  • Sheldon and Shelby head out on their first chicken hunt of the year in early September. Sheldon has some issues with the Ruger 10/22 and Shelby is trying her luck with her new Crossman Optimus pellet gun. We managed to get a mixed bag of birds of ruffed grouse and spruce grouse. After the hunt, Sheldon shows you how he gets his chickens prepared for winter storage so they can enjoy fresh chicken all winter long.

    Shelby trying to shoot those chicken is literally the funniest attempt I’ve ever seen … that last chicken popping up its tail feathers and shaking his ass at her for those last couple of shots man it was hilarious!

      Hahaha ya it was a good show. That pellet gun was fairly accurate when I sighted it in, then she got the first bird with it and haven't been able to hit anything with it since lol

      Those grouse were moving so fast you couldn't even see it, dodging like neo 😂

  • @Oregon-airguns
    @Oregon-airguns Год назад +3

    PCP airguns are the way to go dude! They’re soo quiet that they don’t spook birds and surrounding areas and they’re deadly accurate.
    If you don’t like the idea of figuring out an air source, the hw97 brake barrel is one of the best in the business. Ps. Airguns are very pellet/slug fussy, but once you find right combination you can shoot dimes at 50 yards.

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  Год назад +2

      Ya the cheap Canadian tire pellet guns aren't the greatest for accuracy too lol I have a 50 cal airforce texan that I'm going to be using this upcoming spring on a bear hunt. Definitely a upgrade from a crossman.

    Enjoy your videos Sheldon. Something I do when I have a chicken flapping like that is grab them by the head do a quick circle flick with your wrist that will stop them from flapping.

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching Don. I stand on their head and pull them up by their feet basically doing the same thing. The flapping is just their nerves still alive in case someone reads these comments and doesn't know what's going on.

    I live in PEI, obviously we don't have the forests you guys do. No way I could ever take my time lining up shots like you, they're way to skittish! And we can't use rimfire on them either, only shotguns.

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  Год назад +1

      Really? We are allowed pellet guns, rimfire, shotgun, centerfire and bows for chickens. We're even allowed pellet guns for some big game animals as well as long as its 35 caliber or bigger.

    • @mattgchev
      @mattgchev Год назад +2

      @@BuickOutdoors Nope, only shotguns here. Not saying it doesn't happen. But the largest animal here is a coyote (though they get pretty big) so the largest caliber we can legally hunt with is a 22-250. I love hunting grouse, but it's a lot harder to get em here.

      @@BuickOutdoors Interesting! So they are a lot different than the ruffed grouse. Thanks for sharing!

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  Год назад +2

      @@wildmaine4341 absolutely. The dark meat isn't like a typical dark meat on a bird. It has more of a beefy taste to it. Some people say that it tastes like liver but I've never had that. I think you might get that if you cook it very low and slow and kind of boil it. In one of my videos from last year I made "steak" and eggs for breakfast with a spruce and it was amazing.

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  Год назад +1

      I use one once in a blue moon but I would much rather use my 22 or 17. No pellets and damaged meat to deal with and no wasted meat.

  • @gavingerrits5135
    @gavingerrits5135 Год назад +1

    Do you go for head shots or do body shots work to with the 22

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  Год назад +1

      I only go for head shots. I would never purposely shoot a chicken in the body. It doesn't kill them and it ruins the meat.

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  Год назад +1

      The pellet gun does okay if you hit them kind of in the lower neck area. It might not kill them right away but you're able to run up and grab them. Also the pellet gun doesn't destroy a bunch of meat.
