There are all kinds of fly tying videos on RUclips that will show viewers how to tie flies that will catch fish. These videos are different. These flies are different. The maker's eye and hands are different, concerned with a level of detail and composition that is beyond. It's art. Thanks for the beautiful videos and allowing us to watch.
Very kind words indeed, thank you.
I've made lots of extended bodied flies, but have never seen this method. Really nice. I will be adding some of these to my collection. Thanks for posting!!
First class. This is* stunning Barry, hands down thee best detached body method I’ve watched
Thanks Junior.
Man I wish I knew this tutorial back in 2015 when I was in New Jersey still, I've since moved to the philippines but absolutely love fly tying and fishing...wonderful video!!!
Have to agree with prior comments, Barry. This is a very innovative technique. I’ve been tying for many decades and I find a lesson in each of your vids. Very generous of you to share.
If a seasoned tier like you has a lot of respect for Barry it shows the how close the tying and appreciative the community is. We learn from you all the time. Thank you.
Most excellent, Barry!
Very nice Barry! Thanks for sharing! Hank
This is the best way of making the tails I've seen this will help me with both mayfly and daddy's thanks again for a stunning video
Thanks Matt, let me know how you get on with it!
Excellent tutorial Barry many thanks.
Hi Dave, thanks glad you liked it, more coming soon!
Just doing Mayflys now Barry. I'll certainly be doing this. Superb!
Good Simon, they work a treat!

Hi Paul, good and I hope that you get to use them before its too late!
Always amazing! 👍👌🏻👏
Thanks Rodolfo.
It's a great work of art
Thank you!
Very good tutorial. Very informative. I will store that for future reference. Thank you. Tight lines🐜🪰🦗!!!!!
Good luck with it!
Absolutely stunning fly.. Stunning... I was wondering if I could order some of the final finished fly from u?
This is amazing.
Thank you.
Super cool Barry, I have not seen an extended body prepared in this manner, good learning. You would benefit from a Extended reach Matarelli Whip Finisher for core tools. I use Mini Tiemco, STD. & Extended Reach Whip Finishers depending on application, and happy with all three.
Thanks Larry, I have sooooo many whip finish tools and I have only used the one I was given by Frank Matarelli in 1994, its just what you are used to using I guess.
use a bit of chapstick to get the closed cell foam to slide onto the needle easier. This is closed cell foam. Open cell foam is what is used in old mattress toppers. It loses air from all the internal chambers when pressed upon whereas this foam does not.
Thanks
Thank you for the excellent instruction. You have certainly made it look easy!
Glad you like them James.
That ist brilliant tying, mate. Caught lots of trout on this fly!
Thanks Bernd, good to know!
Awesome!!!!
Outstanding.
Why thank you Malcom.
Second common tonight. But I had to you are an absolute artist.
Thanks John.

Cool!
Hi Barry - love the video! Where can I find a packaging foam like this? Having trouble finding an open cell foam similar to the one you demonstrate here. Thanks!
Hi Owen, I got mine from a box with pears in it, from an Asian green grocers.
Best body technic
Thanks Serfish.
Well that’s just neat.
That's amazing. Even though I'm brand new at this, I'm going to give it a try. How do you attach the tail to the hook?
Thanks Carl, you can see here, its another fly but same technique. ruclips.net/video/xWu_Y7hmnMI/видео.html Good luck!
How in the world can this video have dislikes??? Really nice work
Thanks Jonas.
Brilliant thanks Barry what size do we need to make the foam,
What ever size you need the one I show is on a size 8 hook.
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you.
Thanks.

Many thanks Maxim!
Can you please tell me where to get your tube pin tool please ? Grest video and well explained concisely. B
Thank you, It's just an upholsterers needle that you can buy in a sewing shop.
Can you send me a link please to the video of you tying it onto a hook and completing the fly. I can’t find it. Thank you. Great ideas. Love your work
Not sure I have made one, but it's very simple, look at the video with the extended mayfly body.
Nice
Thanks!
We learn from you.
Great
Thanks!
Thank you.
Great extended body! How thick is the open cell foam? Thank you
Hi Jonathan, thanks. The foam is a kind of packaging foam that is about 5 mm thick.
Thank you!
make it simple stunning
Thank you Margaret.
how long is the 5mm thick open cell foam ... about 1/2 " or ? thanks!
Hi Thomas, you make it as long as the natural that you want to imitate, but normally 2-3 cm long.
Can you tell me about the rotary vise you are using? Where can I get one?
ruclips.net/video/x9WskBbooaU/видео.html You can get one on Marc's website.
Would love to try this but seems impossible to find the foam you are using. Any clue as what to google? I live in Sweden but can order internationally i guess. Great video!
Hi Gustav, you can find the foam, its used for packaging fruit and veg at the Asia butikk or as packaging in electrical goods.
@@Thefeatherbender Thanks alot. Ill try that!
Thanks.
what feather do you use
Mallard Flank.
👍👍👍
You mentioned using open cell foam and why not closed cell foam?
Closed cell foam is too tight you need the open cell for this pattern.
If you are having problems with your tippet twisting, you are using too fine a tippet it has to be thicker!
so could you explain the needle device please
Hi John, It's just the Tube fly attachment on my vice.
No pardon!
Amen. That’s sick.
Thanks Mark.
Hei!
Ok. Tusen takk👍🏼😊
You forgot to whip finish your whip finish after whip finishing your whip finish :)
Beautiful work.
Yes I did! Thank you!
