kind.
That was an angel who had taken a human form. It states this clearly.
Jesus pointed out that God is a SPIRIT (John 4:24).
Wrestling with a spirit is far more than impossible.

Beautiful and interesting interpretation. So, many layers, as you pointed out. Jacob's name changed to Israel. Even now, Israel is trying to do things in their own strength and according to man's understanding. They focus on "doing" in order to bring about aspects of prophecy. As if the Most High needs their help or cooperation. Many of us get into this mindset. The God of Heaven is sovereign! He declares the end from the beginning. Therefore, everything is pre- ordained, predestined. He said, I tell you these things, so that you will know, who He is. Until all acknowledge him, especially Israel they shall not see him for who he truly is. Jacob's name means usurper-- as well as deceiver. He and his mother deceived his father. Many today, think they are deceiving The Father. Revelation states there are those who say they are Jews (Israel) and are not...they are of the synagogue of Satan. Praise be to our Lord and Savior, Yah.
