Thank you for including some history about each of the songs in Play Dead! Helps keep to the spirit of the music.
You got it, homie
@@TobyDavvy did you have both pickups coil split or just one? Neck or bridge?
How could anyone dislike this man’s videos?
so i'm 40, have been playing guitar for nearly 30 years, and have always have always resisted lessons, and could never get into youtube instructional videos. well, until i discovered this channel. i've learned so much, and i'm playing more now than i did during the whole pandemic so far. huge thanks for all the work and effort you put into these!
This means a lot. This is part of why we do what we do.
The man, the myth, the legendary Toby! I've learned how to play more Dead tunes from you in 6 months than from 10+ years of learning from the other guys. Always appreciate your lessons!
Haha. Thanks for the love, homie. I really appreciate it. But my name is Davvy. Toby is the one with the beard. I’m the one with the dreads.
@@TobyDavvy hahah my bad, I knew that 🙈 you guys are both great!
Davvy you son of a...been waiting for this one.
Oh, I know
I watch the commercials all the way through on Davvy’s videos.
And that’s why you kick ass
Best technical exposition of a Dead song I have ever seen.
Very "grateful"!
I love this format. Just incredibly entertaining.
I have to be honest at first I didn’t get you, the mannerisms, pictures of fish 🐠 etc etc. I stuck with it though and practiced what you taught and listened to what you said. Now I have to say, thank you so much for this and your other videos. I totally get it, you explain and demonstrate so clearly to idiots like me that even I can play this now! You are the man! love the humour and your teaching style, thank you again so much for what you’re doing for us 😊👍🏻
The best I have heard ever!!!! Been a Deadhead since 1992 . THANK YOU MAN!!!!!
Amazing channel. Thanks buddy. Long Live the Grateful Dead..
I have fun with these videos because Davvy is clearly having fun. Thank you for teaching us this music. Finally, I know the songs...🤘
Awesome man thanks, I just found the Grateful Dead maybe a month ago and I can’t believe how many songs are bangers
Wow! Full of knowledge and all the subtleties that most of us don’t hear immediately. 👍
Thanks for the kind words, Kev!
What an amazing song. Let me tell you what was special. Phil & Friends with Allison Krauss trading verses with Stu Allen on Morning dew. Then she followed it up with To Lay Me Down. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming,
YES!
Thanks man... you Rock like always... I play in a band with a few friends and we use your vids to get on the same page.. thanks again Bro keep em’ coming...
Fuck yes! That’s what’s up, Dan!
Thank you for this! Its our time to keep this music alive.
Damn straight
Great lesson, Davvy. I was always a little hesitant to plunge into this song, but after your vid, it is simple freakin glorious
Yeah, homie! Most of them are pretty simple in theory, it’s in practice and adding in fills and what not that end up making them sound more technical than they are
Thank you. . I've been playing this song for a while, but the rhythm version of the walk up was new to me.
Taint no thang, Jeff!
I love how he crops his upper body onto the close up of his guitar so it looks like he has a giant arms and guitar lol
late here. these are my faves I think. 74 & my fingers don't work so good but I like this set of vids ( China Cat etc etc ) best I've seen.
So much love man… that is morning dew!
Thanks for this one! Great lesson and commentary, as always.
Thanks, Tom!
I'll just say I love this channel, new subscriber
ahhh the walk up... finally I can tackle this one. Thank you!
You got this, John!
excellent really enjoyed the explanation good job. how about a little insite on I'm a king bee?
Holy Shit Davvy! You rock!
I KNEW YOU WOULD DO THIS ONE !!!! AWESOME
Hell yeah, breh!
I am learning a lot from you! Thank you!
Thanks for being part of the family!
my man talking bout fred neil! that record he did with vince martin that has morning dew, also has i know you rider! something tells me that vinyl was on a bookshel in 710 ashbury
Had to have been. I’m pretty sure that’s the version that Jerry heard.
I got to know Vince Martin in his later years. He ended up an Amway salesman in south Florida. He didn't have a lot of great things to say about the music business, but was a very nice and gentle soul. May he rest in peace
Thank you for this, just learned it for my camping trip coming up. It’s my tradition to play this on top of a mountain in the desert while the sunrises. Epic, right?
Epic for sure.
LOL
Even Devo recorded it.
Thing is in each verse the woman is asking the man in first two lines
The second two lines is his reply.
There should be more who record it as a duet.
I'm going to do just that in the coming months with a good friend of mine.
awesome. thank you.
Europe 72 is my favorite Morning Dew
fantastic, thx!!
That was great ! Thank you 🙏
Maybe I’ve been all around this world for next play dead?!? Especially the little beginning solo part?!
This was great! Thank you
Jeff Beck Kills it on the Truth album with Rod Stewart singin;)
great lesson! thanks for doing this Song!
Of course, homie!
Right On Davvy! Dead A-head !
Bro, lol dont take that the wrong way. What I was trying to say is I watched a few of your Tennessee Dead videos and I dont see you sing, but on your instructions video you do sing. All is good bro.
It’s 952 pm on a Thursday and that solo just stole my face
Weather report suite at some point. Please! Love the videos you have helped me figure out so much in a very short time...
That’s what I like to read! That’s what’s up. Yes, WRS is coming sometime this year.
Thank you. Can you please do Brokedown Palace?
Jeff Beck group did Morning Dew I think? I need to find that.
The '87 version of Dew from MSG still echos in my head. 🤯
Finally 🤩❗️
The Davvy abides
Great tutorials! I'm just curious, what kind of guitar are you using in this video?
Great mate
Thanks mang 🤣. Yeah the lp version is sweet ! That live one is too slow for me.
Hey Davvy we are thinking of throwing this into one of our sets. The walk-up changes from show to show - interesting harmonies - I think it's Bobby that changes things up, your thoughts? Other than that how much fun is this. I was thinking of doing a vid with solo ideas and sending it to guys like you, Stitch, Palmasano, etc. for comment on how to make it better, Bad idea? Peace buddy, thanks for everything! Birks
Awesome thanks man! You think you could do a Stella blue lesson sometime? Some icy licks straight to the heart strings
Yessir! Stella blue is coming soon!
Freakin awesome! Could you do a lesson on it must have been the roses?
Yessir! When I decide to do the acoustic series, that’ll be one of the first ones.
Thank you.
Thank YOU!
Hey man I’ve been trying to learn I second that emotion and am trying to go off a guys hand could you make a video on it it’s a classic jgb tune thanks brotha I appreciate you a bunch
too good
Great lesson! Any acoustic songs coming?
Yessir! Once we reach our goal of $5k a month on Patreon, I’ll be doing a series of acoustic Dead lessons.
Damn did Robert Plant dirty 😂
D mixo except you have to add a flat 3 to hit the F note so does it modulate between D mixo (G scale) and D dorian (C scale) when it goes from D-C-G chords to F-C-Em?
Yes. You got it.
Sweet solo and tone. Every time i jam on morning dew I end up playing a slower version of the St Stephen lick.
So... can we get a Play Dead for St Stephen? Please include tutorial on screaming like Bobby after the verse.
You got it!
Jeff Beck did a very good version, too.
I probably just missed this, but what chord are you starting with? Looks like a D.
Thanks! Nicely done. Right to the point- & love the humor. Nazareth does a great version of Morning Dew as well. Check it out.
Jeff beck and rod Stewart
Before that G in the intro, they climb into G from the F.
Not every time. There’s no specifically right way to do anything by the dead. But, thanks for the support.
@@TobyDavvy yep, every show was different.
Hey do you do lessons?
Yep. Shoot an email over to tobyanddavvy@gmail.com and we can talk about it.
Thanks for singlehandedly teaching me every dead song while I’ve been on this Grateful Dead kick! Was wondering if there is a place to watch your band on RUclips? It’d be cool to hear you play w the full band! Thanks again brotha !🤘🏻😎
Yessir, there are videos on the channel called “steal your Monday” and those are live streams with one of my dead tributes.
Fucking ayy right. Love these videos man. Thank you!!
YYYYYEEEESSS!!!
You the man, Tim!
The Europe ‘72 version is in my top 5 of best ever GD songs.
@@halfstep1973 it was 5/26/72 from Lyceum Theatre in London. I’ve seen Long Strange Trip, yes, chills every time. As a matter of fact, I’m going to listen to it right now!
Not sure how I just found you but I love your energy and positivity. Crazy how well you rolled with your phred arriving broken. I would’ve been such a bitch.
You gotta roll with it, bro. Nothings for certain, it could always go wrong. Luckily I have a luthier down the street from my house.
So have you done the monkey and the engineer yet
Not yet. That’s being saved for the acoustic series
Sugar shack!!! Texas baby

China Doll would be kool..
It’s a comin

What version of dew is this based on?
Sounds like '74. Check out the October shows from that year. e.g., 10/18/74.
