The Telefunken mic sounds a little darker and sounds more natural and well seated in the mix. The Sony mic is more hyped in terms of high frequency spectrum that introduces a conflictual situation with the added effect. Therefore the Telefunken has an edge over the Sony mic.
That’s exactly what I heard also! It seemed more production ready 🎤
I was feeling the same way 🙌🏾
I agree… you have a keen attention to detail I might add
Its weird the Telefunken sounds a little more present in the 2k range than the sony, but i do think there is more detail in the lower end too so it works out
You have it backwards, the 251 is brighter and the c800 is flatter
Mixed Sony translates better for me. But the 251 with no processing sounds more natural
thats how i heared it also
Exactly how I heard it too.
I agree
The mids on that 251 are so good.
The T251 does something special. Sounds more musical.
Reall
More mids
The Sony c800g was used by Luther Vandross. He would bring his own Sony 800g to studio sessions. Well that's what I read....
Way to expensive i prefer the T51
That TELEFUNKEN though, did some things indeed
Sony fits the....machine-sounding back track well, hyper accurate but a touch cold. The 251 has a human warmth that turns the whole into a song. 251 sounds ready even before processing.
100% agree
It doesn’t matter what Mic you use when your voice is fucking immaculate💯
It does for a good mix
@@Marvooo74mixing is way harder then signing
For this kind of music, the C800G is the clear winner.
Wow the TF 251 sounds Amazing the vocalist has something to do with it as well 👏
damn, bruh that vocal chain is magical, wish I was this good with mixing daaaaammmnnn😮
Listen to the dry signal bro. I can imagine youve never worked with the vocals that clean. It’s not that hard when ur working w great material. Mixing as a beginner is the hardest thing bc u work w bad material
On my phone I’m hearing some additional sparkle on the high end with the Tele. Also a shift in the mids but there is some detail and clarity in the Tele that im not hearing in the Sony. But yea both are fantastic.
I like the Sony...seems to have a little more width and brightness.
The Sony is for if you need pop vocals where you aren't going to do much editing. The Telefunken gives more overall detail so you can shape your vocals however you like for whatever application.
Telefunken is more crisp and blended with the instrumental! Fresh sound!
With your vocal I think Telefunken suits better because your vocal itself already has that “hype” so Sony is a bit overkill. For rounder and duller voice Sony would work well. Also I felt Telefunken has bit more depth.
The Telefunken 251 sounds amazing
The 800G is better used with vocalist who have a prominent lower tone/register. This is why Adele sounds so warm yet clear on her tracks. The balancing contrast effect of a warm and low voice through a brighter mic.
The 251 works better in the opposite fashion, being better for vocalist that have a dominant mid/high register tone. It's sound signature curve also has no peaks in the normal problematic frequencies that come along with a mid/high register singer. The balancing contrast effect of a bright and mid/high register voice through a warmer mic.
Can you listen to my cover on my shorts and tell me which microphone would be best with my voice since I’m stuck between the two
@@_dannyoliver4934 First off, I love the short! Prime example of how much talent the world has thats not on the charts.
Secondly, after listening to your voice I can see why you're on the fence. Your register, based of the key of the song you are singing, is smack dab in the middle. If you were torn in between those two choices I would go for the 800G.
It would be more flexible for you as it is generally a more flexible mic regarding tone. The 251 definitely not as flexible.
If you're interested in getting some tracks Master hit me up, I'll take care of you. Just mention your comments here and I'll hook you up with promotional prices. Keep vibing!!!
Conclusion: So we need them both. Very good sounding for different jobs and singers.
Both sound good! I like them both
That Telefunken 251 is the reissue or vintage ? Because sounds great , missing the chain on that comparable, preamp ?
Both sound great but for modern hip hop and pop that c800 is killer
The 251 seems to add some air but the C800 has more body. Both are great mics that work for your voice. In the mix, I’d have to go with the 251. Have you looked at the U67 yet? I have this mic and an 251 and always seem to go to the U67 for 90% of my clients. 👍🏻
The U67 is a better sounding mic than the 251 imo
digging the 251 here
I love them both. I believe it’s a matter of preference. Both takes with and without processing sounded great in detail. The processed takes to me narrowed down to if u wanted the vocals to gel within the mix or if u want the vocals to be more forward in the mix. I like a forward sounding vocal so I’d go with the ELAM 251 even though similar results could still be achieved with additional processing for the C800. Part of why we invest into gear is so it takes less to do in post so definitely the 251 for me.
TELEFUNKEN baby! I don't know WHAT they do... but it allways is magic
Telefunken is clean forsures ! You could definitely hear the difference between the 2! ❤ that’s what’s up look forward to recording with both myself thank you for the great sounds team!!!! Much luv
The tube in the tele sounds warmer. However I like the clarity of the Sony. It's a tough choice. Both sound great.
I agree with you as well!
me too
Sony on songs like Work, No evil but 251 on songs like underwater, emotional
Sony for Rapping/Pop and 251 for Singing
They're Both tremendous. So are your vocals. So refreshing to hear some new unique styles. Good shit. Kinda turning me on a little with them. I would say for this track The SONY! There 251 jets out on its own a bit more to me. The 800 lays in a little better for this. You'r one hell of a producer/engineer/Vocalist.
Telefunken has lot of saturation in the highs. I'd go with the C800 just because it would be much easier to EQ.
Sony for me on you- a bit warmer- the 251 it amazing but very bright and a bit overboard forwardness...
It’s sooo close that it almost doesn’t matter. Both will react well to any analog or digital gear. Great mics.
According to my ears the TF has a tad bit more air and crisp, it sounds sharper. The sony had a little more body than the TF. I could be wrong though
On that voice i prefer the c800.i find the 251 adds more low end.
I'm curious how a Rode NT1 would compare with your performance + FX chain
cheers!!
Inconclusive. I don’t think either of them are appropriate mics for that specific track, I’m not sure what I would use, probably some thing a bit darker like Avantone cv12. Your voice over sounded really good.
Where can I find this song because I was looking for a few months back but couldn't find it anywhere? I'm in love with this song it's so catchy
Sony c800 gives you that more natural sound, but the other mic just give you that more high end sound and more louder
TF 251 always!
Karra, any chance you able to do the same with the Warm Audio Variants? WA‑8000 vs WA-251. And also against Sony, Telefunken?
I liked Sony dry & telefunken with fxs🔥 great mics
Is this song available yet? I’ve been DYING to hear the full thing 😅
Telefunken would be my choice if i had to choose just 1 mic but i love them both….
Telefunken sounds fuller, wider and more natural and sounds similarly open to the Sony. I think the Telefunken mic gives the voice a certain size/weight that Sony can't. Sony has absolute crystal clarity for this. Both sound 3D. A question of taste
Hard to Choose as you said both amazing , the Sony to me seems a little brighter but the Telefunken seems mellower but more detailed.
both sound great , i would go with sony just cause ... :p
What about the humming noise
In this prestigious vocal chain ?
The Telefunken sounds good to me. Hope I can get a studio monitor speaker from you🙏 I'm from philippines trying to build a home studio but not enough budget to have one. Hope your good heart recognize me❤️
I like the Telefunken on your voice better. .But you can't go wrong either way!😊
Telefunken too bright at the highs, Sony has more voice presence and lack a bit of highs. In both cases, nothing that a proper EQ can't handle.
The both have an excellent sound ❤
To methe Atelefunkensounds rivher snd more natural, it picks up a more complete spectrum of the colors in your voice
Both excellent! But imma go w the telefunken
T251 Crisp mids. Sounds amazing. before the mix. But that Mix made the Sony shine more to my liking.
All i know, i would sound dope on both of them.
right
THEY BOTH SOUND GREAT I LIKE THE 251 A BIT MORE
What’s the vocal chain tho?
I heard an unexpected higher presence in Telefunken, the wave forms don’t yield whats I thought they might….they both sound amazing but for this comparison i’d choose the telefunken
Might just be me, but I heard a bit of distortion at the start of the Tele
The telefunken doesnt pick up the noise floor as much so it depends what youre looking for
KARRA PLEASE - WHAT IS THIS SONG? I keep coming to this short come ON
I mix them both in the uad sphere plug-in🔥
Sony def has more body. But the unprocessed recording on the TF 251 was outstanding
Telefunkuen has more brighter sound it’s amazing
What Software is That Studio 1?
Both sound best. I prefer Sony for more modern mix/genre. btw Im using Genelec 1030A
Telefunken. How much you want for it?
What's is your pre amp?....
251 is magic for me on this vocal.
I really prefer the Sony c800g
the Telefunken sounds better on the higher notes, I think. The G# and A sound amazing with the Telefunken. But doesn't mean much. The Sony maybe sounds better on other frequencies
251, warmer, well balanced. 800 is way more bright, it is great for dark warm vocal voices
Definitely would go for the Elam 251. The sound is better and it’s not ugly IMO like the big heat exchanger hanging off the Sony. Sorry DR DRE
Once something reaches a certain price point. There is hardly any noticeable difference. Compare it to an SM57 and we can talk.🎉
Yeah that Sony got that commercial pop vibe going
What do you use that tube screamer for ?
Experimental vocal distortion
The Telefunken sounds really really good
I love the 251❤
I couldn’t tell much of a difference if any and I’m listening in headphones not earbuds but I did gravitate towards that Telefunken
Whats is name of this song???
Tele for me all day.
Maybe C-80 VS C-800g comparison?
The 251 sounds slightly better. Both are very bright mics but the 251 has a little more midrange bump and the 800 is a bit more hyped in the high end.
Telefunken sounds warm and clarity
he Sony sounds really good but then it´s time for the Telefunken and ... wow, pure magic!
The 251 sounds more gated i like the 1st mice sound better
TF has a slight high end boost
How can I hear the song.. that shit sound fiya
Imma have to roll with that 251
Since sibilance is my problem, I like the Sony more
The T251 was much more clear…
It actually made the Sony sound muddy in comparison and we all know it was clean as well. The Telefunken was just really clear.
I see why the top dogs use it.
I’m gonna try and find a used one. 💯
I'll go with the Sony, the Telefunken may win in another senerio but not this one, for me.
Elam is my dream mic
251 all day. The Sony was a familiar sound. That 251 is special tho
What is this studio program? ? 😢
ProTools
I have a 50-dollar mic from Amazon that's great.
The telefunken sounds better for this song, but they both sound AMAZING, either way.
Both great but love the Tele
Telefunken sounded more seated in the mix. But felt a little choked solo. Listening from phone speakers
I like the low end on the Sony
wow the 251 is awesome
Gosh! I wish to afford a $1k mic! I know that my first choice would be Neumann but "money too tight to mention" haha. Now I'm looking for my first LDC mic for max $500 but there are endless choices today... I noticed that when I would have any amount of money I could tell right now which gear I would like to buy. But when you must choose and make compromises then choice is a pain in the a... Well.. Maybe you could recommend me some mics to $500? I know that many of them are suitable for specific scenarios and can sound a little bit coloured but maybe some "neutral" and "versatile" sounding one? Thanks everyone.
