    As for me, this "Wuthering Heights" version is still the best. I can't imagine anyone else than Ralph Fiennes playing the role of Heathcliff. . He's so authentic, passionate.. just uncomparable :-)

    • @janesgems7
      @janesgems7 2 года назад

      I've seen several versions, but yes, Fiennes is by far and away the best....he IS Heathcliff.
      Whenever I hear the Cliff Richard song 'Be With Me Always' I think of him. If anyone could make a video for that song from this film, it would be cool.

    I just makes me cry when Heathcliff says:
    "I pray one prayer, I repeat it till my tongue stiffens. Catherine Earnshaw, may you not rest as long as I am living! You said I killed you, haunt me, then!... Be with me always, take any form, drive me mad, only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you!... I cannot live without my life. I cannot live without my soul.*
    Those words just says how heartbroken and love sick he was when Cathy die. Just powerful.

    • @janesgems7
      @janesgems7 Год назад +1

      That speech is so horrific at first...and then so desperately heartrending. In a way, he died when she did. Maybe it's hard to like Heathcliff.....but impossible not to pity him.

    "My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods. Time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees - my love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath - a source of little visible delight, but necessary." Beautiful X

    This was the first period drama that I'd watched at the tender age of 13, from then on I've become a period drama addict, reading them, watching them...everything. This has to be one of the best, a tragic love story that makes me cry each time. And of course, Ralph also makes it that little bit more special, a very unique actor!

      Love story? If you consider that Bronte's Heathcliff and Cathy are actually two unlikeable sociopaths with a destructive, dysfunctional relationship (not to be confused with love) and that they make most other people's lives in the book a living hell perhaps they haunt the moors for good reason in the end.

    Wuthering Heights conveys passion, love, yet exposes the beast which is hidden in each human being and pray it never comes to the surface, a story combining so much passion, love, and at the same time tragedy, melancholy emotion and fear.... A film I have to watch repeatedly over the years (rewatchable movie)..you could call it an addiction. It is a pioneer in its own right due to the excellent acting, production and obviously endless hard work, the scenery, lighting ..the whole concept of the film is breathtaking. It touches my heart each and everytime I watch it.

      Yeah, Heathcliff is pretty consistently portrayed to be a horrible person with no redeeming qualities throughout the entire novel, though I guess it’s implied he had a very teeny tiny soft spot in his heart for Hareton. He still abused Hareton terribly, too, but he was still a slightly less horrible father to Hareton than Hindley was, and he raised him.
      But yeah, this is not a love story. It’s a story about the cycle of abuse being perpetrated throughout two generations, and then finally being broken by Cathy Jr. and Hareton standing up to Heathcliff and surviving.
