- In this video, I’ll show you how to build your own built in (or stand alone, if you prefer) DIY Closet System!
For dimensions and details, check out the FREE building plans here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/built...
And find the printable plans with cut list and plywood cut diagram here:

Now, I know the video shows this DIY closet system standing on its own-and that’s definitely a possibility. This piece can stand alone in a room.
But it was actually designed to fit into a nook in a friend’s house that just needed some extra storage space. The nook was 4 ft wide, 2 ft deep, and 8 ft tall. So I built this piece slightly smaller to give some wiggle room to avoid issues during installation.
The overall size here is 47" wide, 20" deep, and 7 ft tall.

This is a great video! I’m officially inspired! Thank youuuuuuu…..
Hey Shara, just wanted to thank you and to say that I’ve learnt a lot from you. I’m a father of boys here and started following you last year during our lockdown. After seeing your video with Steve R, I realised how stressful yet brave you are to put up with all the scrutiny that RUclips viewers can be sometimes. I love how simple your videos are as I find them all relatable given I’m just a simple DIYer. I hope you find a way to always keep it simple and love your attitude of how just enough is good enough. Will definitely be following how you did this piece as I’m hoping to build a similar shelving for the wife. Sending as much positivity your way all the way from the other side of the world here in New Zealand. Absolutely love your work. 👍🏼
Hi! Thanks so much for following along all the way from New Zealand! So cool to know people from all over! I really appreciate that and I’m so happy you enjoy the videos. It’s discouraging sometimes making videos for RUclips but the good outweighs the bad and the majority of viewers are the good ones 😊 I promise to always keep things simple and hope I can share a few helpful tips along the way. Thanks again so much for following. I truly appreciate it!
@@WoodshopDiaries Gosh and sorry for spelling your name wrong! 😄 Can I blame autocorrect for that one? Shara comes out as Sharma?? Edited the original comment just in case. Incidentally I don’t just watch your videos once, I replay them step by step as I build my own. 😄 Look forward to seeing more!
I'm a 53 yo woman without the knowledge and without the tools. You make me want to build. You are doing an awesome job.

Her approach to woodworking is simple, straightforward but effective.

Lazy
Alright! The rain boots are back and may I say that you look dashing in them, as you always do.
This is a visually appealing cabinet and a creative design.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
I was waiting for someone to notice the boots! 😂😂 I slipped these on one day it wasn’t so hot and forgot I did until I started editing. I ALMOST edited them out but decide to leave it and see if anyone noticed. I’m glad you did haha!
Thanks so much for following along! I always appreciate your kind words!
I was going to notice about the rain boots but you've been faster...! Those boots are kind of mascots, emblem of Shara's channel😁
Anyways great and nice looking build, as always.
Really cool project!
I mainly went to the comments section to see if anyone else were wondering how much sawdust you collect in those boots during the build 😄
Like your videos, thank you )
Glad you like them! Thanks so much for watching!
Wow great work
Thanks so much!
Da boots are back, :)
Da boots!! 🙌🙌😎😂
Looks great!

Excellent job
I am glad to see someone else modifies and improves their design on the fly. Good on you. Great end result. I am a WWMM crossover.
So glad you enjoyed the video! And also, thanks so much for making your way over to my channel. I hope you enjoy the content!
THAT'S one nice looking dresser! Great job!
Thank you! 😊
You made it look so simple, and the size is probably added complexity to it. Nice build.
The size just adds weight 😂 haha. I’m glad you enjoyed watching!
Me encantan tus proyectos 😋
Thank you so much!
Awesome 😲👍
Thank you 👍
I watched your talk with Steve and now I am an even bigger fan of yours. I hope you do decide to build your own house. And if you film it, that would be just awesome. Best of luck to you and your family :)
You’re so kind! I really appreciate that! Maybe one day we will tackle the house 😅 it will be quite the job if we do haha. Thank you so much for the well wishes 💕 same to you!
Nice job!
Thanks!
I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel. Great work. I'll have something to watch for tonight.
Thanks so much for following along!
The slide out tie rack is a very nice touch for easy access.
So glad you liked that! I was really excited about adding that in here!
I got to see your interview on Steve Ramsey 's wood working show. I am glad he is promoting your work to others from his stage.
Take care
Buy yourself a panel carrier! Watching you unload that timber I reckon you'd find it easier :).
It’s the only workout I get. I kind of enjoy it 😄
WOW! I love the way you used basic techniques over and over again to evolve into a really complex but functional piece of furniture.Great job! Thanks for sharing.
I like to keep it as simple as possible. Glad you enjoyed it! Have a great weekend!
Looks great! I also enjoyed your interview with Steve Ramsey!
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it and made your way over to my channel. I hope you enjoy the videos!
this build is so awesome.... great job!!!
Thank you so much!
Glad to see some other woodworkers in Kentucky. I know you live in western Kentucky I myself live in central Kentucky. I saw you on WWMM with Steve Ramsey so I subscribed to your channel
So glad you found your way over. Thanks so much for following. It’s a small world! Glad to “meet” a fellow Kentuckian here!
Another fantabulous job 👍 and skillful acrobatics maneuvering the bottom section. 👏
Haha glad you enjoyed the project and the video! Thanks for watching!
First time watching your videos and you are awesome. Designs are not complicated and the use of less expensive tools that woodworking hobbyists like myself have give us the incentive to try to build something. Subscribed!
Your projects are great. They are definitely attainable by most DIYers. Nice job!
Thank you so much! I love to keep things simple 👍
This is great. It’s sooooo big. But like you said… breaking it down into multiple projects makes it seem more manageable
Yes! It's definitely big, but also definitely doable :)
I just started watching your videos an awesome to see a lady wood worker an step by step directions a nice
You are so talented and inspiring. My cuts are always so off.
Thanks for including the link and specifics on draw slide installation! Another great build with simple instructions. Thanks Shara for another great build. and I hope you’re having a great weekend!
I hope you’re having a great weekend as well! Thanks so much for watching! I hope that drawer guide is helpful! 🙌
That looks so good!
Thank you so much!! It was a lot of fun to build!
Wow, Wow, Wow....I love the design and final outcome of the project. You were able to create a good looking well balance design between the three elements of drawers, cubies, and vertical storage box. You are a Design Diva!
You’re so kind! I appreciate that! I really enjoyed building this piece!
What an elegantly simple and functional piece! Hey, if you get your ply from a big-box store (like I have to), that stuff will bow on you no matter what. I've learned the hard way to do what you did - hide extra bracing in inconspicuous places to keep it true and square. Well done!
Thanks so much! I do buy my plywood from Home Depot and I haven’t really had a lot of issues with it being bowed. It seemed to get worse in this case with the drawers, so it could have been the weight or one of the drawers was trying to pull it in a little. Either way, I’m glad it was an easy fix haha! Anyway, Thanks so much for watching!
I agree with your comment 100%. While plywood comes off the mill true and square shipping, handling, moisture content changes, how it is stored by the retailer and how long, as well as how it is stored and handled by the end user easily will affect its shape. Thanks Shara for sharing that note in your project. Handling wood changes is certainly a part of the build process.
There's a lot of awesome in this build girl!
Thank you so much!!
HI, I JUST SAW YOU ON STEVE RAMSEY'S VIDEO, AND YES I JUST SUBED YOU. GOOD LUCK. EMILE FROM CT.
So glad you made your way over! Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy the videos 😄
Another super cool piece, Shara!
Thanks so much!
Absolutely beautiful Shara! You blow me away with these builds!
I appreciate that! Thank you!!
This was nicely designed and executed.
Thanks so much! I really enjoyed building it!
Looks so good! Learned that mistakes are only learning opportunities! Great job!
So true! Mistakes are definitely opportunities. Thanks so much for watching!
As always, another amazing project! 👏
You’re so kind. Thank you!
Like how you address your boo boos. Fixing after the fact is handy when we go from brain to build. Puttering with wood is a new joy to me.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! My dad always says the only difference between a professional and an amateur is that a professional knows how to fix their mistakes. I make a lot of mistakes, so I've had a lot of practice fixing them haha
A terrific project and quite useful too. Nicely designed and executed.
Thank you 👍
Well done! I love how thorough you are explaining your process! 💗💞💖
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Superb design!
Thanks so much!!
Really beautiful work, Shara! It looks amazing! 😃

Great build, love it and I like the fact that everything in your videos are well explained.
Thank you! I’m glad to hear it!
Thank you Shara for another awesome build! 👍🏻 I like those big drawers… can’t have enough drawers! 👌 Thanks for sharing!
I agree! Big drawers are the best! I wish I had space for something like this in my home. One day maybe 😄 but I’m glad you enjoyed the build. Thanks so much for watching!
Great job again. Love all your projects. Take Care Shara
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic project as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching!
Really like all of your builds... Keep the videos coming... You do good work...
I appreciate that!! Thank you!
Long time follower and commenter here and I was so excited to see you on WWMM video! He’s my other favorite woodworker and you guys touched on a point that I felt to be the whole reason I watch and love you both. You both do the type of real world, practical woodworking that I feel is achievable for most hobbyists and semi-professional woodworkers. You don’t get fancy but you produce really nice results. And let’s be clear… you do REAL WOODWORKING! Hoping you’ll get that silver play button soon!
Hi friend!! Thanks so much for following along! Steve is such a great guy and a really inspiring creator. I really admire his outlook and how he keeps his content helpful and focused on simple, but nice results. That's my goal as well--to inspire makers of all skill levels. I'm so glad you enjoy that part of it and I really do appreciate your kind words and support! Thank you so much
I loved watching this go from a SketchUp model to a full blown build. It looks so good! 🙌🏼
Thank you so much Sam!! 💕💕
Where have you been Huntress?
I love it when some of my favorite sawdust makers on RUclips comment on each others videos 👌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻
Another one of my favorite woodworking channels. First Steve Ramsey and now DIY Huntress, sweet.
@@NirvanaWoodWorksbyJanie They are all so talented
Fantastic work! I think it looks very good and you broke down the construction steps nicely. Thanks for sharing this.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I had a lot of fun building this even if it was in a random order 😂
