    Hello Jamie, I'm pretty sure that changing the highlights and the shadows etc before merging to HDR doesn't do anything different than just leaving them on their default settings. Thanks so much for these videos, they're greatly appreciated, I've learned tons!

      You may be right Brian, however, I have always altered the highlights and shadows and exposures before HDR, mainly just to check that the required dynamic range is available, thanks for the comment it is appreciated 😀

    Hi Jamie, great video. Very useful. You said you shot with a Sony A7R iv. A very good dynamic range. Could not this edit be done without HDR. Or was the HDR needed, desired, because you were not able to do a longer exposure on a tripod? I have just gone mirrorless with a Nikon Z7ii. Im assessing when I would need HDR

      Hi Neil, when shooting at night, the contrast is huge between the bright artificial lights and the surrounding location, this shot would just be possible from a single frame using a modern sensor, however, you would need to push the shadows 5-6 stops, and this would make the very dark areas quite noisy, by using the HDR approach we are only pushing the shadows about 3-4 stops, so much more manageable, I hope this answer your question 🙂

    Jamie, do you always convert the RAW file to .dng before editing?

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin  Год назад +1

      Lightroom converts the RAW to DNG when importing, and then I export the images in DNG as well. It just keeps things consistent when sharing the files. The DNG files have the same colour depth and dynamic range as the RAW files, so there are no problems.
