I absolutely love this film Ralph & Juliette played the characters wonderfully, there have been so many wuthering heights films made & this one beats them all. I am saddened by the recent loss of sinad O'Connor who narrated this film & when I hear Kate Bush singing wuthering heights, it's so hurting.

Ha! So much you know....so much you talk!!! This is one of the most wonderful songs I've ever heard and I admit that I feel shame for "discovering" it now that I'm already 40 and not earlier! To my opinion this SHOULD be added in a modern edition of the "Wuthering Heights" movie. We all like, love and admire the "professor" (R. Sakamoto) but that doesn't mean that Kate Bush is inferior to him nor her music. As a matter of fact you should be ashamed of being English and not liking her, and me....

I pretty much despised Heathcliff and Cathy when I read the book because Heathcliff was an abusive sociopath with no redeeming qualities and Catherine was a petty stuck up bitch, but it’s still one of those classic novels that I keep going back to wanting to reread passages from and rewatch adaptations of because a). Emilie Brontë is a fantastic writer b). Heathcliff and Cathy are such a horrifically toxic pair that are so hauntingly well-written. I think Ralph Fiennes and Juliet Bionche got the characters of Heathcliff and Cathy best. Their characters are horrible people with pretty much awful people with no redeeming qualities as individual characters or a couple, but you love to hate them because there is something so hauntingly mesmerizing of their horrific love and suffering.

Wow! Very nicely done. I do think this new version of Kate's song sounds better, because, as marvelous a composition as Wuthering Heights is, (grr that spellcheck..."withering" indeed) I could never get past Kate's squeaky voice in the older version. I just could not ascribe it to any good rationale.Even a ghost would not squeak, and at the time of her death, Cathy was 18 or 19 years old. While some girls that age do sound squeaky, she would not have; it would not have "fit" with her character.

Ok soooo I'm a guy and I've always liked this song ! I say that because well, It's about a love story that I would guess is more appealing to women? I will be honest here, admittedly I've never read the book nor seen the movie. Please don't get me wrong folks we all like a good love story but this is really not up my alley...About the song, I actually like both versions of the song (Pats cover is great ) however, Kate's original version is the one I heard first but as i say, i like them both for different reasons. So all that said can someone please tell me how Cathy died ? and did she she come back to haunt Heathcliff ? Was he a villian of some sort ? Perhaps I should read the Cliffs Notes ? Anyhow It's a really cool song ;)
Personally I wouldn't really call it a love story. It's a Gothic romance, but Gothic romances are famously unromantic - most of the love in them is warped to varying degrees, and to a fairly extreme one in Heathcliff and Cathy's case. Cathy dies from illness and exhaustion during pregnancy and childbirth exacerbated by a broken heart and what today we'd call mental illness, and she does haunt Heathcliff (which he asks her to on her deathbed), though it's hard to say how much of that is real and how much is Heathcliff's own damaged imagination. Most of the characters in Wuthering Heights are morally grey, but Heathcliff is a very unpleasant and cruel person (though perhaps wouldn't have been had he not been abused as a child by Cathy's brother, Hindley). It's an excellent book - I have an English degree and specialised in Gothic literature and it's one of my favourites, I highly recommend it.

It seems with all of Heathcliff's issues he wasn't uncapable of having feelings of love for Cathy or perhaps lust ? or both ? Looked pretty steamy between them to me ! Obviously you know from what you speak. I'm not a total stranger to literature ! when I was in 6th grade my English teacher had the class read Jane Eyre ...Thank you again Ma'am ;)
Very much so! I actually like Ralph Fiennes' performance the best, though looks-wise the only actor to play him who actually looks much like how he's described is James Howson - he's unfortunately been whitewashed in every other adaptation (though he isn't a very flattering representation).

Ha! So much you know....so much you talk!!! This is one of the most wonderful songs I've ever heard and I admit that I feel shame for "discovering" it now that I'm already 40 and not earlier! To my opinion this SHOULD be added in a modern edition of the "Wuthering Heights" movie. We all like, love and admire the "professor" (R. Sakamoto) but that doesn't mean that Kate Bush is inferior to him nor her music. As a matter of fact you should be ashamed of being English and not liking her, and me....

I pretty much despised Heathcliff and Cathy when I read the book because Heathcliff was an abusive sociopath with no redeeming qualities and Catherine was a petty stuck up bitch, but it’s still one of those classic novels that I keep going back to wanting to reread passages from and rewatch adaptations of because a). Emilie Brontë is a fantastic writer b). Heathcliff and Cathy are such a horrifically toxic pair that are so hauntingly well-written.
I think Ralph Fiennes and Juliet Bionche got the characters of Heathcliff and Cathy best. Their characters are horrible people with pretty much awful people with no redeeming qualities as individual characters or a couple, but you love to hate them because there is something so hauntingly mesmerizing of their horrific love and suffering.

Wow! Very nicely done. I do think this new version of Kate's song sounds better, because, as marvelous a composition as Wuthering Heights is, (grr that spellcheck..."withering" indeed) I could never get past Kate's squeaky voice in the older version. I just could not ascribe it to any good rationale.Even a ghost would not squeak, and at the time of her death, Cathy was 18 or 19 years old. While some girls that age do sound squeaky, she would not have; it would not have "fit" with her character.

Ok soooo I'm a guy and I've always liked this song ! I say that because well, It's about a love story that I would guess is more appealing to women? I will be honest here, admittedly I've never read the book nor seen the movie. Please don't get me wrong folks we all like a good love story but this is really not up my alley...About the song, I actually like both versions of the song (Pats cover is great ) however, Kate's original version is the one I heard first but as i say, i like them both for different reasons. So all that said can someone please tell me how Cathy died ? and did she she come back to haunt Heathcliff ? Was he a villian of some sort ? Perhaps I should read the Cliffs Notes ? Anyhow It's a really cool song ;)
Personally I wouldn't really call it a love story. It's a Gothic romance, but Gothic romances are famously unromantic - most of the love in them is warped to varying degrees, and to a fairly extreme one in Heathcliff and Cathy's case. Cathy dies from illness and exhaustion during pregnancy and childbirth exacerbated by a broken heart and what today we'd call mental illness, and she does haunt Heathcliff (which he asks her to on her deathbed), though it's hard to say how much of that is real and how much is Heathcliff's own damaged imagination. Most of the characters in Wuthering Heights are morally grey, but Heathcliff is a very unpleasant and cruel person (though perhaps wouldn't have been had he not been abused as a child by Cathy's brother, Hindley). It's an excellent book - I have an English degree and specialised in Gothic literature and it's one of my favourites, I highly recommend it.

It seems with all of Heathcliff's issues he wasn't uncapable of having feelings of love for Cathy or perhaps lust ? or both ? Looked pretty steamy between them to me ! Obviously you know from what you speak. I'm not a total stranger to literature ! when I was in 6th grade my English teacher had the class read Jane Eyre ...Thank you again Ma'am ;)

Very much so! I actually like Ralph Fiennes' performance the best, though looks-wise the only actor to play him who actually looks much like how he's described is James Howson - he's unfortunately been whitewashed in every other adaptation (though he isn't a very flattering representation).

Na versão de 1939 a Cathy quase morre ao sair desesperada debaixo da tempestade procurando e gritando por Heathcliff que partiu. Da até desespero essa cena! Essa de 1992 é forte nas não causa impacto. Apesar de que essa versão e muito emocionante tb.
