Note: You can't get VA pension payments and disability compensation at the same time. If you apply for and are eligible for both, we'll pay you whichever benefit is the greater amount.

What Andrea said. For a few years I was receiving a small VA pension. Because my rated service-connected disabilities were LOWER than the pension amount I received only the pension.
But a few years back VA rated another service-connected disability that made that payment larger than the pension, so the VBA (Veterans Benefit Administration) stopped the pension payment and continued paying only service-connected disability compensation.
Bonus Tip: IMO if a Veteran has service-connected disabilities that typically rate on the high end, or even better, the "holy grail" of ratings: 100% P & T, one should focus his efforts into getting disability compensation.
