- A nice lady from the hotel gave me a ride to a train station. She also talked with a staff at the station to make sure I will get to the right train. After a little while the train has arrived. Once I found by bed in the train I had a little tour and fall asleep. In the morning I woke up and felt so sleepy. I went to do a tour in the toilet and also found a place where I washed my face. As I came back to my bed, the staff from the train was already making the beds to the seats. What a great invention, from beds to seats on the train.
When I got off train, the first thing I wanted was to find a coffee so I could wake up properly. After a little while I found a place where I bought coffee and delicious banana rice cake.
I wanted to get to Surat Thani town. I decided to take a local bus, that took me close enough from where I had another nice walk to find my hotel. On the way to hotel I kind of lost, but found other hotels. The prices where a bit too high so I did not stay there. The last hotel I checked also gave me directions to my original hotel. When I arrived to my hotel, the staff met me and told me the price, which was 250 baht for the fan room and 100 baht deposit for the lock. I accepted the offer and only then realized that I only have 200 baht with me. I said to the staff that I will go to the center to exchange some money.
Firstly I went to a shopping mall near by, and was shocked with the exchange rate they had there. It was same as in airport. I decided to go in the town center to look for the better place with better exchange rates.
The journey to exchange money started. First I was walking and hoping to find some places on the way, checked some banks but they did not exchange, because I only had Vietnamese Dongs, probably USD be fine, but I had none USD. After a little while I stopped a little van, local transport, and I thought the driver understood where I wanted to go. But after he let all the people go, he drove in the wrong direction. I asked him to stop, payed the money and got off. In my surprise he was driving to the direction that I needed, not sure why he took that off-road where I had to get off. Another long walk to the main street. On the main street I was looking for more places to exchange money. No luck again. No one wanted to exchange Vietnamese Dongs. I stopped another little van. They took me to big shopping center, where I was expecting to find a place to exchange money. The driver also overcharge me, for a 5 minute ride, he took 40 baht. Previously, the driver that took me to the wrong place took just 50 baht, but that was almost half an hour ride with some stops. Guess what, no luck in there. Then I had another walk, no luck in finding exchange shop. I even went to a biggest Bangkok bank branch in this town, but they did not want to change the money from Vietnam.
Finally I decided to go back to the shopping mall near the hotel and have money exchanged there with really bad exchange rate.
My advice: If you ever come to Surat Thani, make sure you have some cash, otherwise you might face the same problem like me.

Omg when I watch this clip it reminds me of myself when I moved to another province😂 I got into the wrong car and they took me to a different place where I was going haha. I have no idea where he will send me. That made me laugh at myself but it was also a lot of fun and a life experience.
That was real good adventure, I think I should learn a bit more Thai language. But still, more fun this way 😁 At the end all worked out quite good. I am happy to remind you some good memories 😊

I am in Surat Thani. I want to tell you that You should not ride a tuk tuk because there is a lot of cheating. The best way to travel here is grab car and it is very difficult to exchange money with banks. You should exchange at Koh Samui, it's the same rate as Bangkok.
Thank you for letting me know. I thought similar, one tuktuk charged me around 50 baht for about 30min ride, and other one 40 baht for 5 min ride 😅. I will keep this in mind. Thank you again 🙏
@@MrABroadThat's why I haven't ridden a tuk tuk in over 10 years. The only people who are still sitting are those who have no choice. I recommend you to find a hotel in the middle of Surat Thani city. You can stroll through the daily night market and the Saturday night walking street. And there is also an old pier with boats where you can sleep on trips to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao. May you enjoy your trip. Thailand welcomes you.
@@narmevo I only stayed in Surat Thani one day, I didn’t want to exchange too much money there because I will loose quite a bit by exchanging with the rate in Surat Thani. Next time I will come to Surat Thani I will be more prepared and hopefully I can enjoy the city more 😁

@@fc-nb8vu คุณคิดว่า 40 บาทเป็นราคาปกติสำหรับการนั่งรถ 5 นาทีหรือไม่? รถตุ๊กตุ๊กคันอื่นที่ฉันมี ตอนแรกก็มีคน แต่ทุกคนลงแล้วเหลือแค่ฉันเท่านั้น คนขับก็ขับตุ๊กตุ๊กต่อไปอีกประมาณ 10 หรือ 12 นาที จนฉันขอให้หยุด รวมการเดินทางประมาณ 24 นาที เสียเงินเพียง 50 บาท
ไปเที่ยว เกาะสมุย สุราษฎรธานี ที่เที่ยวเยอะ

I think Kanchana Resort is opposite Lotus Shopping Mall 🙂 there is Bank for change
I have been in Lotus Shopping mall, I found two banks in there, but the exchange rate so low, same like in airport. In the city center no exchange shops and no one in banks change the money that I had. At the end I had to go back to Lotus Shopping mall 😊

That is very true. If anything, I don’t usually even want the small change back, but ask the vendor if she could pls keep it, for her trouble of being in the street all day long, struggling to make a piddly living. If we can afford it, please don’t wait for the little change back. You never know when you have made someone’s day by such an innocuous gesture of goodwill. However, please do it politely, respectfully, and with appreciation.

You should exchange enough money the first time. In Thailand it is very difficult to find a place to exchange money. And the next time you exchange money, the exchange rate is very bad.
I guess I should do some research before I go to different city. Other cities were just fine, I found exchange shops easily. Thank you for letting me know

I realized that there are many, very beautiful places in Thailand, but I’m wondering, just on a general, overall level of preference, if VN is bit more easier to get around, with more available stalls of street foods and beverages, in general? Hi, I think both countries are interesting to travel. Same about food and getting around. It was my first time in Thailand and I had no problem finding food or transport to get around. It’s quite easy to get around I would say. In bigger cities food is everywhere, like in Vietnam. People are also friendly in Both countries.

A small taxi (truck) charged you 40 baht because you fully hired him , you did not share with other passengers.
I think those man and woman at front are spouse went around for their private purpose , Not on shuttle duty.
And be noted that price of private transportation hiring in up-country are mostly more expensive than Bangkok. You should study more for taking bus or other shared vehicle.
Another issue is you should carry big currencies to exchange aboard.

Not too sure when, hopefully next year. There so many places that I want to visit mate.
I apologize to the Thai people for not being able to speak English well. This may be because Thailand has never been colonized by Western nations.
That is no problem, I think foreigners like me should learn more Thai language, to make easier for Thai people to communicate. 😊🇹🇭❤️💯
