oh snap (as the kids say) this is wonderful.. much better than the old way I see a new toy in my future.. all of my fly tying stuff I put in a box back in 1989 and it went into storage it is all old no new inventions in that box.. slowly I am filling up that box again as I get new and better to replace the old and slower (even though I am old and slower myself.. But then soon I will be in a box myself until then however!!!..) thanks Barry.. I am gonna have to look closer at some of these old vid's.. sweet!

Barry, I’ve had the original Magic Tool since it first hit the market; however, your insightful and creative uses of the device reach into the Twilight Zone of Fly-tying Imagination! You’ve done things with it that simply never crossed my mind. I’ll now have to revisit it and see how much more I can do with it myself. First, the cauterizing tool for the paraposts and now THIS! What other magic do you have waiting in the wing? KUDOS, my brother fly-tyer. WELL DONE, once again!

Barry I bought this system back when it first came out. Bought the set but not the Petitjean scissors, sorry the price is insane so I use a good quality Fiskars.
The system is handy, it was thought out by a man with a less deteriorated brain than i !
I have found it simpler to avoid using it though because it is tedious for me or rather was, but now maybe I will give it another shot and see if she has brought patience. Thank you for this reminder.
Its a great tool Kerry with 100s of uses, I use it all the time.
@@Thefeatherbender have you seen that other metal tool, the Swiss Multi Dubbing tool or something like that. Seems pretty good but again the price is pretty high, for Canada around $60!! Ouch! I think the multi tool I already have is good enough.

Nice tips! I’ve always seen you split your thread when making dubbing loops. Most other tyers will create a loop by doubling the thread and then inserting the material between the formed loop.
Can you please explain why you don’t do the latter method? Is it not more fragile if a fish bites into it? Are you trying to reduce bulk by doing the split thread method? Thank you.
When using 'light' material ie; CDC, Marabou, fine dubbing, you can split the thread but if you intend spinning heavy material, ie; deer hair, rabbit fur etc you have to double your thread and make a loop.

Nice to See other materials used than cdc on the tool. I would have liked to see more, like grizzly hackle or spey hackle on shrimp flies. But Nice to see Marabou, rabbit and deer hair used..

What are the dowels for that come with the magic tools?
The dowels are for wrapping tinsel around and then cutting along one of the dowel grooves, this will result in a row of tinsel all cut to the same length that you can mix with other material in the clip.
It's unfortunate that I can only like this video once..😃

Hi, you wrap tinsel, flash etc around them and then cut with a knife along one of the grooves and you get all the pieces the same length.

Has anyone tried the MP TT Bobbin? is it really that much better for tying? how does it handle 30d GSP? I'd get it myself, but the last time I bought an expensive bobbin was the Smhaen and its not great.

Well I got your book but it is not made up of U.S. flies. I would not recommend it to any one.
Thank you very much, if you use a dubbing loop tool, is it better to use one that holds the tread apart and pinch with the fingers or use when that tightens when you pull down. I seem to be losing a lot of fibers transferring from the clip to the thread. thanks again !
Hi RJF, Its a common problem but easy to solve. If you are using a dubbing spinner that has two hooks that holds the thread open, when you place your magic clip loaded with material into your dubbing loop, place the clip right in between the loop so the loop is over the plastic clip NOT the material!!! Now with your left hand, just below the clip squeeze the dubbing loop tight between your finger and thumb and pull gently down, lightning the loop around the clip, while doing this slide your clip out so the material is in the loop and release the clip, while retaining tension on the loop with your left hand roll the dubbing loop in-between your finger and thumb, this will spin the loop enough to hold the material in place while you spin your dubbing spinner tool with your right hand. Good luck!!
