  • Making a short mountain bike loop out of the Christmas Valley Trail in the South Lake Tahoe area. Riding an Intense Tracer Pro 27.5 The ride starts at the bottom of South Upper Truckee Road to the Big Meadow TH parking, then takes the Tahoe Rim Trail and finally the bulk of the DH is on the Christmas Valley Trail. The trail is an excellent advanced MTB ride. It is flowing in section but then has a lot of very fun high and low speed rockgarden jank. Loved it.

Great video, such an awesome loop, rode it tonight. Did little out and backs to Round Lake (made it, very nice, recommend) and tried to reach Dardanelles but stopped at the last big hike a bike. Also, I saved the road climb til the end which was pretty tough haha

It's a fun loop. I didn't get a chance to do it last I was up there but won't be too long before I'm back.

Did you have your lockout on when going downhill there? Didn't look like the suspension was eating things up quite like it should be. You were gettin' widdit though man! Right On! You were doing pretty good in the rocky sections too. I like that most of the switchbacks didn't look like the kind that are crazy sharp turnarounds. Like they look like they were made by bikes instead of hikers, which lets ya keep flowing!

The suspension was open. My rebound on the forks may be a bit high but I do know for a fact that my rear on that ride was low on air. Couldn't find the shock pump before I went up there. I'm still trying to experiment with settings, etc. The trails up there are so awesome they put in so much planning and work when building the trails.

That climb looked brutal. What was the total mileage and ascent? The DH looked sick. I've heard a lot of people talking about this but haven't done it. Definitely on the list now.

Total mileage for the loop was 8.7 according to my strava. 4.2 of it was going up with 1588 ft of elevation gain. The Luther Stairs section definitely is brutal. I wanted to challenge myself to do some of those sections but I just ended up draining energy from later. Next time I'm just going to take that section slow and hike a bike it. The DH is super fun. It felt like 2/3 or more of the DH was just nice consistent advanced tech but no big features like large drops. Challenging but able to maintain speed and a feeling of flow though it all. And if your not alone you can shuttle up the road section and just start at the big meadow TH.

Hey one more question. What camera set-up are you using? I have a GoPro 7 Silver but I just got a chest mount and want to smooth it out as much as possible. Thanks! I hiked this trail today.

This was a Hero 7 Black on a chest mount in Superview with hypersmooth at 2.7K 24 fps. When I wear a fullface helmet I mount it under the chinbar. Make sure to do some test vids playing with the up/down angle as it is pretty important. When I found where I like it I make a mark on the mounts with a razor.
