Lyrics:
The rain rotted house on the dead end of Baytree
old bitter lady
Sits caddy corner to the aftershock from the quarry
She says “America’s a spoiled child
that’s ignorant of grief”
but then she gives out full sizes candy bars on Halloween
We had to add it to the tab
to die we’d have to settle up
but we just go until we can’t
or burn it down to feel the heat
The Kletz brothers parents fight in the yard in their underwear
Bobby and Jimmy sit in the baby pool with lice in their hair
They have scoliosis from constant slumps in misery
Flat parts on their crew cuts from layin their heads on their knees
We had to add it to the tab
to die we’d have to settle up
but we just go until we can’t
or burn it down to feel the heat
Georgie set fire to acres of cotton settin of model rockets
The kid from the Jewish family got the preachers kid pregnant
but they sent her of and we never heard too much more about it
The sweet talk never lasts and you learn to go on without it
We had to add it to the tab
to die we’d have to settle up
but we just go until we can’t
or burn it down to feel the heat
Somebody called the cops on Mandy and her boyfriend
When they busted in they found that her house was a front for a mob thing
Pulled guns and cocaine from the drywall wrapped in newspaper
We gathered in the tall grass and watched unblinking as they cuffed em and hauled em away
We had to add it to the tab
to die we’d have to settle up
but we just go until we can’t
or burn it down to feel the heat
when we give up we go
to sleep

Wednesday - Quarry (Official Video)
#Wednesday #Quarry #RatSawGod
I can't stop listening to this song. It has the storytelling of a folk song, but it sounds grungey and country. Love discovering new bands.
I hear some Waterloo Sunset in here and I love it :)
(I heard that too...that's a plain ripoff, unfortunately)
@@essemmetv People don't worry about outright covers. What bothers people so much about a song that sounds a bit like something else in places but does something very different with the sound overall?
@@essemmetv cry about it
Same.
I think those licks are from a folk tune that the Kinks used for Waterloo.
So no copyright infringement worries for Wednesday.
Sounds like they copied and pasted the verse melody. Even to the point of starting a line with two names a la Teri and Julie…
I love these types of bands like Wednesday, Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, Waxahatchee, etc., who sound a lot like 90s artists like Liz Phair, Cat Power, The Sundays, Pavement, Sebadoh, Lemonheads, The Flaming Lips, Tripping Daisy, Bikini Kill, Le Tigre and The Breeders.
I highly recommend Snarls too (if you have not heard of them) Walk In The Woods, Better Off, Twenty - all great songs by them!
@@Matt-zj1pm Thank you, I'm going for it.
"They have scoliosis from constant slumps in misery" Pure poetry
"Dirty old river, must you keep rollin'". Speaking of which, sadly I won't see them in London, as they've already sold out. I love Wednesday.
Yeah I heard that too!
Aha yepppp exactly my thought too!
Ha, that did sound rather familiar! Good catch.
"Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, flowing into the night"
"People so busy make me feel dizzy, taxi lights shine so bright"
I listened to the whole album carefully, and I think they save their best tracks to the end of the album. Greetings from Turkey:)
Oh man!
I feel like I'm 22 again discovering really cool music in the 90s!
Love it
exactly what i was thinking
inspired in part by The Sundays, makes sense
I grew up on quarry road, snuck out to the abandoned quarry through the abandoned railroad track trail through the woods to smoke weed and party with my friends. This hit home!
Undeniable album of the year, so fucking killer
This is goddamn amazing. Guitar driven rock with perfect lyrics.
The sly look Karly gives right after saying "mob thing" at 2:55 - like she's spilling some juicy goss - is SO compelling
Can't wait to see you live again, this time at a much larger venue! So glad Wednesday is getting the recognition they deserve!
Song reminds me of a saying on my coffee mug "just another shitty day in paradise". Love this song.
Opening sounds like a Pavement song. Love love it
This song reminds me of waterloo sunset by the kinks, but I mean that in the biggest complimentary way possible.
I can't put into words how much I love this band and this fucking album. Thanks guys!
This song is great. It does do some different and unique things, but you honestly can't deny the plain fact that when it comes to the verse melody specifically, it's a pretty unapologetic and blatant lift of "Waterloo Sunset". I don't mind it - the melody is wonderful and classic. But also good to acknowledge where it came from.
I agree completely that this sounds like Kinks/Waterloo Sunset. What I wonder is whether it's a lift, or an uncanny case of reinventing the wheel. Is it possible that this young lady never even heard the Kinks song but came up with the melody on her own - especially because it's based on a very common three-chord (1-5-4) progression)? I really don't know, just wondering... Either way, it is one of the best melodies I have ever heard.
Super cool that they list The Swirlies as an influence.
i love 6 songs on this album. shoegaze makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. something soothing about the droning guitars.
Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Wednesday ❤❤
I love all of them.
@@youthofyesterdayrecords the only reason im not in love with everything is b/c i dont like country/western music.
@@miked4309 too bad because there is some great, weird country out there. When I hear Wednesday's slightly bent country songs, with the beautiful steel guitar, I can tell they truly love the genre.
A present of Jonny Corndawg. Country genius.

@@bonkyb8587 i like rockabilly and psychobilly. i love the supersuckers. theyve got a southern rock kinda thing.
Otis Gibbs turned me on to your band, and you're great. Now I just realized you're from Asheville, where Im moving soon. Can't wait to discover a new local scene where I have no preconceived notions from everybody's past bands!!!
The seamless shift from Verses to the Chorus without a bridge. I haven't heard that in so long. This song is amazing....I could say a lot more But I think that somes it up. Awesome fucking song.
I love music so much and as a tribal from India who grew up with country rock and then grunge/indie rock in my teens, this is heaven
Wow. You guys have such an epic sound. This is so nice, man.
90s af - dig the tune and whatever guitar the dude on the left is playing
Neat. 90s alt rock is in vogue again.
Great song! Is that MJ Lenderman in the video?
I listened to this song for my english class, im now realizing how tapped in my english teacher was
Waterloo Sunset but different chorus and lyrics. Great sound!
Not only did I find this gem, but I found out MJ Lenderman is in the band. Epic!
Haha. About 8 months ago I did same two step. Found MJ first and then Wednesday (whom I adore) was second.
@@glc0stanza me too - saw MJ open for Plains (Jess Williamson & Katie Crutchfield) I had the last Wednesday record Twin Plagues, but didn't make the connection until I saw MJ live
small town feel-the uhaul is cool-wednesday band has many good songs-cool sound
song of the year (probably) IMO
the lyrics of this song are NUTS live by the quarry and feel aftershocks all the time and there is an old lady that lived around the corner that gave out full size candy bars on halloween...
one of my favs from the album frl
I cannot get this song out of my head.
This is so easily my favorite song in the album, but it's all fantastic. Hope you go far!
Really loving this band
It's about fucking time indie rock hit Gummo country. Peace, love and empathy from Appalachia.
No cat is safe
@gas-huffer I have some bad news for you buddy
Amazing song amazing video amazing band
Pleeeease come to Charleston, SC. The Pour House would be a great venue for you guys. I can promise you guys will have a great time.
this is actually pretty nice!
Sick music video! Righteous progression throughout!
Banging track! Feels like the rural/smalltown counterpart to that Lou Reed track "Romeo Had Juliet". Y'all rock
The Hell is all this styled like eras we grew up in ?
Heard this bang bang banger on KCPR yesterday driving up 101 in the late Sunday afternoon... college radio lives!
The only thing I dislike about this video is I can only like it once.
Hear that waterloo sunset but sounds so good. First song ive heard ill listen to yalls other songs now . Excited!
Excited to see Wednesday in DC!
I get Pavement feels from this. That is not a common thing. Great job
Yep, this is it. Totally reminds me of Stephen Malkmus.
there melodies are so infectious!! her voice just bends
and forums to what ever she wants to say! love that about these songs!
You, sir, are a poet. Well said.
I love the 90s 2000s Indy alt stuff . I was just listening to bully now this feels similar
Thank you for being my post Helene comfort
The vibe of the track is very gorgeous!🤙🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song makes me cry a lot 😢
Listening 2 Wednesday on a Tuesday high as an airplane ✈️ 🌞 ☁️ 🌂 ⛱️ 😶🌫️
Good golly i'm excited for this puppy to drop!!
My favourite track off the album is What's So Funny? It's amazing to hear such a strong track that wasn't even one of the singles.
I Love this song! ❤❤❤
Phenomenal. Love you guys. Can't wait to see you at Kilby & in Denver!
Can't wait to see you at Nelsonville!
Wholesome like corn. ♥
But much more digestible
Heard this on the radio and had to look it up.
Great song!!
this is so good
Great album. Loving it.
Awesome video and song
Definitely the album of the year so far for me. Just astoishingly good from start to finish, and I hear more in it every time I listen. Like others have said I think their sound hits like “country shoegaze,” but Karly Hartzman is like if a singer-songwriter on the level of Courtney Barnett fronted such a band, which is just an unreasonable, almost scary amount of awesomeness. Just incredible songwriting, Southern Gothic storytelling, and intensity. Is this how exciting it was when Springsteen was up and coming?
Waterloo Sunset!
A surprisingly refreshing timewarp back to the mid to late 90's. This sound is so rarely pulled off anymore, without just seeming cheap. This feels genuine and cathartic, like it did then👏 Amazing voice and singing style!
Waterloo Sunset for these times
Pretty much
Saw them last night. Great show . Imagine Wilco fronted by Lucinda Williams
Such a pleasant 🎵
Amazing song, wow!
Brilliant
Honor and Respect 🪶
Greetings from Saint Augustine Florida
I would love to see live showing. This band makes good music
they are incredible live
Made it on the radio in Bayfield WI
WOOOOOOOOOO
Happy place in the back of a Saab... mine too!
Waterloo Sunset :)
Congratulate to advance to 100 million views
We are among the first :)
This is one of the most earnest things I've heard in some time. Great band. MJ Lenderman is special.
RUclips algorithm brought me here, great song!
(P.S. what is the guitar-looking thing on that dude's lap? is it a slide guitar or something different? i'm curious lol)
It’s a lap steel guitar
@@user-un6qm2lq3t Interesting, not heard of one of them before and they look cool, thanks!
Check out Richmond Fontaine.
What do you get if you cross The Kinks with The Smashing Pumpkins? This band! Great sound, great track.
this is awesome
Most here are to young to get this but it's like the early days of music videos on MTV, $20 budget and use whatever you could.
Thank you!
please come to Canada :)
Tomorrow morning and I will listen to the music that speaks to me as a friend can only do like Wednesday can ❤
Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Wednesday ❤❤
I love her voice. The way she sings reminds me of a female Jay Farrar
