70’s legends
His solos on Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark albums - Sublime
These are people that don’t copy but create
lucky for us that Quincy Jones and others called Mr. 335 to sit on some sessions. Not only is he a phenomenal guitar player, but a great man and human being!
Larry Carlton's guitar work with The Crusaders is phenomenal.
Here's a guy that can play the guitar superbly and has rubbed shoulders with all the greats yet is so humble and appreciative of everyone who has asked him to come along and play - what a lovely fellow.
Truly legendary. Not just Mr. 335 , he’s the Comeback Kid!
Always loved the way a 335 vibrates your chest when you play it. You can literally feel the notes
I had the pleasure of meeting Larry and doing work on some of his guitars when I worked at Valley Arts Guitar 1987-90. he is indeed truly a gentleman among musicians. Sitting across from him and watching him play Will always be a great memory for me.
I remember going up the stairs at Valley Arts to the guitar shop. Up there was Mike Mcguire, Bob, Larry Carlton and Dean Parks! I felt my guitar did not deserve to be worked on in their company!!!
Valley arts made an acoustic guitar for him. A signature model. Are there many around or were they just made for larry?
I love guys like this ; humble and in it for the music .
the moment i heared "point it up", i was sold,.....larry is the man...
One of the greatest guitar players period! My personal favorite was "Kid Charlemagne" solo. I also love your tune called "Nightcrawler." And of course we can't forget "The bubble Shuffle" man, there are many many more, "Anthem" from Renegade gentleman. And so many wonderful collaborations with great guitar player's. Larry Carlton u r a true legend and inspiration.... 🥂
My favorite too. For me no one better.

What about Jay Graydon, Amos Garrett, Dean Parks ?
He played guitar on the album "Clicks Modernos" by Charly Garcia. One of the albums that pioneered the sound of the 80s but more importantly stood the test of time as one of the greatest albums in Garcia's entire career.
Cool interview. Always loved Larry Carlton and pound for pound, it's hard to beat a 335. By the way...those quick glissing single note slides remind me a lot of the late, great, Clarence Gatemouth Brown.
Love his work on The Royal Scam. So melodic and harmonically aware.
He played with the Crusaders!!! 🔥🔥🔥
A freaking living legend.
That was a real treat. Thanks!
Indeed one of the greats !!
This kid could really go places if he sticks with it.
Mister Tee Haha....yes if he works hard 😂
lol
With the pandemic and working from home I was able to listen to a lot of Joni Mitchell. I heard the popular Help Me, Free Man, Chelsea Morning, Yellow Taxi from back when I was 12/13 years old but lately I have listened to Blue and Hejira in particular. Incredible albums. Carlton is just amazing. Amelia... what a song. And on and on....
LEGENDARY!!!😮😮😮👏👏👏👏👏🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎶
IF I had to pick ONE player as my fav---I think LC is it. Good gawd---what talent
My fave 335 is my 2001 Ibanez JSM 100.....Love it very much....
Larry just seems such a sweet guy, and what a player and career! The Lord probably has an amazing 335 waiting for him way down the road when the time comes...hopefully he'll have plenty of time to give a fellow player a few tips then. : )
Saw him in Boston in the 80s - He got annoyed with the quiet crowd because they weren't "getting into it" - The man can play anything and it's always great.
Larry was great as usual but man, how beautiful was that cherry red 335? Whew!!
man, dig those adult chords. He is not for nothing 'the cat'
This man should be a total inspiration to every guitar player. The intro to Steely Dan dont take me alive is great. The other thing I heard is that he got shot. Most underrated guitar legends no one has ever heard of, kids today dont care about good music anyway. My take!!
Legendary
Mr “Hill Street Blues”.
Always loved the stuff Larry did with the Crusaders.
***Great to see legends at Norm's Rare Guitars. Norm, you've got to have Matteo Mancuso next. Matteo's a beast on guitar. No picks required, is all I can say.***
Hi Norm and all. Why not invite/feature Lee Ritenour?
Larry's work on David Gates albums is his best work in my opinion. The solos on Do You Believe Hes Coming are amazing.
“Way above my pay-grade”
Love it
335 ...... 3 + 3 + 5 = 11. Thus making the 335 an 11 out of 10!
Larry is the GOAT.
Amazing, there are 335 likes
Yea!!!!!
If you had to put your name down every time you did a "Thumbs down", the thumbs downers would be crucified. I think, Who the hell would put a thumbs down on one of the great guitarists we have ????? pretty shame full mate, tell us your name and why did you do it.
It's ok, just obvious that they haven't been to first base with guitar.
Great- but too bad the shop amp reverb is stuck on 11....
When is there going to be a meeting of Larry and Tim Pierce?
Finesse eguals Larry Carlton's Playing Style !
''An inspiration to many players". Yep, traded my Aria CS250 i'd bought new for a black set neck Memphis 335 in '83, all because of LC. Tried, never got far. AS73, Fine for everything, but never attempted 'Mr 335' again :)
I always wondered how Steve Howe could play an ES-175 at such a high volume and not get feedback.
because he is Steve Howe
I’m feeling a Chuck Norris vibe with this comment!
Interesting enough, Larry's first session guitar was a Gibson 175. It was used on his first album "With A Little Help From My Friends", and he played it in many clubs, and even The Forum in 1972 with a group called "Cymbal and Clinger"11
What? No mention of Larry's signature line of guitars. Maybe not happening?
Sire Guitars has launched a line of Larry Carlton guitars! There are 3 electrics and a new acoustic based on his Valley Arts "Smiles and Smiles" guitar!
335 is a Swiss knife
I pick the 335 because the trapeze bridge on the 330 sucks.
I didn’t c him shop he’s just stuck to the same old bag for himself
Larry spawned a generation of guitar players in the days when 500 buckS bought you a Kalamazoo Gibson.
Mr 335
If anyone really knows and plays guitar, you know how difficult it is to play that little ditty at the end.
When you've got the money to but all the guitars in the world and still use a video camera from the sixties. LOL
Read what you just posted and ask yourself if it makes sense
Pick up a guitar Norm.....Plug it in and pick away!
Video quality is terrible.
