Jake… watching what you put together with the Floyd, then the paint, you are inspiring. Well done! We’re all learning, and you sharing this is helping everyone who has an interest.
Like you said it’s not a relic it’s more of a tribute thang, you made it your own and those aren’t mistakes those perfect imperfections keep ‘em comin man
Dude you NAILED IT! Great paint job, you should be proud! The stripper guitars are really cool. I like it a lot I did a blue and yellow version with the candy blue Kramer
As a professional painter I can offer you this advice, rust oleum and pretty much every spray paint needs several things to go on well, in this case the black didn’t do well over the white and cracked because it didn’t have enough grip or ‘key’ to stick to, the white being new and not sanded was too glossy to stick, the other problem with the black, was applied too heavy in one go, and the other issue is spray paint needs a long time to cure ( completely dry ) it releases gases as it cures, it may be touch dry but can take months to cure, sun helps with the process often. If you’re going to do this kind of painting make sure, either each spray pack is from the same company or at the very least each spray pack is suitable to go over each other because there are so many different types of spray paints these days and a lot of them don’t mix, you may end up with base coats that will never dry under your clear. Rust oleum is really good for guitars
first vid i saw of yours was 2 minutes ago n it was the white n black n i clicked on this without knowing it was u also!! the baretta special is the next guitar im gonna buy and probably my favourite of eddies guitars and seeing how ur black and white one turned out im deffs dropping a like and sub for u brotha!!! thanks for the knowledge
Dude thanks man !!! Means a lot, the Barettas are amazing guitars bro I love ‘em! I’m thinking of doin the Jackson evh FrankenV they made for Scott lan. Seems like a a cool project to do lol
Thanks for the video man. I have been toying with the idea of getting one of these Specials, and your Frankenstrat vid sold me. Next time you need wood filler make your own. It is best if you can get sawdust from your piece, but for a solid color like this, just mix some wood glue with the sawdust, and fill away. If you are staining, you can add some to the filler, and it will match a lot better. Play loud!
Thank you man! Yeah it’s funny iv done that in the past with saw dust and wood glue but I have a problem of trying new things and taking the risk of hoping it works 😂 but your right the best results is with just making it and it’s cheaper, practically free if you have a gallon of wood glue lol but yes this guitars the best one iv made by far. It’s well built and I just had to paint it aside from routing for a Floyd lol. But I’m glad I was able to help you man.
Thank you so much brother! I love Doing the EVH Videos and I’m working on The Shark Guitar but it’s a lot more complicated then I thought lol but I’m hoping to get done with it a few weeks, thank you for watching man!
Awesome! Jake I think the fact that this guitar is not perfect makes it..... perfect! If you know what I mean. I agree with you - all the little things here and there make it like the way Edward was doing his early guitars, with all sorts of weird little imperfections and special nuances. And your 5150 is Ace! Love it, Bro. I've done a few Frankies, and now I want to do a 5150!
Thank man!!! Seriously I appreciate the awesome feed back brother really helps me motivate myself for more videos like these because replicating Eddie’s guitars can be intimidating because iv seen all those hardcore fans and I’m just a kid trying to make my one 😂 but yes I agree with the small imperfections it makes it unique to yourself plus that’s how Eddie did his he wasn’t trying to make a profit out of with his Frankie he was just trying to be different, so I completely agree man.
@@jakethefate Awesome, Brother!! My advice... Keep doing you! And I think it is ultra cool that all of us can still enjoy the magic, and all the creations that Edward left us. I love what you are doing! Can't wait to see more of what you come up - the Van Halen stuff is my favorite. I grew up with Ed, Al and the crew... and I miss knowing Edward is here. Yes - We are hard core fans for sure - us Van Halen Freaks!! But seeing your spin. Your take. Your magic.... hey man.... we share that. All of us. So awesome! It's a bond.
Man! You did an INCREDIBLE/AWESOME JOB!!!!!! The 5150 guitar is my favorite EVH guitar and I want to make it, but on a telecaster. Awesome job dude!!!!! Also, what was that thing you put under the pickup that acts as a pickup ring?
Badass dude, don't trip on the orange peal and splatters the OG 5150 had runs everywhere, the black stripes were painted freehand as an afterthought they used a piece of cardboard to block the overspray they didn't even tape it down. Yours is actually cleaner than the original plus it's supposed to be different that's the whole point of Ed's guitars! Great job!
Yes your ganna need to sand the finish first. I’m posting a new video Tuesday or Wednesday on a new EVH paint job and I speak about that if you have a guitar with base you need, for example if you have a white guitar you do what you said sand the finish off, roll your tape on, paint yiur first layer of red, then add your black stripes, add your clear at the end it’ll work fine
I think Eddie himself encountered some of the same issues with the paint, and I think he just went with it, he used spray cans of Schwinn bicycle paint on his original Frankenstein guitars.
That's cool dude! I have two of these, a black one and a purple one.. Been thinking about doing this to the black one (Bumble Bee Style) This just may have put me over the edge to actually do it! LOL. Be proud, I love it!
I’m glad I helped my friend! I get nervous making these EVH build because It’s not my era but I love Van Halen all kind of rock and metal but Eddie aside from being an amazing guitar player is the king of taking risk and doing modifications lol
Question for the build: If I had the white Kramer Baretta Special, would I have to still sand it down, or could I skip to striping? Love the build btwww!
I’d say if you have the white one scuff it down lay your tape for the red paint, you’ll have a whole day advantage of not waiting for the white paint to dry lol so that’s a plus, these builds can make you impatient because you want to see the end results but Just take your time. And thank you man!! I appreciate the support dude
Came out nice. Eddie's guitars weren't perfect either, so don't get too hung up on it. He just cared more about them working rather than being pretty lol. You may or may not know this, but the "See Ya Later" and the "Rasta" are actually the same guitar. It started out as the "See Ya Later" (or the "Crop Circles" or the "Unchained" guitar since that's the song he mainly used it for live) before he sanded it down and repainted it into the "Rasta" after the Fair Warning tour. I didn't know if you knew since you named them off back to back. Can"t wait for the "See Ya Later". It's always been one of my favorites.
He addressed that, why are you being so weird? Eddie's black lines were way more untidy and it really doesn't matter. It's about the playing and the player.

That black and red stripe fade in the neck pocket looks dope, I know it's just overspray but that would look sick on a full guitar body!
💯💯💯😁😁😁 Looks great, it'll age nicely and look better with time
Oh yeah, I think it came out really well, the little mistakes add character 👍🏼
You did an amazing job on this!
I’m watching this while I make my breakfast! YAYYY
Dude you NAILED IT! Great paint job, you should be proud! The stripper guitars are really cool. I like it a lot
I did a blue and yellow version with the candy blue Kramer
Man...this is incredible. You're definitely inspiring me to take that first step toward modding.
glad i found u Jake.Cheers.
awesome content Jake thankyou so much Van Halen spirit is alive
I think black goes on first for the heavy stripes.
Dude you're awesome I love watching your videos

You did a great job man. Seen a lot of these and yours is the best result vs time/effort ratio! I'd be very happy with this.

Very fine job. I like it
I like it. Good job.

If you were to do this with the white beretta special would you be able to immediately paint it red or would you have to sand down the finish first?

looks great bro!!
Isn't the Kramer 84 more like the Eddie's 5150 than the Baretta?

How many layers did you do for each colour?
What did u use to shim the nut ?

Probably should have sanded down to the wood. When the spray paint starts to wear, and it will, the purple will show through.
i do like the purple paint too tho
Cool sweater bro
Corporate Kane 😳
The neck you need banana neck it longer everything cool dude
My advice is to vet the duncan custom. Not the jb or cc.
Custom is what vh1 is
🙌🎯
Seriously. Eddie Frankie was beat to shit so that paint doesn't matter. You did great I think.
👍🎸🤘🤘🤘
Nice to see you support coffeehouse crime…
I live off coffeehouse crime, Mr ballen and mystery archives! 💪🏼
No Rasta mon
The black lines look really bad..
