I am in the process of reducing my main work from 5 days per week to 3 days, so I can focus more on my photography , fingers crossed I can do more videos 🙂
Lightening and darkening areas, plus adding contrast, turn a 2-dimensional photo into a 3-dimensional photo. It really makes the photo, black and white and color, jump out. I like both color and black and white about the same. The color version has a mysterious look to me. The black and white has a dynamic look to me. A valuable video. Thanks!
Thank you very much for this inspiring video. I liked the way you turned the daylight photo into a dramatic black and white photo. That gives me plenty of new opportunities shooting at daylight.
It is a real balance between trying to get everything perfect and not going on for more than an hour 😀 If I do an edit that will be sold or used for public display, I can take as long as 4-6 hours to complete the edit. Doing RUclips videos is fun, but it is also a compromise 😀
Jamie, I so enjoyed our trip to Litchfield CT and to discover this handsome church. As always, you have succeeded in making a beautiful fine art photo and have left a tutorial on how you achieved it. Many photographers are learning things from your unique methods. Thanks for your willingness to share.
If you set the stamp tool to darken, you won't accidentally erase any of your subject. Also you don't need to be nearly as precise in removing the halo.
Another interesting video Jamie. I shoot and develop a lot of black and white film, I have Silver FX , will the adjustments still work on digitized black and white images. Love watching your videos, always inspirational. Look forward to many more.
Yes, it will still work on digital film images, however, the real impact comes from sending a colour image to Silver Efex Pro, as you have the colour contrast to play with as well as the grey scale !
Great walkthrough, Jamie, as usual. I really appreciate for thinking aloud during the process 😇it really makes a difference from viewer's perspective. I am just curious - you didn't sharpened the image, right? Any particular reason? It is usually a part of my process (at a final stage of editing) to sharpen certain areas of the image and instead of using sharpening tools in Lightroom classic, I use external tool, Topaz Photo AI - it does a wonderful job.
Lightroom defaults to 20% sharpening, so generally once I have added clarity and some texture, the image is sharp enough. Sometimes additional sharpening can be helpful, but generally, I do not add more. I find the images from my Canon R5 (when taken correctly) are extremely sharp anyway 😀
Watched a video the other day who had a tip where select sky affects the top edges of the foreground, eg. tops of mountains, that you possibly don't want. So "if you select sky, then intersect the mask with the Sky" it solves the problem. Rediculous, but hey that is editing sometimes.
Hi Dave, when Canon make a 14mm RF TS-E Lens I will buy one 😀 however with the tools we have available in Lightroom and Photoshop we can correct almost anything 😀. thanks for the questions ...
Are you purposely referencing “The Truman Show” with Jim Carrey when you start your opening welcome by saying “good morning afternoon and evening”. Just curious.
Excellent work, quite possibly one of the clearest yet detailed black-and-white conversion videos I’ve seen
Thank you very much 😀
Thanks, Jamie, for showing us the versatility of this masking tool.
you are very welcome David 😀
You have become a master with the masking features in LRC and have inspired me to explore further the potential of these features. Thank you, Jamie!
You do not know how happy it makes me feel to know that I inspire you in this hobby 😀 thank you for the comment...
Happy to see you back at this - everyday I check to see if you have a new video! Thank you for video, each time I learn something new. Thank You

Good to hear from you Marlin, and thank you for the comment, you know it means a lot to me 😀
First, that is a wonderful B&W image. I learned very much from watching this video. Thank you.
thank you for your compliment, and it is very nice to know that the video was useful 😀
Amazing…Thank you…so many “I was today years old when I learned….” moments for me!
Truly inspiring

Very cool. I think you are way more patient man than I am. Your results do prove the value of it.

You are the master at relighting an image. I also use Silver FX and love it.
Thank you for your kind words. Silver Efex is the best 😀

@Cannygeezer Thanks Bill, and it was great to have shared the day with you, Litchfield was a lot of fun my friend 😀
Thanks for another great session, and for including the Silver Efex option which I use with the Nik 7 Collection.
Thank you Norman 😀
Love your channel, thank you for sharing your editing techniques with us ! 🙏🙏🙏

you are very welcome 😀
You are a Master teaching photography
Thank you very much, your kind words are very much appreciated 😀
Hit on this by accident, thank you. Excellent
Have a look back at my older videos, I cover all different methods and styles, plus I love a little day-to-night conversion 😀

thanks for the tip !! 😀
Good job, learn a lot thanks

Inspiring. Thank you.

I am very happy to hear this Mike, I appreciate that you took the time to leave a comment 😀
Perspective Crop in Photoshop is the best way correct the distortion inherent in wide angle lenses without the shift/tilt mechanism.
You are correct, Perspective Crop is a very powerful tool, I will show it in one of my future videos 😀
Great BW again...Greetz Guus
Thanks Guus 😀

@@jamiermathlin Thanks for the details, Jamie, I highly appreciate.
Excellent, thank you 🙏
You are more than welcome Jayne, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, it is very much appreciated 😀
Thanks Jamie.
You are very welcome 😀
Halos are so common place, that it would be great if Adobe could create a Halo Brush that can handle this task with AI in a fraction of the time.
I agree, maybe that is soon to arrive 😀

Rediculous, but hey that is editing sometimes.
Now that is a very interesting tip Nicky, I will try that and see what happens, thank you very much 😀
I've also seen mask sky, subtract sky then invert that 2nd mask
Cool great tutorial. But are the serfs uprising and burning the city? because there's a distinct glow mid left between trees and wall,
😀🤣😂😅😎
Jamie, any reason why you didn't use a TS-E lens, other than none exist at 14mm (Canon EF TS-E of course).

@@jamiermathlin true, but I do think it's better to do it in lens/camera than in PP.
In LR there are B&W presets to. Why don't u use those
I have tried them, but they do not give the depth that I get from either editing myself or using Silver Efex (which is awesome) 😀
Are you purposely referencing “The Truman Show” with Jim Carrey when you start your opening welcome by saying “good morning afternoon and evening”. Just curious.
No, not specifically, I say it as my videos are watched at all times of the day, but I can see that it is used the same way in the film 😀
@@jamiermathlin lol, I’ve noticed and i think it’s a great intro, and for some reason, today it made me think of the movie. lol
@@supespawn22 LOL 😀
OK
thanks 😀
I tried 3 times, but 50 min video is way too long. Sorry
thanks for the feed back !
