    We were playing a tabletop d20 Star Wars game when we found a mask described just like this one in a private collection on Nal Hutta.
    We stole the mask, leaving behind a great deal of collateral damage (subtlety was not our strong suit) and buried it deep in the magma of Mustafar. Between Nal Hutta and Mustafar we had several bounty hunter attacks, a New Republic (this was roughly 99 ABY) lightspeed chase, signs of haunting on our ship, hallucinations, and two PC betrayal deaths.
    If the mask is not destroyed by the tectonic pressures, hopefully Mustafar's Darkside aura hides the mask away for several millennia.

    Like much with KOTOR 2, I suspect the battle against Nihilus was intended to be a lot more developed had Obsidian been given enough time to make the game how they wanted. Sadly what we got was a pretty bland and easy fight. It would've been kind of cool if you had to fight him through the force when he tries to feed on you, sort of like a 1 v 1 on a force spiritual plane of existence or something, and if the exile wins the fight, Nihilus is weakened from feeding on another force wound, whereas if the exile loses the spirit fight. Nihilus is still weakened, but so is the exile, thus making the battle in the physical reality even harder.

      @@varenshan7731 Yeah, and the sad part is its mostly not even Obsidian's fault. The higher ups at Lucas Arts supposedly changed the already tight deadline mid-development and rushed them even harder just for the sake of a Christmas release.
      Still, maybe the Obsidian team did get a little over-ambitious, which isn't a bad thing given what they were trying to make, but they just tried to do too much with too little time, thus why so much ended up on the chopping block.

      Yeah it'd be cool if they could actually finish the game for an upcoming KOTOR 3 Legendary Collection. A collection actually WORTHY of being called Legendary, unlike the Mass Effect one that didn't even include all the DLC.
      Basically, remake the first two games in UE5, finish the 2nd game properly, and make a 3rd game, and release them all for like $120. Hell, I'd pay $150 if EA didn't get a cut.

      @@dreadrath Honestly I think it's more likely the latter, obsidian have a history of having absolutely awful scope management, basically all of their games outside pillars of eternity have stupid amounts of cut content, or are super unpolished. I can't imagine it's legal to just change a contract midway, and from what I've heard it was mostly on obsidian that the deadline was what it was.
      Still talented devs of course, sawyer is one of the best at what he does imo and avellone with a good editor is a solid writer, but they just are really bad at that actually finishing games side of things.

    I’m fairly sure it’s explained in game that Nihilus is a _void_ in the Force, like a Force Black Hole. Force users give him power because he literally draws it from them by his mere presence. Where life glows in the Force and Force users can sense this glow (“luminous beings are we”) Nihilus is the opposite, there is _nothing_ and Force users can sense him by it’s absence. Kreia mentions that “an errant thought can draw him to you” like a magnet to metal, Nihilus is drawn to Force users because the pull of his hunger literally seeks out the closest and strongest Force presence and move to consume it.
    I think the being wearing the mask isn’t Nihilus, the mask is. Whoever wears the mask becomes a thrall and an empty vessel for Nihilus so it can have a physical form. If your character in KOTOR2 was able to put on the mask, you would be consumed by it and become Darth Nihilus.
    It’s a shame the game is so underdeveloped, Nihilus had the potential to be a _terrifying_ character and easily more powerful than Kreia. Kreia shouldn’t have been the final boss, it should have been him. There should have been a twist where Kriea turned to the dark side as a way to become powerful enough to beat Nihilus, so you either defeat Kreia and find out about Nihilus and then have to try your light side hardest to beat him, or turn and join her and have an easier time against Nihilus.

    • @SeviathTheHumanDrago
      @SeviathTheHumanDrago 2 года назад +1

      Cool theory but no, it's explained that the more force energy he consumed the more it began to deteriorate his physical form and turn him into an energy spirit, he bound what remained of his essence to the mask and robes he wears to give him a physical form.
      Think ringwraiths from LoTR, underneath the mask and robes there's a spirit man you can stab with the right weapons.
      So in a way, after he bound his essence to his mask and robes, you would be correct. But dark side spirit possession isn't out of any powerful Sith spirits forte. Exar kun, is the only notable example I can think of rn.

    • @FuckoffgoogleGetDoxxed
      @FuckoffgoogleGetDoxxed 2 года назад +14

      It made sense that kreia was the final boss. She was the betrayer. Often people dont find out who betrayed them untill the very end. I do agree on him being underdeveloped. Perhaps some sort of imprisonment story would have been better for his character since he's a void and actually not even a real person anymore. Cutting off his source of force would kill him eventually, but the way it went in the game made little sense as to break his will. It must take incredible amounts of willpower to want to exist without a body. In my mind his spirit form was evidence enough that a battle of wills cant kill him. Hence why perhaps it feels bad to alot of diehard fans of kotor. The game is a legend tho and imagine if we got a finished product. Its already one of my favorite nostalgia games in terms of story. Havent seen any game beat its interactive plot discovery's from the character influence stuff. It felt like there was always something new to discover.

    • @Paradox-es3bl
      @Paradox-es3bl 2 года назад +5

      Except you're also a Wound in the Force, and that's why you could beat him. If anyone could wear it and NOT be consumed, it would probably be you in KOTOR 2. Also, tbh, maybe Revan who didn't really "fall." but by that logic, Dooku, too. And I'm not convinced Dooku could resist. And maybe Emperor Vitiate or whatever? Since he also consumed planets. I don't even think like Exar Kun or Naga Sadow or anyone could. I think it's basically Revan's apprentice and maybe the Emperor, and MAYBE if we REEEALLY stretch it, Revan. Theoretically, Dooku could resist longer than most, again just because of the Revan logic. They both CHOSE the Dark Side to accomplish their goals but never seemed to even remotely succumb to it. Of course, we don't actually know that Revan never had Sith eyes.. but c'mon. If Dooku can resist, Revan can.

    • @sagittariusa7662
      @sagittariusa7662 2 года назад +5

      It should had been after he is defeated, someone close to you pulls on the Mask to help fight against Kreia but that person then becomes Nihilus and with this stronger body, he is now stronger than ever. Which then leads to you either allying with Kreia or tossing her aside as she becomes Nihilus's first victim in his new form (minus the person he just took control over).
      It should be that there are three allies that you will have that will become force sensitive and one of those three will betray you no matter what. Normally, it will be Brianna or Mical, but if you have a strong relationship with this character, you could see it be Atton Rand or Mira. So really, it is one of four, but in game, it is one of three because you cannot have Brianna and Mical in your party. It is jealousy that leads to the other becoming the betrayer and this is something Kreia should point out early in the game and continuously hint at as you pick up more party members.
      If you are a female character, you will pick up Mical instead of Brianna. If you pursue nothing, Mical will betray you and become the new Nihilus, albeit the intention was to save you from Kreia. So they (this case, he) see it as justified as they are sacrifising themselves for you. If you befriend or romance Mical more than or at all over Atton Rand, then Atton Rand will replace Mical as the betrayer. If you befriend or romance Atton Rand, then Mical will again be the betrayer.
      If you are male, then it is between Brianna and Mira.
      Choose wisely as the form Nihilus takes will be different depending on how you develop your ally. If not at all, then his attributes will be randomly designated based on that same character but still an improvement (being more difficult) compared to fighting him earlier.
      It should also be possible to ally with Sion as well besides getting him to end himself. But then it will be harder to get Kreia unless you choose to be a grey jedi. Be pure dark sided and the two will end each other. Be pure light sided, and you must choose who lives. Become neither and it is possible to have both, albeit Sion will die after the fight as part of a cinematic (since he sacrifices himself to give you that final blow) and Kreia will be left for you to decide regardless of which path you take so long as she is in your party when you fight Nihilus. You can take her out (Dark Side), forgive her and convince her to return to the light (Light Side), or let her be in which you have another set of options. You can work together to teach people the dark side, destroy the temple and return to the Jedi path together, or leave it as it is and learn more about the galaxy together.
      The last option should be the canon of the series. You did convince Sion and Kreia to work with you as a new triumvirate against a common foe (Nihilus). You defeat him at the cost of Sion. You forgave Kreia and left the temple as it is to travel the galaxy together in which you both succumb to the Emperor at some point as part of the backstory to SWTOR online.

      Nihlius couldn't control it and he died. The video explains that he actually ate himself, consumed by the tear in the force caused by the deaths of the armadas. He tried to store some of his consciousness in his armor just to continue to exist, much like Exar Kun, but he was still unable to do much more than keep the void from devouring all the sith around him...eventually he couldn't even do that.
      Tenebrae created a death field using the force on purpose, and used it as a weapon. It wasn't a tear in the force, but his own power, enhanced by the Sith infighting. He CAUSED the tear in the force and fed from it, rather than it consuming him. Tenebrae is far more sinister, because his power is HIS POWER, and not him trying to open and shut a gate to a black hole. In a way he was still consumed by his own ambition, but that was his doing. He also might be an actual psychopath but that's another topic entirely.

    It's too bad that in SWTOR, we don't have a story like that, where Nihilus make's his return, for those who have his mask and are wearing it, they should have a Return of Darth Nihilus story, where a character who is wearing it or a companion is unaware and is taken over by Darth Nihilus, it wouldn't matter if you have the mask or not or what side you are on, but say he return to cause havoc across the galaxy you in a race against time you are slowly trying to stop him and you take charge as a companion to try to save your main character's life or your companion, and you have to choose which companion you will have as the new protagonist.

      I think the mask _IS_ Nihilus.
      Anyone who wears it, Jedi, Sith, or regular person has their life force drained and they become a husk for Nihilus to have a physical form. As long as the creature wearing the mask is destroyed, Nihilus isn’t a threat, but whoever defeats him better make damn sure they can A) resist the dark side urge to put it on themselves and B) put it somewhere no other living being can find it.

    This is actually hilarious to me as I used a sprite of Nhilius and his mask primarily to make my first Sith final boss for a fan game. I latter ascended it past the "crappy parody" and made a full tale. Guess what I painted over the mask with to make the final armor? Gold. A lot like the death mask it's said to be based on! Hell I think Krueller was a base for the more bulky armor too. A little Apooky how I who never played KOTOR 2, literally tried it on every version of PC and it wouldn't work, would follow the lore without realizing it. Man I love Star Wars EU.

    Darth Nihilus scares me more than any other Sith character, even Palpatine or Valkorian. While they indeed were incredibly powerful in terms of Force/lightsaber abilities, their pinnacle of power was gross manipulation through deceit and influencing much of the galaxy in that way. Whereas with Darth Nihilus, his power was not a choice he made but a massive wound in the Force and it merely became instinctual like literal hunger but instead of food, he became a glutton to eat the Force. The fact that he could not control it made him more dangerous and menacing because he could not exercise restraint. Palpatine nor Valkorian could destroy entire planets at will without some sort of grand device like a Deathstar where Darth Nihilus could without the aid of machines other than a ship...truly terrifying.

Have someone basically get absorbed by the mask, then have someone else later put it on and be just fine. I think it would actually be way cooler for a good character to do so. Just put it on, wear it for like a month, and take it off and be completely chill. Like, "Oh, you want this in the museum/sealed away? Ok Master Archivist." And zero temptation to keep it. And clearly not melted/absorbed by it even after a month lol. Would only work with someone at LEAST Starkiller level, though, imo. Like, better than anyone we've seen in the movies.
