This version is brilliant. Does it improve the original debut? Who cares. Where does it not import “OOH it gets dark.” She nailed that first iteration. What I have problem with s her new rhythm on “come home.” It’s fine and beautiful, but it’s more calculated. It also sets up her vocal magic that she pulls in the new version. But it’s not the same. The new version evokes “the load out / stay” vibes. Either way, it’s brilliant. But I say, the original is the absolute best.

Definitely improved vocals but, generally speaking I like the guitar solo at the ending in the original version more (I say 'generally speaking' because their are days where I like the guitar on this version a bit more.. honestly, though they're pretty different I'd say I about love the guitar in both versions about equally) as well as the original doesn't feel quite as dated as this one imo (it's the reverb on the drums.. this is undeniably 80's whereas the original is kind of timeless, I guess? At 1:10 the part starts where this hits the absolute sweet spot.. A reloading bridge and the piano runs.. Incredible sublime. This song is a work of art.
Only Kate Bush can take a wild and raw #1 hit and re-record it to make it better. This version doesn't have the energy of a young 19 years old Kate, but it has the maturity and voice control she gained between the 8 years that passed between the 2 versions. I cannot decide which one is better; I think it's easier to stop asking silly questions and enjoy both.
It's incredible how much her voice bloomed between the eight years of the original and this redone version. Better highs, better lows, better control, and a far more pleasing tone. This version is in the original key but doesn't sound painfully high like the original version does. It only becomes apparent if you try to sing along with it that this is still super high lol
In 87' I was at a summer party, and the host's high school sweetheart (named Cathy as it happens) had dumped him earlier that day in advance of college so he was bombed by nightfall. The standard party sound was typically metal, so it was a shock to the system when this kid broke protocol and dropped this album onto the turntable. The piano started, and over a tide of laughter - and a few "what the fuck"s - he launched into a wobbly ballet choreographed by his misery and the booze in desperate effort to exorcize the demon. This was a metal crowd like I said, so his attempt to start the song over for an encore performance was immediately shut down. But I fell in love with Kate Bush there and then, becoming a dedicated fan for life. And I've always preferred this version over the original.

Her vocals and the guitar on the outro; hard to compliment perfection. At 3:55 she belts out some notes that I don't even know what they did. Speechless.
Did not expect to find a version as good as the old one, but both are beautiful in their respective ways. I am impressed! Kate really is something different.
@@pat2rome She didn't perform for decades live, and her voice was really good when she did Before the Dawn about 5 years ago. She gave up smoking a long time ago, I have read. I thought her voice at Before the Dawn was really good.
I heard this version on the radio yesterday and I noticed something different about it. Then I decided to google if there was another version of the song and I ended up here. This is incredible!!
I like how this one the vocals are much clearer but there’s something about the craziness and kinda hurried shrieking in the original that gives it something special. They’re both amazing though
I like to think that the original is Cathy's ghost who is young and deranged. There's some crazed glee in there, it's like a call. This is Catherine's soul calling Heathcliff to return to her. This is what Heathcliff's dreams sound like. It's like an echo of them. It's pure unadulterated feeling, like a child's wail. This version? I think it's Cathy singing in the last few months of her life while she's pregnant with Linton's child, mourning for her long lost childhood with Heathcliff and wanting to return to him knowing she can't and it's her won fault. She's this hopeless woman who's so consumed by yearning for her childhood love, she's stopped caring about all the consequences and rules that led her to forsake him and ruin her life in the first place. The obviously reflect on Kate Bush's own evolution, I think. It's obvious which version was performed first and which later in her life, and it has nothing to do with her tone difference. Personally, I prefer this version vocally (her wailing over the solo perfects this song) but I still can't chose. It really depends on the mood I'm in. They're both so brilliant in their own way.

Both versions of this song are masterpieces in their own right. I like to think that the original version of the song is Cathy's ghost, forever young and full of emotion. There's some crazed glee in there but also profound sadness; it's like a call. This is Catherine's soul calling Heathcliff to return to her. This is what Heathcliff's dreams sound like. It's like an echo of them. It's pure unadulterated feeling, like a child's wail. Like a child's laugh. This version? I think it's Cathy singing in the last few months of her life while she's pregnant with Linton's child, sick and dying, and instead of mourning for herself or the child she's never going to meet, she's mourning for her long lost childhood with Heathcliff. This is Catherine wanting to return to him no matter what, knowing it's doomed. She's this hopeless woman who's so consumed by yearning for her childhood love, she's stopped caring about all the consequences and rules that led her to forsake him and ruin her life in the first place. They obviously reflect on Kate Bush's own evolution as a person and as an artist. Personally, I prefer this version vocally (her wailing over the solo perfects this song) but I still can't chose. Not only is the best guitar solo IN THE WORLD extended but Kate's vocal riffs take it to another level altogether. Absolute musical perfection.
Her vocals and the guitar on the outro; hard to compliment perfection. At 3:55 she belts out some notes that I don't even know what they did. Speechless.
Her voice and the guitar are utter ecstasy in the last part for sure. She was screaming a G#5 from that part from the sounds of it
My favorite version of that wonderful song!!!
This song, each time I listen to it, I feel like time doesn't exists any more. I transcend time and space.
What a vocal development in a few years, beautiful!
Could listen to this over and over again, pure genius
Did not expect to find a version as good as the old one, but both are beautiful in their respective ways.
I am impressed! Kate really is something different.
I must be in the minority that prefers this mix. The vocals at the end over the guitar solo she absolutely epic. Great work 💯
The new vocal in itself is fantastic, but I like the production on the old one better.
No air, to much compression on everything.. The 1978 version is 10 times better mixed.
I wish she would redo it now in 2020.
Sadly her voice is weaker now than it was due to her smoking (plus the usual wear and tear of being a vocalist for decades).
@@pat2rome She didn't perform for decades live, and her voice was really good when she did Before the Dawn about 5 years ago. She gave up smoking a long time ago, I have read. I thought her voice at Before the Dawn was really good.
Naaah, modern version/arrangement would only destroy the beauty of the old ones. Hope I never hear it as a dance-pop song on the radio
She couldn't in this context and register. Age, voice change, etc. Plus, I don't think she has performed the song since the early 1980s.
its like the guy who takes a selfie every day for 20 years
kate bush records a new wuthering heights every 10 years
I heard this version on the radio yesterday and I noticed something different about it. Then I decided to google if there was another version of the song and I ended up here. This is incredible!!
It"s the best version! ❤
@@humbertosilva4211 It's really not.
Kate is beautiful, classy, and talented. No one beats her. Greatest female artist ever. Hands down.
WOW that scream it just sends chills down your body.
starting to become obsessed with this song! this version is better. the note she hits at 2.19 sends shivers down my spine...
2:19
This is absolutely stupendous. Gives me goosebumps.
This song in whatever version never gets old for me, 40+ years and it still gives me goosebumps and watery eyes.
I love the way the beautiful image of Kate slowly reveals itself as the track progresses! 🙂👍🙏🎶🇬🇧
From 3:09 the extra electric guitar, violin and vocal arrangements give the song a more powerful emotive feeling.
😎my name is John my honey!♧
mayena , your comment is so much opportuny and relevant
it's not often that the original is topped, but it happens here, stronger finish, and better lead guitar, an even better arrangement.
Only heard this version recently, gotta say I prefer it to the original. Love Kate's hysterical vocals towards the end
Ditto
Kate saw fit to take another run at this, that’s all I need to love it...an enduring masterpiece, no less.
Perfeito! 👋
Yo te comprendo porq fuímos hechos a SU IMAGEN Y SEMEJANZA TENEMOS ESA PARTE BUENA DE EL TAMBIÉN PERO C CAYÓ POR EL PECADO Y NO ES POR OBRA QUE HAGAMOS NOSOTROS SINO POR LA MARAVILLOSA OBRA EN LA CRUZ QUE HIZO NUESTRO SEÑOR JESUCRISTO BENDICIÓNES PARA TU VIDA AMÉN...
💩
Verdade
@@gildoricardo6398 sem duvida nenhuma
This is absolutely FANTASTIC. I love this song, the story, the incomparable interpretation. I love you, Mrs. Kate. ❤❤❤
A voz da Kate Bush interpretando Wuthering Heights é perfeita. Simplesmente lindaaaa!
It really depends on the mood I'm in. They're both so brilliant in their own way.
That is one hell of an amazing uh translation? breakdown? review? something like that
and I think you're absolutely right
The best female vocalist and one of the beautifulest song never play in the world. I love her
It is so good that you include the amazing guitar solo - intertwined with Kate's brilliant vocalizations - that so many recordings cut out. The best part of the song in my humble opinion.
That's only present in the re-recorded version (this one), the original version didn't have that lovely bit
The original outro was interesting but just seemed a bit long. With her vocalizations added, it now clearly belongs.
Magnificent. One of my favorite songs of all time. What a talent.
Call me crazy but I love the shrill voice of the first recording. Still I do love to hear the evolution of ones voice.
Moving. Haunting. Timeless. ❤️
Hands down one of the most beautiful and genius women of our times ❤
Love this version.
Oh my God i love this so much especially the screams at the end.💓💓
I love this song 😭
I just was reminded that the new age version is tones better than the basic one
Play this at my funeral..
🎶🎵
I have a feeling it's going to be a long time before we produce another artist as talented as this lady
I'm a S.Korean who is big fan of Kate Bush
This song is kind of addictive song
When i first came out to know about her
It was Running of that hill
But when i listend this song
I was yes....0i was really got shocked...in a very good way
At that time i listened only candy pop
But Kate Bush's song is different than others
This song is legend of the Legend
May God bless you Kate
Love from Seoul
I never understood one word till I heard this mix. I remember hearing this at 5 years of age on the radio in my dad's Mazda 929 which had a Japanese surround sound system 10 years before it was standard on any other Australian car.
Art Rock/Pop at its finest 🖤
Goosebumps. Stunning and perfect.
Absolutely love this and so proud to have grown up in the same street, always support my Welling girl x
