One thing I notice about the Axcess steering wheel controler in your diagram is that you say to connect pin 11 to grey red and 22 to gnd. From the installation instruction I found, it says to do the opposite. Just curious to see if that is what you did, or there a little typo
Not a typo. This is what I did. When I was on the phone with Axcess they mentioned that their instructions called for the opposite and crutchfield called for the way I did it. They did not know why the dependency at the time, but told me if it didn't work, I should swap them. I didn't need to. Hope that helps.
Any idea if this install would be the same on a 2019 Honda passport? Everything looks the same but I'm not sure if any of the wiring harnesses would be different. Also, would this control a factory subwoofer and the factory microphone for Bluetooth calls?

Thanks for posting this great video James. Am considering upgrading to the kenwood touchscreen as well but wanted to ask are there any big drawbacks and have you had any problems with any of the functions?
It has been about 5 months and no problems that I have seen so far. I am quite happy with the setup. I love having appleplay, able to see my apple maps on the screen, as well as text messages and phone calls hands free. There are many other apps and features that I have yet to play with. It was a little bit of work, but worth it for $400 something dollars vs a $2K or $3K upgrade to the next higher end Ridgeline just for the better radio. I also enjoyed being able to document what I did to help other Ridgeline owners. There wasn't much out there. Soon (maybe next week) I plan on upgrading the horn to a duel horn to make it louder. I hate the sound of the wimpy horn that the '17 has. It is my understanding that the '19 horn is a duel horn system, so it must have bothered someone else as well. I will document that as well. I didn't document it, because there are already videos out there, but if you didn't door the rear door check hack, I recommend it! Much more convenient!
Yeah I already did the rear door hack. Awesome mod but factory was Just way too narrow. I finally did the installation and everything worked except for the camera. Reverse wiring wasd correct because screen changes to camera mode when I back up but seems as if there's no power. The screen is black with the colorful lines saying to check for surroundings
Would you or anyone here happen to know what the problem is or had that problem with their installation? I doubled and tripled checked your diagram seemed like everything is correct. I'm thinking it may be a faulty wire with the camera harness so I might take it out and check it when I have some time
Jeff Hoang I am not sure, but I would check the ground to the wiring harness. I think I read somewhere that it needed to be connected to its own ground and not to the same ground as the wires to the radio.

@@Robraddd You are certainly entitled to your opinion, however to me it was worth it, which I documented it for anyone wanting to do it themselves. I did it myself and it is not difficult to do. Great video. Thanks for your hard work and knowledge sharing.
My pleasure. Thank you!
Great vid .thank u!
Thanks Man, great job.
Got the Kenwood Dmx7706s installed in my 2017 Ridgeline RTL but can’t get the Axxess ASWC-1 recognize the unit. Just keeps going to red/green flash back and forth. When we try to hold down volume to get to ASWC to go solid green I just goes back to red/green flash
Any advice.
All I can suggest is to double & triple check the wiring. If not, call Axxess customer support.
You could also try switching the 11 to grey red and 22 to ground. I do it the way my instructions said. Axxess said to switch it, but it didn''t work that way - just the original way I was told.
Isn’t the amp on the factory head unit ?
Will it work with the new 2021 Ridgeline Black Edition?
You have a 2021 black edition?? Why do you want a upgrade for that??
Hi there, is the PAC USB-TY1 Toyota/Lexus OEM USB Port Retention Cable is compatible with the 2017 honda ridgeline to retent the usb port? Thanks.
yes. that is what I used
@@TJhooker07753 Thanks James, one last question Brother. AX-Hon24RVC-6V to retention for backup camera. Connected Black wire to ground of the AX-CAM6V to ground - connecte Red wire labled Camera Power 6V to blue/red wire of the AX-Cam6v - connect yellow rca jack to camera input. This is where I messed up -(Connect the Reverse In wire from the aftermarket radio to the Blue/White wire of the AX-cam6v) - That did not work. I must of not hook up the Reverse signal in the vehicle which I don't which wire it is. Please help and thanks again.
Is the Resverse signal in the Vehicle is the Brown wire where the fuse box is?
Did you notice any noticeable difference with sound ?
I did not notice any difference with sound at all. They are the same speakers. I have never been happy with quality of FM radio with factory or after market units. I blame the antenna, however. CD or streaming music sounds fantastic!
Thanks so much!
Does your side camera function still work
My model doesn’t have side cameras. I have the RTL.
James, how did you take out the brown reverse wire? I don't want to break it...
nysprewell don’t take it out. Tap into it. I used a quick tap from the auto parts store. Make sure it’s the right gauge.
I preferred this method because I didn’t want to cut anything that could effect car warrantee.
nysprewell see video at 8:02. You can see the red tap that I used.
@@TJhooker07753 Cool thanks. Yeah i didn't know what red thing was or how to use it. i'll figure it out. Do you remember the gauge size?
Ok thanks I'll check that out
Is there an adapter to be able to retain my Bluetooth microphone in my 2019 Honda Pilot similar to the USB adapter you used?
Charles Brandin Owens no idea. Not a pro. Just an amateur working on my own. I had to add an extra microphone on my set up.
I’m gonna do a little research and see what I can find.
Will this work for a 2019 Honda Passport
Mike More probably but might be different harnesses. Check with axxes or crutchfield.
I have a 2019 ridgeline and I’m replacing head unit with a Sony, my question is, how do I retain/ wire to keep factory subwoofer? Any help would much appreciated.
Couldn’t tell you. My model didn’t have one.
If you haven't found out already, you will need to put in a 50-150watt aftermarket amp to power that.
Where the heck is the reverse light wire !! I can't use my camera yet !!
How to remove a gas conversion on Honda Ridgeline
How's it all held up after a year?
All good. No complaints!
Where did you end up running the mic?
Rich Beckman I have it mounted in front of fuel gage behind steering wheel.
@@TJhooker07753 Thank you!
Is this for iPhone?
I use my iPhone with it.
Hello, anyone who upgrade 2016 Honda Pilot LX radio? i know it looks same like ridglene has
What is the name for the USB adapter cable ?
nysprewell click on my wiring diagram in description. It is on it. Thanks for watching.
@@TJhooker07753 I finally got my Ridgeline and all the stuff I need to replace my stereo. However, crutchfield still has the Metra HD12 for the antenna listed. You said to use the HD11. Unfortunately I ordered the 12. Will the HD12 not work at all? thanks
The HD 12 has 2 wires, the HD 11 has one. Also the plugs are slightly different shapes, no I would say no. Funny thing, I verified this with Metra & told Crutchfield. They sent me the right one & I sent the wrong one back to them. You think they'd fix it.
No. Wrong connector. I just uploaded a pic that shows difference. See link in comments. Crutchfield was good about making the exchange for me. I verified it was wrong with Metra.
@@TJhooker07753 Thanks, I got the 11. Now my next question is where did you ground the black wires from the steering wheel control, the backup camera , and the 6V converter? You only have the blue/wht and blue/red listed. Thanks so much
This modification is one of the reasons why i would look for a lower trim model.. to customize
exactly what I did. paid about $400. Next level RL was about $3k more.
Any regrets on gettin the lower trim ?how has it held up for daily use.. . I'm looking for a used one .. most of them have high miles bit vary from 20k-22k with miles fromm 50k-75k ..are these worth it used
Guillermo Ortiz No regrets. I bought the 17 RTL from Honda. It was a certified preowned with 29,000 miles on it. It was only about a year and a half old when I bought it. It is my second Ridgeline, the first being a 2011. I have no regrets. I’ve been to Texas and to Maine And everywhere in between with it.
I find it to be more comfortable than the generation one, smoother, However The AC does not get as cold as the original. I also like the center consul in the original, I found the armrest to be more comfortable. WWith the RTL, the back window does not open, however I hardly ever used it anyway.
anybody did this with a Binize 10.1" head unit ?
I'm going to be attempting with the Eonon version very soon.......
Dude if you're going to show somebody how to do something don't block it with the back of your shirt. Thanks for the video there's still a lot of good information on it.
Ain’t worth it , believe me
The stereo it has is incredible, unless your a audiophile, I am not ! It’ll do my friends it’ll do!! Unless your a audiophile
@@Robraddd You are certainly entitled to your opinion, however to me it was worth it, which I documented it for anyone wanting to do it themselves. I did it myself and it is not difficult to do. The reason it is worth it to me is that the factory radio did not have navigation. I plug my iPhone into it now and use Apple Maps. My Ridgeline has been to 33 different states - the Eastern half of the country. Getting around is much easier with Apple Maps plus the large touch screen phone features. I also occassionly use Waze on it too. I also enjoy having a CD player which the factory radio did not include.
where did you buy the usb cable?
amazon. Part # in file I attached

does apple car play work with the factory usb then? or do you have to use the the head unit?
@@johnsitzes8383 apply car play works with the factory USB (located in the storage compartment between the seats) once you use the adapter to retain the usb.
