My grandson is working on the props for his high school play and is seriously considering pursuing fashion design as a career. I passed over my travel machine and tried to give him a quick overview of the ins and outs of sewing. I'm sharing this video with hopes that he will pay more attention to your tips that he did to mine LOL

I recently learned that for high speed quilting that a smaller needle like 75/11 would not be appropriate due to the speed. The needle would bend a little trying to get through thick layers and would throw off the timing of the stitch construction.
It is technical things like this that I wish to learn so I can trouble shoot just like a repairman would do. There are so many variables involved when I'm having trouble that it is mind boggling which causes frustration.
Thank you for your helpful generosity

Yes, so many variables, and all we want to do is make pretty quilts, ugggg. Glad this was helpful, I am still learning everyday, happy to share.

I’m working on some thick fabric with fusible stiff interfacing, my thread is skipping stitches or won’t stitch a fancy stitch? It isn’t pulling the bobbin thread up through the fabric when it skips. Do I need to adjust the tension and what size needle should I use.

What a great tutorial. I think this is the first tutorial I've seen about needles. Thank you very much for this. It was very helpful. Now I'm going to pull out my manuals and check the recommend needles suggested.

I already could join a Schmetz lecture about there machine needles here in Germany. It's so interesting to learn and so important to know all about something we use nearly every day. Very good tutorial 😃

Wow, sound great. Did Rhonda Pierce from Schmetz do your presentation in Germany? I think she is the best!!!

@@StitchinHeaven Hi, no not Rhonda, like you know Schmetz is a German Company. The lecture was at the German Patchwork Days some years ago in Celle and at the pandemic in 2020 online. It was a German male speaker, he spoke to a large auditorium and had a slide show running to visualys (?) what he was talking about. Sorry my English is not so good. I ordered a good amount of a kind of small flyers, leporellos, as a hand out for the classes I run and got a big tote full of them. They are handy because of the color code printed in it you can find out quickly what needle you are using in your machine and if you have to replace it. Many greetings from Germany

Thanks for the info. I use sharps 14, for my quilting. Universal for piecing 12 or 14. I'm going to get the app. What a great tool to have with you when shopping. Happy New Year to you and your family.
