    • @RedShirtGuy96
      @RedShirtGuy96 4 месяца назад +8

      it also sounds like a logistical nightmare to design. If its an actual adhesive like the kind in a rat glue trap, it would have to be designed with a throwable surface or as a stick grenade, and there is always a chance it could hit on the non sticky parts, plus what if you mess up throwing it and stick it to yourself.
      The only viable sticky grenades I can think of are some kind of sci-fi magnetic and designed to target vehicles and metal armor, or some kind of gravity technology

    • @EskChan19
      @EskChan19 4 месяца назад +7

      @@RedShirtGuy96 Actually, back in 2016 some scientists in a university in singapore invented a glue that hardens when a low voltage current is run through it and becomes sticky again when it stops. It's not ready to be used commercially yet but it is a thing that exists. I could see a grenade using that. The current can be very low, low enough not to be dangerous to humans. So either the grenade could have a small battery that keeps it hardened until it detecs that it has been thrown (which would be very easy to do using some accelerometer or gyroscope), or the soldiers suits could give off a low voltage field keeping the grenade hardened while close to the soldier and making it sticky once it leaves the soldiers hand. Both of these are realistic ways to design a sticky grenade.

Funnily enough most of the people in power have the civilian equivalent of CIA agents constantly digging in their closets because the slight chance of corruption they are met with punishment, mind you those in the government have harsher punishments compared to the civilians. Not only that the Civilians themselves example being Rico's dad is a civilian who bitches about the Government just like most Civilians about how their government is stupid but don't do any real change because the system works and they know it, they're the equivalent of twitter users making stupid takes.

      As for the book, I read it as an examination of military leadership. The point of the book is watching Rico climb the ladder. You see the leaders (good and bad) that he has above him, and then what from those leaders he works into his own leadership style. That is why it is on the US Army's suggested reading list for leaders.

    25:20 So... there is a limit since data gets lost due to interference. Even stuff like Voyager I/II data gets lost in travel, and that one is relatively close to earth at like 0.002 light years. Even so, the biggest issue is time delay, since the data can only travel at the speed of light at most, so again on the Voyager example it takes like a day to get to earth, so a 2-way comunication would take 2 days.
    That's why most Sci-Fi series use "subspace" as a method of communication, since they can just handwave the explanation and go with real time comms instead.

    - This was based on a book with the same name by Robert A. Heinlein which while the filmmaker Paul Verhoeven didn’t really read the booklet asking Neumeier to tell him the rest there are a few differences between the book & the movie like military propaganda vs. anti-war satire, the movie added psychic abilities while the book had mech suits, Rico’s dad played a bigger role like actually being in the war, in the book there were talking dogs & other aliens, & many of the characters were alter even the Bugs

    Speaking as a guy that likes the book and the Movie I think its an interesting Dichotomy between them. In the book one of the reasons the most scarred war vets are the ones recruiting is to give them all a clear idea of the kind of shit they could be in for and there's never shame given for deciding to leave. The idea of Government or Military service is to ensure you have a tangible idea of what impact your vote will have. The War is depicted as basically a sort of inevitability that resulted from two powerful factions wanting the same real-estate, With the Bugs basically serving as an idea of a species where Communism actually works because unlike humans, the bugs were evolved for it.
    The Movie's rebuttal to the core "Service For Citizenship" idea is that if you make it through service, the selection pressure will have effectively brainwashed you to vote in the exact ways the current powers would want anyway. The movie has no subtlety that the whole federation regime is basically a cult that worships violence, but notably still displays the cast as a mixed bag at worst, even being part of a really fucked up system, many of them are just trying to do right by eachother.
    The Bugs are obviously not made sympathetic, being depicted as basically a cluster of walking blades with a bad attitude and no self preservation, the horror of the war comes in how it makes the Human Military act more like the bugs, using swarms of expendable cannon fodder at the command of a Psionic elite leadership.

    A spaceship would be pressurized. Space is next to 0 pressure. So if the hull of a ship is breached in space, the high pressure inside would rush to the low pressure outside thereby _pushing_ things through the breach.

    • @rowaystarco
      @rowaystarco 3 месяца назад +1

      the pressure inside isn't that high though. Explosive decompression in scifi is way over the top. The huge rips in the ships in this movie would of course be big trouble, but a smaller hull breach wouldn't cause that much of an issue. You wouldn't need a very strong object to patch a smaller hole in a ship. I would certainly rather have a hull breach in space than in a deep sea submarine...

    • @GreenDude_Gaming

    For the “Space WiFi”, the most likely way that it would be widely adopted is using blink light signals.
    There is a camera/telescope that will zoom towards the craft/satellite and measure the blinks in either infrared/visible light.
    That would most likely be the first adoption because it’s a faster transfer rate in such a wide open area.

    I'll be honest, i'm a bit on Ruff's side. Just because you can put sattelites everywhere doesn't mean every connection will be the same. Just like Wi-Fi connections get weaker once you reach a certain distance, i imagine a satellite would still need to be near SOMETHING in order to have connection. I know we have technology that's already covering THE Universe, not just the solar system, but i think we would need way more in order to turn THAT into basically Space Cell Phones, let alone to make it a common product.

    I'm sure someone has already said it, but im letting you know my thoughts cause you asked for it.
    The main hurdle we are going to run into when it comes to communication in space is that the communication can't travel faster than the speed of light, and since space deals with such vast distances it will be nearly impossible (with our current understanding of technology and astrophysics) to have instant communication.
    To put it in perspective, mars is something like 25 light minutes from earth, say a colony on Mars had some kind of emergency, well it would take 25 minutes for us in earth to even get the distress signal, let alone send a response or team. Now imagine that on the light year scale. You out past Space AAA comms? Looks like it'll be years before we even have info that you are broken down, and you're most likely dead at that point lol

    My favourite thing regarding this movie is a discussion around the asteroid. So, the asteroid hits Earth, and they instantly blame it on the Arachnids within minutes of it touching down, and if you have any clue about how space works, you'd know that it is literally impossible for the bugs to have slingshot the asteroid from one side of the galaxy, to the other, to hit a city on Earth. That's on top of the fact there was obviously no investigation as to its origin, and the arachnid exclusion zone is a massive area of space, even if the asteroid originated there it wouldn't be possible it was sent from Klendathu intentionally. Given that they arrest people, declare them guilty and execute them all in the same day, something tells me the Federation does not care at all for due process and proper investigations.
    I like to think the Federation just wanted to find a scapegoat after a tragedy, because they can obviously defend Earth from asteroids, and saying it was an attack is easier than admitting they just weren't ready for a natural disaster. Even in the movie the characters are actively arguing that Arachnids are not intelligent, which further puts holes in their argument they sent it.
    The director was also asked this, whether or not the bugs sent the asteroid, but he likes to keep out of discussions and so he essentially said "up to you". The idea that the bugs are the innocent party in the war and have no clue why this new species wants them dead is also more intriguing to me.
