Hi Rob, Thank you for your videos. Yes, I would love to learn more about the technical side of sewing. I think understanding the nuances of needles, tension, and anything else that is important to understand, will only help us take better care of our machines. Thanks again!
Yes, I would love to see more of taking care of the machine. I have a love affair going with mine. Any thing to help her last longer would be great. I love the new backdrop quilt.
Thanks so much for this info! Please give us some more hacks to regulate the tension on our machines. I've recently had my machine serviced, but I am still having trouble with threads pulling on the back when I am making a circle or a curve with my free motion quilting. Thanks!
Rob, I love you! Yes, I would like to see you talk about needles, tension too I guess. BTW I've been sewing for about 60 years, started on making my own Barbie clothes! Actually I was taught hand sewing and embroidery a few years before that. (I'm 71). Oh, and did I say, I love you ? Ha, lol. I love your style and appreciate your sharing of knowledge and yourself. You are a real dear. Thank you so much.
Hey there sewing brother! I’m also a friend of Bills - I love when we out ourselves and show others what a healthy fun exciting sober life looks like:-).
When I first came across this video I definitely judged your book by its cover - but when I heard why you quilt my judgements were put right in their place, thanks for a dose of humility - great video, I’m subscribed! 💙🙏🏽
I use a good quality paint brush because it gets into tinier places and attracts the lint with a bit of static electricity. I used to do cleanings for my students and customers who bought machines from me.
Hello Rob, finding you this morning was a blessing I need for my sewing machine, you did a great job giving out this information, since cleaning my sewing machine it sews so much better, I got one more to do. 🙏's
Gracias for your tips and yes please show us more, with economy like it’s been n getting worse money is very tight w living expenses can’t afford repairs, and repair shops for machines I small towns n big becoming more and more scarce as it doesn’t make them enough money. So yes please show us all you can,👍👏🏼👏🏼it’s very much appreciated especially for us older folks.
Hi Rob. It would help greatly if you had a tutorial on bobbin tension and how to adjust it for drop in bobbins. I’ve been sewing for over fifty years and just learned how to adjust the bobbin tension. I never knew that there was a bobbin tension on drop in bobbins. So if you could cover that so people could know about it, it will help other people. I love your videos you are really fun. Thanks Joyce
#1 might be just my problem. I’m not near my machine today (I watch RUclipss silently when travelling on public transport… so double points for enabling closed captions)
I appreciated your last comment, the one about cutting the thread, keeping the thread moving in the same direction. It never occurred to me and it makes so much sense. Thank you!
I am laying on the couch because I am sick watching your videos. Realized I have not cleaned my machine for a while. So I went to my sewing room and did it!!! Thank you for all your tips and tricks ❤
Hi Rob, new viewer. Love the quilt hanging behind you. So bright and colourful. I have been sewing for many years but recently heard elsewhere the tip of not pulling the thread backwards out of the machine. Makes alot of sense and I have changed my bad habit😅🇦🇺
Tweezers are a great help in removing lint globs that you can see, first - before using a brush... as brushing may just push it into the machine.... thanks for the tips!
Ooooh Rob!!!! How are u?? I have missed u!!! I didnt know what happened to you. Im glad you are well. Thanks for coming back to your sewing projects! I love them!
So glad to find you with your knowledge of sewing machine maintenance thanks to a great job and yes a class on needles would be outstanding thank you so much! Laverne
I haven’t used my machine in several years and am planning on doing small projects in quilting. I used to oil and clean when using. It is incredible the lint that gets in there, but you have to be careful that you don’t over oil because you will get some on your clothes. I am glad for this video because I will need to do this BEFORE I start sewing again
I was a never service the machine fan just through ignorance. Finally my machine acted up so bad I thought gee let's take it in to somebody. Now I just bring them in once a year. It's a great way to get an old machine to sew like a brand new one.
Hi Rob, I would appreciate a tutorial on needle sizes and use, as well as something thread weights and types ( why cotton vs. polyester). Thanks for such straight forward instructions!
Lovely video.I just helped a friend save a service visit by showing her how to clean her machine and improve the tension.I learned a lot and would like to see the videos about needles and tension pkease.
Absolutely please do a video on tension! I have nearly 50-year old Kenmore, no plastic internal parts (including bobbin case which is a drop-in.) Amazingly the yearly checkup is enough to keep it running beautifully sewing everything from guaze and lightweight knit to upholstery and denims.
Hi Rob, Thank you for all the information on keeping the sewing machine running well. I paid so much for my machine and hope to have it for years to come. I sometimes use a pipe cleaner to clean out in places that my brush can"t get to.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put these videos out. You are so knowledgeable and so informative. It’s like you’re a bag of potato chips. I can’t stop with just one. I have to keep going back and find another one to watch and then another one to watch and then another one to watch. Lol thanks again so much.
Schmootz? 🤣🤣 my new favorite sewing term. Glad to have found you again! If you haven’t already (and I’m going now to check) but PLEASE do some more technical videos!!
Rob I have found out that the dust must be lifted out so I use a pipe cleaner with tiny bit of Sewing machine oil..so that anything picked up from bottom sticks to the pipe cleaner and like every five or so cleaning You should use vacuum,,,,I APPRECIATE THAT YOU are a tecki…However I am an 88year old gramma who absolutely LOVES SEWING MACHINES…and I don’t mind Cleaning my machines regularly ..because I know it adds to the LIFE of the MACHINE…LOVE YOU AND LOVE YOUR SHOWS…YOU ARE AMAZING…
Oh Rob! I NEEDED this video. I needed to learn about cleaning and maintaining my machine. I have to get the copy of the manual printed. I didn't know that canned air could be an issue. TY! I didn't know to remove my bobbin case like that. This is my first machine with a flat bobbin like that. I would love any in-depth talk about needles and 🧵🪡. I never knew about pulling the thread the way it sees, GREAT LOGICAL TIP! TY!! This was super helpful. You explain and demonstrate very well. I am so grateful that I found you. Thank you for sharing this with us.😊🎉❤✂️🦓🍀😊
Hi Rob, so great to see you back on RUclips. I have been sewing for over 40 years and I have never known how the needle numbering system works. I would love for you to do a tutorial on this, thanks!
YES, please tell us all there is to know about tension…I don’t understand any of it and pray it never goes wrong. I live in Savannah, GA where there is NO ONE capable of tuning machines well. RUclips videos are my friends. Thanks
Glad you're back here. I have always enjoyed your videos, you are so much fun. Good for you on being in recovery, you are so awesome! thanks for the great tips. IM looking forward to more of your excellent videos and learning with you.
Yes, please do a video on needles. I’ve gotten different info from different sewing centers and online. I also have an embroidery attachment so please include needles for machine embroidery. Enjoy your channel!
The pipes leaked in the ceiling, and I had my old 1970 s era kenmore right under. Water destroyed the table, but I managed, in the process of drying, fixed what you are describing!!! It works better now better than my newer bernina!!
Hi Rob. Thank you for the simple explanations. I have been sewing for years, but am still a beginner. I cleaned my sewing machine, but never used oil on it. I will try oiling the sewing machine before making baby quilts.
Thank you Rob. The answer to the "Would you like to know more about....."questions is ... yes please. The more I know, the less money I will have to pay out.
Rob - If I may suggest a sub hack when cleaning your bobbin area and that is to use a micro brush. It works much better than a dry brush - watching you fling lint around and have to go after it several times illustrates the point. Just trying to help!! 😃
Have watched your videos for a good while now, even have made some of the quilts you designed, have your book. Never knew you were a recovering alcoholic, gives me even more respect for you! You have done so well!! Color, fabrics, and beauty of design are definitely your go to. Love how you fully explain whatever you have your video on and your sense of humor. Keep it going!
Great info. making your Guitar Pattern into a quilt , What a learning curve as I knew nothing about guitars. my son spends hours on the phone trying to be as accurate as we can. What a Great Pattern, easy to follow directions . Will be glad to gift it to him whem I'm done. Thanks Rob....
Thank you for the tips in this video. Many of them I already knew but several of them I did not. It was also helpful to see how to get the drop in bobbin housing back in. I have one machine that just bit the Dust that would not work after the housing came out until I took it in to the serviced. More servicing videos would be amazing.
I laughed out loud when you said that the manufacturer did not pack felt in the feed dogs BECAUSE I cleaned this particular area and wondered afterward if that 'felt' was supposed to be there....thanks, Rob.
I use Aurifil thread, my machine, Pfaff, likes it best, but I have a problem with the thread being shredded by the needle. I've tried cleaning the machine, changing the needle, changing the bobbin, but it still happens. I went to a larger needle thinking that might have a larger eye, still having problems and yes, I use Schmetz needles. Then the thread breaks and I cannot pull the thread out of the machine, have to pull it through the top when it gets stuck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am 85 yrs old and quilting keeps me alive and alert!
Well I learned something new!! I didn't realize that Microtex meant sharps! That's insane! Thank you so much for all of this information.
Very brave that you say you are a recovered alcoholic. And sewing is a good therapy to keep busy indeed. Applause!
Hi Rob, Thank you for your videos. Yes, I would love to learn more about the technical side of sewing. I think understanding the nuances of needles, tension, and anything else that is important to understand, will only help us take better care of our machines. Thanks again!

Me too

Oh yes please. Would love a video on what all the numbers mean for needles. And tension - I sure need a refresher on that.
Great to see you again ROB how are you missed ya 👍👍👍👍👍😃😃😃😃😃😃

I am laying on the couch because I am sick watching your videos. Realized I have not cleaned my machine for a while. So I went to my sewing room and did it!!! Thank you for all your tips and tricks ❤
That was the best description of why you always want to pull the thread out through the needle.
Thank you but now I want to learn more about needles and tension. So please follow up with more😉
Hi Rob, new viewer. Love the quilt hanging behind you. So bright and colourful. I have been sewing for many years but recently heard elsewhere the tip of not pulling the thread backwards out of the machine. Makes alot of sense and I have changed my bad habit😅🇦🇺
Thank you for telling about the problem I am having with my machine. The bobbin case.

Tension issues are the bane of my sewing existence. I'd love more information!
A video on troubleshooting tension on sewing AND embroidery machine would be great.
I haven’t used my machine in several years and am planning on doing small projects in quilting. I used to oil and clean when using. It is incredible the lint that gets in there, but you have to be careful that you don’t over oil because you will get some on your clothes. I like to vacuum out most of the lint. I agree about the drop in bobbins having more lint.
Hi Rob,
I would appreciate a tutorial on needle sizes and use, as well as something thread weights and types ( why cotton vs. polyester). Thanks for such straight forward instructions!
Schmetz also has great tutorials about needles
Congrats on the drinking. I know that takes an enormous amount of effort and stamina. Kudos.

Hi Rob, Thank you for all the information on keeping the sewing machine running well. I paid so much for my machine and hope to have it for years to come. I sometimes use a pipe cleaner to clean out in places that my brush can"t get to.
