Black people are the main ones who say this to every black girl or guy who talks proper. I hear it all the time from my own family and random black customers I talk to sometimes. "You talk white" "Stop talking white" "Why do you sound so white?" I'm 100% black but I have naturally long and fine hair and I have light brown eyes, ever since I was in elementary school I was always picked on for my features and how I talk, by people of my own race. They'd ask if I was mixed and I say no I'm black then they'd pick on me and call me a wanna be or that my hair is suppose to be short and nappy and I'm not supposed to talk like this or that. I get more compliments from other races than I do my own. It's sad, black people do this the most to each other. That needs to stop more than anything
well go to north korea and see how they treat you since you love kpop smh😩😬
just to let u know not all black girls hair is nappy I am black and my hair is soft and curly and I know other black girls with the same hairtype as me and the r black it all depends on were ur from and ur hairtype cab change other time sorry I just get annoyed when people ask me why don't you wear weeve isn't ur hair difficult to handle black girls have different hairtypes just like white people don't all have the same hairtype
Walter Cloud except k pop comes from South Korea
Same here. Apparently, because I talk proper I have an accent too.
as a dark skin black girl who was/is super into books & alternative music I got it from everyone in school. some non-black ppl acted like I was some exception to the rule of blackness, like I deserved a pat on the back for being more "white". when it came from some black people it was always a "you act/talk white" and I'd question what they categorized as "white" and they'd make themselves look foolish in the end. For you it was mostly black ppl for the poet it was mostly w white/nonblack ppl. your experience is not the golden rule of how people act so you can't come thru like "actually its like this..." and try to hush her perspective or anyone elses perspective. Your frustrations are valid though, it's a special type of annoyance and hurt that comes from black people doing it to you, for me it was mainly bc I hate seeing black ppl get held up in white supremace ideology, bc it holds them back from their potential.
Why do you Americans associate races to accents or ways of speaking? It's not about races it's about where and who you're raised with.
+Bea Rodriguez I was just thinking to myself, "how can you act or speak a color???" LOL! I'm with you on this one.
If you are not black thing you do not understand what it means to be black in America we are not all one and we are now treated as one or two white woman I can understand how you may feel that all people are equal but that's not how colored people sale or at lease not the ones with common sense and I'm not being racist when I say this but this video is not for you.
I'm mixed, Donika, my mother is black, and we all speak a perfectly correct English.
+Bea Rodriguez Where and who you were raised with often has much to do with race in America.
+Bea Rodriguez Where and who you were raised with often has much to do with race in America.
Wow! Amazing women, this was so powerful each word gave me chills.
+Mirna Esperanza -you know what else would give you the chills? running outside in a bikini on a 10 degree day lol..im bored..
+ElPocho DelMundo 010
+Mirna Esperanza .... Good American English is good American English.
Being educated and speaking proper English is not just for some. I get the same garbage.
B Goode I feel good when I hear a black person speak good American English. It does NOT need to be college level English, but good enough to not distract the listener.
It's NOT talking White. It's called speaking with proper grammar.
Charles Kuckel well tell that to the stereotypes who told her that. That is what shes saying when she says she pronounces her words correctly
Charles Kuckel Exactly!!
that's what she's saying
Charles Kuckel that's the point
Preach.
"Talking white" has NOTHING to do with being "well-spoken" or educated or using "proper English." God, I hate when people believe that. Talking white is about mimicking the accents and nuances that white people in America generally use. Talking white is using the tired Valley Girl lisp. Talking white is speaking in a higher, nasal tone of uptight white people.
People who think that "talking white" is about being "well-spoken" or "educated" give white people too much credit, because the average white person does not sound "well-spoken" or "educated." MOST people do not use Standard American English. Most white people speak in broken English. Anyone who knows the rules of Standard American English can easily observe this.
BTW, the black girl in this video does not "talk white."
Maximus Desimus Race has everything to do with how you speak. I'm not talking about grammar. I'm talking about accents and cadences, lilts and inflections. You should read this book called Spoken Soul: The Story of Black English by John & Russell Rickford. It'll give you a more in depth answer than I can at the moment. I don't have the time to condense everything, but language has always been colored by race. Ignorant people just don't know or don't want to accept it. However, I find it ironic that you reject the idea of "talking white" yet you accept her being a "typical black girl."
*****
"Black" in terms of this discussion means "African-American" or "Black American" or "Afro-American"... whichever you prefer. Blacks overseas don't count.
My point went right over your head. And no race doesn't have anything to do with speech go to the UK go to Germany go to any other nation with black populations and i can tell you listing to them you would not be able to know whether the person was white or black speaking if they were born and raised in that country by parents who were born and raised in that country
There is no such thing as a typical black girl every single person is a individual
Maximus Desimus No, it didn't. You have no point. You just refuted what I wrote.
Jesus christ how does she memorise that whole thing and say it so fast it's crazy, she's better than most rappers and her words actually mean something!
Tyler Dhoore poem say what comes to your mind
If she wrote she owns it in her mind and heart so much easier to remember.
Jk
That should be "you're". She's not reading it from a screen, she's looking at different parts of the audience. It's not that hard to memorise four minutes worth of ttext you wrote yourself.
+Rowdy Snail990 oh shush, even if what you said were true, I've seen many recite such without a screen. soo...
There are a lot of stupid people in the comment section.
This woman right here, is the truth.
+olexia07 Foolish people are everywhere. They always come running because the truth terrifies them.
+olexia07 She is, is she? And why is that? See your whole ''argument'' is bullshit. Where is the fucking inequality? You live in a country with a black president. You live in country where whites are actively discriminated against, through affirmative action.
So please spare us the fucking plantation narrative.
+olexia07 You are 100% correct my dear
this must be your first time on RUclips lol
Hmmmmm should I? Na not worth it
There was this one guy in my class and he had the nerve to ask me "Why don't you talk the way you're suppose to?" (he meant why I don't use words like ain't) I looked at him. Looked him in the eye and said "Why don't you keep your grades up like you're suppose to... Because the last time I checked YOU had the mind of a 1st grader" and he never talked to me after that.
Alexandra Perriere Ironically, “Ain’t” was used by the higher classes until they realized lower classes used it. It wasn’t officially taken out of the English language until the mid *Eighteen Hundreds.*
Bully!!
Yaaaassss girl
Alexandra Perriere that’s right, make him take several seats👏🏽👏🏽
Yes girl put him in his place
She's very beautiful. I agree a lot of people ask me why I "talk white" like I didn't know you could talk a color. What because I speak properly and use correct grammar I'm white?? They say I act white so annoying such a stereotype.
I wanna know how to speak purple and turquoise
+araminta Williams please subscribe to my channel..
+Xavier Jones okay
+Super EVA haha!
I hear WAY more black people say that than white, calling each other Oreos and coconuts for acting or talking "white". White people will say that you're "well spoken". Let's be honest, most of the black community doesn't articulate English the way it's supposed to be. I don't know why people get so offended by this, it's blatantly obvious.
All I see is a beautiful talent educated woman that has respect for herself
She was so inspiring. This is all so true, I hope she keeps going.
will that just made u a racist urself and a stereotype person
Autumn Pipher what made her a racists
Dont u mean what made her a racist?, sorry I had to read ur comment twice because it seemed incorrect , lol but also I could be very much wrong and it is the autocorrect
Autumn Pipher yeah sorry
Autumn Pipher I mean what made
Everytime I hear someone tell me “you talk white” the first thing that comes to mind is this amazing video. Because I was raised and taught to speak and carry myself in a certain manner how does that automatically make me white?? I just feel as though people of color should take every advantage of educational opportunities, knowing that our ancestors fought for what we take for granted everyday.
Just Quinniece Don’t refer to yourselves- you minorities- as “People of Color.” It serves only to divide the country.
Chris Wedemann Don’t tell us what or what not to refer to ourselves as , thanks. Telling someone that they “talk white” also serves to divide the country, and so do many other terms, so what’s your point?
Simply Quinn I can relate so much with this! Thank you for commenting this!
I don't think they mean you act white but usually they make fun of white people for talking to proper in a way. but since black people use slang an crap. it's different then what people label blacks.
Simply Quinn PREACH same here
She doesnt sound white....she sounds educated in history and honesty.
Very beautiful and very intelligent is a high quality in a human being.
Man or woman.....white or black and everyone in between...never forget ur history.
So intergration did.'nt work
frank rodriguez what's sad is that I have received criticism as she has, for talking White, so to speak. And I received this from black people...my people. It's a shame that we can't even lift ourselves up, but put ourselves down.
as a white person I can clearly say, nothing she talks can make her less black. but it is joyful to listen to her.
it all depends on creating a relationship in society, work, culture, neighborhood. and beneath that, it depends on mutual acceptance of blackness and whiteness, now when these terms and notions have been constructed already through history. we may have some conflicts, but we'll have to accept each other. should be understood as the principle of modern humanity. global issues are difficult enough. hell can break loose anytime for anyone.
Johannesburg777 there is no such thing. Stop saying that.
Speaking good english isn't talking white
neovxr what do you mean by your first statement.. she didn't say she wants to be less black and being white doesn't give an edge.
I'm not sure what you meant there. I still have no idea why race matters in things.
I don't pronounce any of my words right, oops, guess I'm purple
Lauren McLachlan lmao
not to be racist or anything, but you're green
lmaoo
😂
Dude,You're green 😂
Preach! She is amazing👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
👏🏾👏🏾
It’s not like this in Canada. We still have a lot of work to do here. It starts with our education system. Amazing woman. Skin colour irrelevant. Her spirit is awake!
Alexa Don people say me and my dad are like white people
Alexa Don yea
I thought u said peach
I want her to be my counselor at school
Brea Shenae she can be my principal maybe even my writing teacher
Same. I really want her as my guidance counselor
She doesn't sound "white" to me at all, she sounds like a very intelligent and well spoken BLACK woman.......#OPENYOURMIND
Magic9053 YAAASS GURL
She sounds like a black woman because that's what she IS, and that's a COMPLIMENT
How can someone speak a color, please tell me how.
Magic9053 AMEN
Magic9053 I totally agree
she is a eloquent speaker, which has absolutely nothing to do with her skin, but her level of education.
Her “level of education”. Why do we think that it takes someone with a Masters or a PhD to sound this way. As soon as I learned how to speak my parents taught me how to speak correctly. My education broadened my vocabulary, but it was my mother who received the first compliment for teaching me how to speak proper.
you have some sever anger issues towards bettering yourself.
Remote View so it’s never okay to agree with white people? I’m sorry, but that’s retarded
Amen
She went off!
Dopy , Heck yeah she did. I was like whoa calm down lady.
Jaime Lopez typical😬😒
Dopy it's called spoken word and that's how it is done.
Wonderful Beautiful , I did not know that. Thank you for letting me know 👍😀
Jaime Lopez are you being real or are you mocking me
This is amazing and this literally made me gets chills down my back and arms
Same wtf
Omg same
She doesn't talk 'white' hell caucasian people don't even talk that well. She SPEAKS GOOD ENGLISH. So what does she do for a living??
agreed
Just because you speak well doesn't really mean you should be 'so proud' of it. Just get a good life.
She can be whatever she wants. If her being proud bothers you than that is your issue. Nobody has to be anything for anyone else, how she talks has nothing to do with you and your feelings. When you grow up you will then understand that what others think does not matter, because nobody is truly thinking of you anyway.
Darin b she speaks English well *
Ok you agree
I'm Latina and am always told that I speak "White". They don't understand how offensive it is. Just because one speaks with proper grammar and etiquette does not mean they speak or are trying to be White. I'm a proud Latina and wouldn't want to be anything else.
That's true but Latin for itself is not a race
Dana B. Story of my life. I was in an uber once and the driver told me that he's not surprised that we're headed to Orange County since I speak "like a white girl." He thought I was from one of the richer parts like "laguna beach or something." Not exactly.
Mayra Guerrero. Everyone thinks I'm White because I'm pale and my name isn't Latina. And when I open my mouth, my race is confirmed for them. But when I tell them I'm Latina they doubt that I speak Spanish because they think I'm trying to be White. It's insulting. Latinos can be educated too.
Mexicans are considered predominately part of the white race. Many do not want to be associated as indigenous (Mongoloid), or European (Caucasian), Even though that is mostly what makes up being Mexican. They tried to invent the term Mestizo for this but it never caught on.
That being said, "Talking white" is a pretty ignorant term to use, since this America and one's dialect and diction merely is a product of where one is from and if they respect themselves enough to speak as though they paid attention in school.
So in all technicality, The Mexican "race" would be a mix of the Caucasian and Mongoloid races. Talk how you want to. Don't let people tell you how you talk.
Proud Latina?!
Shes low key rapping
Spoken poetry 👌🏽👌🏽
Dama Ito It's called "spoken word". Time to brush up on "black" culture.
Sunflower I dont need to brush up on any culture. I don't give a shit.
Dama Ito 😂😂

passion angel she’s drop dead gorgeous! And not because she looks like my daughter!! She’s so well spoken and I love listening to her soothing style of emoting
Lynn Tomaino 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
passion angel what did she do? The same bs they all speak?
Bike Tred ??
That was amazing. I have goosebumps. Inspiring. She should run for elected office
she is not the average black girl.
thats pure irony.
Educational system and the whole world works a lot to make average black girls ten thousand times below her in all ways. specially music and media.
Byron Friday you r a racist; probably a trump supporter
I'm white, for me this girl is right...People will always hate no matter skin color, sexual orientation,nationality...we must keep remind each other not to hate and make a difference...In my country people are so judgemental they didn't exept black people, homosexuality, not even others nationality....so this is good messages and it should spread all around the world...We are all equal, respect each other, love each other...peace...
the word ''hate'' was not stated, but implied and expressed in the vehemence of the delivery and in the final statement....in fact, all over the content. I am not sure it was a positive message. I do get the message, but it needs some finessing (not sure if that's a word, but there it is)......more subtlety....oh, and clarity
I didn't get her message like that at all....In my humble opinion she is tired of assuming that if you are black you can't speak propely and generalizing things like that....I don't see hate message or anything...She didn't insult anyone only state what bothers her, that is insulting to her,to them...to people who are supposed to be equal in this world. And I can understand that...Question is can you...?
How do you talk white? Its not like I'm talking blue or purple. Now, i see some people think im acting retarded, yes I actually know what people mean when they say "talk white" its just stupid how people refer to talking using a *color*
Lance Chafin Slang isn't talking like an idiot, it's an actual form of language.
PolarizedAAstrid I know right and i love your profile pic , so cute |-/ jish and ty
Have you been reading the forest fic fren?
I think he may have been referring to "Ebonics"...inner-city black-speak.
I know something of what she says because I am black yet sound white. Especially on the telephone. More than once I've listened to people, thinking they are speaking with a white fellow, casually trashing blacks.
Oh gosh how I wish I can pronounce or speak good English like this🤔🙈
Natasha Kizzy It takes a little practice. Try recording yourself. Listen to the recording, and try enunciating differently than before.
Rinse, wash, repeat. Until it sounds the way you like it.
Kaylin Alexis Not at all. This advice goes not only for learning how to speak effectively, but also for voice acting and writing.
Natasha Kizzy Why couldn't you, if you can read, write, text, listen to others speak properly p, then you can to.. Good lord..I wish I had a good job, well then get off your butt and keeping applying every hour, every day until you get one. My goodness, that's silly to act so ignorant, or is there a real medical reason you can't speak? If you can speak at all, you can speak well with effort & practice unless your lazy.
Kaylin Alexis What tradition do you practice?
Kaylin Alexis That's not negative at all... If there is not a medical reason, then with practice and listening, she can..its equal to some wish they had a job or certain job, you need to not stop until you get it..That's my motto, from the time I was of single digit age.. That's not negative, to stress to others as I have for myself and my children, Not to be lazy, to do what is necessary to achieve your goals, you can be self taught on many things if you can't go out and learn it. Don't wish, or want, get off you butt and get busy to get it. its not being lazy, its studying & listening. Please don't instruct my advice, or feel you need to decide that other then having a hand out, working hard is negative. Please I feel I'm correct. no more then I would correct your advise to someone that doesn't know how to achieve something. Please I'm requesting you stay in your lane, and feel free to offer positive suggestions too. However, not to me.
Stereotypes are so stupid. This poem was amazing and so true.
There was only one person stereotyping here. It was her. What a totally disgusting display of self limitation bolstered by fantasy. People can't see the obvious here. This is why America is screwed.
exactly. +quitwastinmytime
quitwastinmytime this is something that spot of people even myself have experienced it and you can't speak on it if you haven't experienced it. it's a very annoying thing to be told 24/7 that doesn't even make sense.
asseater007 f. Op
same it always happens to me like my sister always be like stop acting and I'm like I'm not acting white this is exactly how I talk and act and this is how im gonna be
Τhis was beautiful and performed incredibly!
yea for speaking English... good job!
+nicholas gibson you are a dumb ass the English language is the only dialect that was created from stealing meanings of words from other dialects so there is no such thing as correct English or proper grammar because all of this s*** is made up
go and take a nap dude
IIDtogo
i got chills
we need more black girls that are like this.
we need less racism...
+aimhigh What we need is change.
id say because ignorance and hate isnt constructive.
dont shut anyone up, fascists do that.
you want ignorance then you're decision, carry on making a fool out of yourself. otherwise you should shut the fuck up because you're doing a disservice to humanity, seeing as evolution is bs, there is one Race of humans. Reason or get ready to get smashed by reason. dont be a facist pig.
Alfred Miranda we need more people like this
*Who's just been inspired?* 🙋🏽♀️
Astro Awesomeness 🙋🏾♀️
She is not talking white, she is talking educated. This woman won't have a hard time getting a job.
geddon81
She will if the HR interviewer or the hiring manager feels threatened by her. It’s a double edged sword. People don’t like to hire their future replacement or boss.
geddon81
She will if the HR interviewer or the hiring manager feels threatened by her. Her attributes can be a double edged sword. Also, people don’t like to hire their future replacement or boss.
geddon81 Actually, you'd be surprised how your intelligence can be used against you in the job hunt process.
geddon81 she will if they dont like dark skinned black people. Sorry thats still the way it is.
geddon81,
Who would hire anyone with that attitude?
This gave me goosebumps......
same
samee
veinte goosebumps
+wilson hill And negative and mean words are a reflection of your personal hate.Dont hate what you dont understand. And P.S a loser is someone who talks s*** behind a screen but knows damn hes wrong.
LMAO @ that brother
people tell me I speak white all the time because I speak proper and it's so annoying
Same!! And it's always my family. The worst part is they say it in a degrading tone.
Xonmice same
People tell you that you speak white, or do they tell you that you speak well? Who tells you this? I can honestly say that I have never witnessed a white person outside of television tell a black person they speak 'white'. I HAVE, however, seen black folks tell accuse other black folks of talking 'white', as though speaking eloquently makes them less 'black'.
Robert hill I agree
People tell me I speak white, white and black people.
Say that again?....Dope!!!!!!
My grandbaby speaks proper grammar as well some say she speaks just like a white girl but it's very cute insulation to us for people to say that because so many white people where we're from don't speak correct grammar
I got picked on and bullied in school for "speaking White". Now I take it as a compliment. That's another way of saying I speak Standard American English.
Veronica Moore It's also a way of saying you shouldn't be able to speak standard American English because you are black.
You not talking White. You are talking RIGHT. Remember first Humanity started in Africa, when the White men has NON.
how do you speak like a color?
Jeon Jungkook IKR
she did explain it
yOU GUYS ARE EVERYWHERE I SWEAR
Jeon Jungkook I was so happy wen I saw ur neme
some people ask why I talk white too
It's the 'class system' that's the problem, if you try to better yourself you are accused of not sticking to your roots or thinking you are better than your peers, often it's the people you grew up with that are your harshest critics.
Celebrities like the Kardashians who think it's 'cool' to look, talk or act black, that hold up a colour pallet and think if you match the right shade it's alright to use the N word or talk about being gangster, it's these people that are glamorising ghetto without ever having to live in the realities of it.
Being in the 'lower classes' or being poor is not a badge of honour. It's a hard way to live, wanting to get out of that life does not mean you want to be or act white, wanting to better yourself does not mean you want to change who you are.
You are not defined by your circumstances.
+yazmac Interesting comment. As a white man, I've had similar thoughts about racial politics, but you've expressed it well.
Like crabs in a basket.
So that means the millions of poor who don't survive have failed?
Being poor is not an honour, you can be poor and have honourable qualities such as kindness or generosity but being poor itself is no reason to be held in esteem, but don't let that make anyone think It's a reason to be dishonoured or be shown a lack of esteem either.
It is what it is, you have no choice over where you are born or who your family is and that's the same if you are born affluent or in a slum, it is what you do with what you are given, what you make of yourself that earns your that right.
true
yazmac - some people can't grasp that.
I’m white but I come from a northern part of England where the accents aren’t as well spoken as people think English people do. You can’t talk a colour, it depends where you are brought up and how everyone talks around you
Yeah America is very damaged
Thank you. I forgot about that. I can say the same about parts of the U.S.; eg. the south vs. 'northerners'.'
Y’all kill me with the but “oh every race has their stereotypes” when it comes to the black race talking about theirs. She never once said no other race have their problems but she is black and can only speak for her problems as a black woman. Like damn let her have her moment
The fact that they're okay with races having their stereotypes makes their stereotype a racist paradigm which is their own. The more they talk the more they prove our points and how stupid they are. Just call them a dumb bitch and call it a day.
They're too dumb to understand the poem.
Girl. You must be in my head. I just commented the same thing. They won't let us have our moment! It's so pathetic, smh.
danny jewell I might make that move then 😂
The way I see it, she's educated and based on your dialogue, you're uneducated. You use the word 'stereotypes' and I use the word 'statistics'. I don't hear her screaming injustice. She's using the opportunities given to all of us. Quit wallowing in self pity and make something of yourself.
That was amazing and performed flawlessly.
AGREED
cause black girls know to how argue
to how? truth though
America has a real race issue. The fact she has to do a poem like this. I mean it's 2016 people, America is stuck in the 90s in many ways. I've never been to America and I'd love to for music and entertainment. but life seems too cray there. chill out
Wow, you seem so clueless.
we do and we dont, the problem here is the sheep that believe everything they readand the damn fucking media they love that divide and conquer shit, they love police shootings or minorities killing someone other than their own race.
hell,AMERICA is stuck in the 1930's in some ways.
Sweden Switzerland Panama Denmark Germany.....
If you stir up racial issues and devide the masses you lower their innitiative to revolt and protest against their government. It is basic mass manipulation tactics like they were used by Churchill, Roosevelt and Hitler. Actually Hitler copied it from Churchill he admired the subtleness of Churchill to manipulate the masses.
As long as blacks protest against whites and police. As long as feminists protest against sexism and men. As long as democrats fight against republicans and vice versa. As long as the people fight eachother they will not be able to unite for a revolution against their incompetent, corrupt and warhungry leaders.
Her voice reminds me of Raven from that's so raven and idk why 🤷🤷
Kaelyn Colburn She sounds like her.
Gee maybe it’s because the sound alike you fucking moron
@@crackuhsnackuh It's not that deep tf
My phone blew up in flames and i dont even own a galaxy note 7
Cheshire omg
Please Stop Yes my dear fellow
Cheshire gesh
Cheshire good one
😂😂😂
This is called 'spoken word' 'poetry in motion' or 'slam poetry' to be more specific for all of these nasty ugly comments... And I'm pretty sure that this isnt the only topic she speaks on... It was compelling enough for a talk show host to bring her on his show to demonstrate..
Yet the VERY thing she's speaking of is RIGHT HERE IN THIS COMMENT SECTION!!! So her point is VALID & TRUTH... Isnt it amusing how pple 'think' they're being smart and crafty by acting like an imbecile only to prove you to be correct... She's relaying a positive message and here comes all the racist... That's why those folks cant be taken seriously..
P.S.. Had to disable the comments everyone..I'm not here for the B.S.. This was getting under 'their' skin..OH WELL😕
I'm not even black but this made me so emotional. kudos to her for speaking up and being so eloquent and real about the black female community.
This would be an incredible rap
This is really inspirational. This woman's speech was amazing.
harry bailey: Yes and I know exactly how she feels.
harry bailey I might be dumb but I don't get the point of this
harry bailey shut up yuppie!
I going to write a yuppie poem about you now , words.
Mark my yuppie words !
What you sound like , doesn't matter , it's what you say .
not realy...i allways laugh when i hear a black person with a british accent complaining white people...lol
gotohell gotohell Ever been to Trinidad ?
"pussy money weed is all a nigga need" sounds quite empowering and educational.
no sorry ..never been there..
gotohell gotohell Their 90% black and speak with a British accent but they talk so fast it's hard to understand .
She doesn't sound white at all. When did "white" equate to being poised?
ALL THE SOUNDS she just grunted came from a white land. she sounds white. she is not grunting out TWI or Mandarin is she?
Since like forever. They invented the fucking language she is speaking.
Uncertain boy , cinnamonstar808 what? White people didn't invent language. That sounds dumb.
And just because you speak English PROPERLY doesn't make you sound "white". Because speaking the same language while making errors, ignorant people would never say that you're speaking "white" unless you sound like you make sense. When you don't speak properly, they'll day nothing, you do then they'll say
"Oh wow. You're articulate. You sound white." See? Makes absolutely no sense.
Michaella Blemur this paragraph makes no sense. And I didn't say white people invented language itself I said they invented a language which is English. If you deny this we really can't converse.
Uncertain boy of course they did "invent" English but that's not the issue here. It's just that, when you're black they expect you to speak differently, so speakingin a proper manner, you are said to be speaking like a white person. That's what we're talking about.
I do not think this girl speaks like a white person I think she speakes with correct grammar the way an educated lady would speak To me she is very smart educated well plus She can hold her own. And i would not call her a girl I think lady is more correct way of saying it I am white male have met lots of black ladys yes there is the thug talk whites have it to but what seperates her and other people is the education we all need in our speaking thank you
Amen!
Being African, I see it all the time on the Internet - "talking black" or "talking white." And then I listen to the people around me - my friends. My family. My neighbours. And then I don't hear any Amercan slang or any sort of American accent. All I hear is perfect English in a deep Ghanaian accent. what are we talking? African? Ghanaian? Black? White?
*American
+Nanaesly Neon Come to London and hear most people of Caribbean ( particularly Jamaican ) speak. Very few can enunciate their words or " wax loquacious ". Most are not in the least articulate or cogent so no wonder one builds up a stereotypical image. That does NOT mean EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF A RACE has the same traits or idiosyncrasies...
+Isleofskye it's called patois, it's a second language to most jamaicans, relax. please stop generalizing/stereotyping my people.
+orane brown Exactly
+Isleofskye I think it all boils down to education. When a person is well educated they speak with a command of the language as well as an expanded vocabulary and know how to use it. Have a discussion with an uneducated person and you'll be aware of the fact in a matter of seconds!
im half mexican, quarter white, and quarter japanese. i haaate when people, and even friends, say i "act" or "talk" white, and one has even said im not mexican because of that. that shit gets under my skin. i AM mexican. i love being mixed. theres no way a mexican acts or talks. or any race for that matter.
kiwi kawa I’m mixed too👏👏
I am 1/2 Pawnee, 1/4 Cherokee, 1/4 Japanese.I have had people tell me I talk white. I say to them. I sound like myself, and you sound like a uneducated idiot. My girlfriend is Romanian.
I'm full Mexican and I hate it whenever people just try to assume my race. And say you don't look Mexican, Latina, Hispanic enough, like I'm sorry what am I exactly supposed to look like, your general stereotype 😑
kiwi kawa I’m half white, and half Malaysian. ❤️
My friends would always call me Mex-Asian, but I'm 100% Mexican. The only reason they called me that at all was because I liked math and programming. I laughed back then, but looking back on it now, it sounds as if they were implying I can't be Mexican and good at STEM.
This is why they removed his show from the air. "Too" strong, too real, too deep. Keep doin you Arsenio. And to the queen poetess...I salute you, my sister. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👌👍👆✊✊✊✊👏👏👏👏👏👑👑👑
+BatiYah Yisrael Thank God we still have YT
+BatiYah Yisrael They canceled it because of low ratings... The rating dropped by about half
+Donovan Thompson exactly. I can't imagine that angry, entitled, racism from black people sells well outside the black community. You might get a few white liberals with guilty consciences but no one really wants to hear rich black people complain about how "oppressed" they are in 2016.
+John Doe You clearly haven't read a history book. slavery in Africa doesn't and never will equate to the shit white people put them through and still go through. Is this what they teach you in America?
***** don't waste your time, I won't be reading all that. the ignorance in your first comment ruined it for me
When people say ignorant phrases based on stereotypes that just puts us as a society back 200 years😒😒😒
I’m not even a girl and have always been told that I talk white since I was teenager. I thought it was wrong or that a statement meant that I was being fake, and because many actually accused me of being an Uncle Tom. I was embarrassed about that drive in me but I was taught and raised that to be understood, you must enunciate. This way if they don’t like you they at least understood your vernacular.
Speaking proper English vs. being called an Uncle Tom are two totally different things. I think you have some deeper issues to work through on another channel. Malcolm X spoke proper English, but he wasn't an Uncle Tom. You are usually called an Uncle Tome because of your views, not your speech. Minister Farrakhan speaks proper English, but I've never heard anyone call him an Uncle Tom.
it's called "smart shaming". plz study the article at rappler. same thing.
I'm black and get that as well, however I found a clever way to deal with those who make comments like that. I'll respond with, "oh I don't sound like a black man? What does a black man sound like? Oh you mean like Will Smith, and Morgan Freeman right. Or you mean like Malcome X or Colin Powell then. Or maybe like Barrack Obama who was said to be the most well spoken man in America. Or maybe you mean like all the black nasa astronauts. And then I make a serious face and say, or maybe like Martin Luther king Jr. You know, the African American who had a dream for his people and this country. At this point they are always embarrassed. Some turn and walk away quickly, some apologize. I tell them I am a product of Mr Kings dreams, and they shouldn't make statements like that. And that I sound american, period. And Ebonics is not a language, not even a 2nd language. It's garbage street slang for the uneducated. And i walk away.
Huh?
You're *not* talking White..
You're just not talking poor.
Damn Spell Check..
If I wasn't actually unsure as to the spelling of some words.
As soon as I watched this I knew there was hope for us black girls!
Awesome. I just wish they wouldn't have edited her. To me that's like blurring out a Van Gogh.
Josh Young this isn't her poem
why does that matter? that's like saying this museum didn't paint this lol. its still a work of art.
yeah it would've rhymed.
In society we have rules. Obey the rules.
👏👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤
why can't everyone be like that. now a days, people's language is so poor
white supremacy the reason...Im a proffesor. There are plenty of well spoken ppl.but black ppl are mis represented in hollywood..
spike lee holiewood
did you ketch all zee pokemon ass ketchup
nothing is wrong with speaking "ebonics" (aka AAVE or African American Vernacular English) it's one of the many different dialects of english. you only think it's "uneducated" and "poor" because it comes from black people's mouths and not yours.
btw, im talking about the spoiled nowadays kids that smoke weed and think about having sex at a young age😐. they have their education and still choose to talk ghetto._____.
I had to share video and this every time I see it again it gives me chills. She hits every point on how people expect that because your black, your expected not to speak good English since good English is seen by some as "the white man's token." The saddest thing is that we black people also apply this stereotype on each other.
jesus christ calm down
speak well
Nafisa's Pearlz
Must be hard being a Black, Muslim woman. May Allah be with you, Ramadan Kareem!
Nafisa's Pearlz meanwhile you just spelt you're as your, and most Americans can't spell or speak English very well at all
Woah do you realize how an average good black girl speaks? That is where the stereotype comes from.
This is the story of my life. Amen to that speech!!!
+shojogrl Yep
I'm Hispanic and I had to educate my family. I taught them that speaking proper English is a sign of a good education and NOT tied to ethnicity. You don't have be rich or white to be educated and clean.
+B Goode i think you missed her point
+shojogrl builled in high school for it. If I here "you bougie" I will blow a b*tch head off LOL
+B Goode Preach!!!! That's what wrong with this American culture, the thing if you have a hmble source of employment (like housekeeper, mechanic, etc) you cannot be educated and you must smell like trash and don't keep your home clean!!! That's happened to me all the time, American men think that I'm special, like some say "You are in another level", just because O smell good (daily showers), I don't use the same clothes 2 days in a row and I iron my clothes. Also keep my hair well coiffed and I use makeup to work. For Hispanic people this is basic personal hygiene.
😍😍😍 Having been called a “white girl” all of my life because I spoke “right”... Just about every other word, I felt as if she was expressing how I’ve felt for years... Thank you! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I relate to that as well. It's terrible that people just will not act right. 🙄😔💔
The people she was talking about were not average. They stood up and went above and beyond to bring change. There is nothing average about that.
Right and it's done and over with. Let's move forward.
Do you go through stereotypes everyday? Didn't think so.
Thats her point. She is trying to say that "black girls" can be like that too, in such a way that is average
no exaggerations here justin biebers latest video is waiting 4 youuuu!!!
I'm white and she's right....
word
I can relateeee it UPSETS ME, How do I talk like a white person no one speaks the same. I speak like myself, everyone speaks different.
_gensy_ Yes it gets on my nerves.
i have a white girl as my best friend. she doesn't speak properly worth shit. she sounds like a white person. if you were to speak on the phone with her you would know she was white 😑😑
SAAAAME
Everyone speaks DIFFERENTLY. Ah, the death of the adverb :-(
What people don't want to see here in the U.S.A is that black Americans chosen to have a black vernacular...the word sounds educated, but the speech does not. Blacks anywhere else speak the same as their country men. This is why Americans have so many problems on this subject. The separate but equal idea doesn't work either way.
Some black people in schools make fun of blacks who speak proper english. They say they are trying to act white. Like speaking proper english is being white. They discourage people from speaking in proper sentences. It's black people keeping other black people down. Ridiculing them if they speak proper english. Forcing them to speak slang or be teased, ridiculed, and rejected. Some black people speak so much slang they can't speak or write proper english. They don't know how to say it properly. It's hard to be taken seriously professionally if you use slang. If you go into a business meeting and speak a lot of slang you will look like an idiot. You may scare off the client because he either thinks you are not taking the job seriously enough or he can't understand you. If you speak slang it's hard for everyone to understand you because slang is always changing and not everyone speaks it. In order to be understood and to not appear uneducated you should avoid speaking slang as much as possible. It makes everyone look uneducated whether you are Spanish, white, black etc. Slang is an inarticulate and unintelligent way of communicating. Especially if you really want to be understood and taken seriously.
Her speech is amazing and she is so beautiful, and I also want to know where she got the outfit too. she is killing it✊🏽
"Talks white" what stupid nonsense! Who even says or thinks that? She's quite well spoken and educated, that is all.
It happens all the time with me. Hell my own family thinks and behaves the same way. It's like they don't know the difference between the two!
ursine121 unfortunately this talk comes from more blacks than whites. If a black person speaks proper English, I don't say shit about it. I act as I would all the time.
black ones..
ursine121, and she's also quite black and darkskinned as hell. Do you think Prince Harry would have chose her over Megahan Markle because she "talks educated"?? No , her skin is too dark , so white people dont care what she sounds like. they will still think the light/mixed person is better than she is.
Then you dont have to feel guilty. The fact that you altered her experience and then blamed black people just shows how obtuse you are.
I've never been so enchanted by a speech
you don't think there's something strange with multiple people telling you you sound like a certain race. Why is talking like white person considering being smart and intelligent. Its not just black people, if any person of color speaks with a certain sophistication a lot of people would say they sound white. Ever heard someone say why are trying you act black. As if all black people act the same. White people come from multiple different places around the world. So do Asians and Latins and Black people. So instead of putting up with the stereotype she chose to regect it and say something about it because yes, it bothers her as well as other people. There is no acting like another race.
Not really, it's about conforming to stereotypes. For example, if a black man were to speak in a sophisticated manner and not use slang or ebonics, as the stereotype suggests, others, not all but some and including other black people would say things like: 'Are you white', 'you sound like a white man' or something else along the lines of not being black. That happens in the real world, so maybe it is you who needs to experience it. It's about being who you want to be and not being tied down by a stereotype telling you this is who you should be. It really has very little to do with being a victim.
Specimen No.13 in fact I'm 13 and black someone said I talk white because I use and have better grammar than that person
I have goosebumps 😄
What has society come to, I'm a black young woman and people ask me why I talk white, why I act white. The question I always asked myself is what is white and black. It's a different shade of color on a person, it's not a stereo type. Why do people think that black women should act tough, bobbing there heads all the time, and ratchet. And white women are suppose to be all preppy, blonde, stupid, instagram famous, and STARBUCKS. No it's not like that. I've been made fun of because I act "white". They call me an Oreo, and tell me to act more like my race. But I don't care because I act the way I am and it's not white or black it's how I am because those two races should not have those kind of stereo types, yet any other race for that matter because it's just not whites and blacks.
+Raven Parks Holy crap! Are you kidding me. People tell you to talk more like your race? Good golly, are they crazy? That is so f***ing rude. It's like, what is talking your race. People can be so disgusting. I like that you just walk over such nonsense and continue to be yourself :)
When white ppl say something like your talking or acting white it's because most black ppl that we meet in high school and middle school speak with slang or Ebonics and slur there words and just all.around talk and act ghetto it's not a thing of disrespect that's just the way it is the majority of black girls and dudes I've meet talk like that in florida so when white ppl hear a black chick talk properly it's so unfamiliar to us that we say ur talking white it's not our fault that the majority of black ppl are ghetto it is what it is not trying to offend everybody but I can see how ya would be but w/e that's a white person perspective.
49jubilee
The Black Panthers were promoting that, as I can remember. I though it was a good idea that they were reclaiming their power over their lives. But it turns out that it wasn't what the movement was about.
49jubilee
I think you are right. As I can remember, I was very young at the time. Seems like now days, no one wants to be educated. I wish I could go back to school.
+Raven Parks Amen.
Who else can stop replaying

I ca-FUCK!!
RXNDX 123 I LITERALLY CAN'T
this was so empowering to me
thank you Ernestine Johnson
People also call me a white. It’s very annoying because just because I talk a certain way doesn’t mean I don’t act my color according to my sisters
Princess Elle’s World You can't act a color everyone is different minus the race people are just stupid and can debate over the dumbest things or anything they can start an argument About... Society is officially ruined lol!
I don't know about that. I am black, but I dress that way I want; although some people accuse me of not dressing according to some 'black rule" along with "talking white." Sorry. I don't wear a uniform.
Bars
+Moneyminty Bars XD
+Moneyminty damn bruh
I love this! I wish more people could see this. My friend told me that I talk and eat like a white person, I still don't get how though? Is it because I speak proper English?
bye clueless losers...do chinese eat with knives and forks??? so yes ignoramus there is a such thing
You "talk and eat like a white person"!? How do you do that!? I'm pretty sure it's called "Paying Attention in Elementary School", and "Speaking English." You know, I GUESS I'm wrong, because black and white are languages now. Right!?
ikr I hate when people tell me that too like wtf
How do you eat like a black person? lol
that is sad but I had a friend that is black and she her words would be like this , u got 5 cent and I knowdest we white people wouod say it like this, do u have 5 cents and I'm not racist just speaking the truth most fat people I know speak like my black friend , u got 5 cent so if a black women says do u have 5 cents Society automatically says who talking like a white person it is messed up though I always believed when black people take like u got 5 cent its just their accent , I camt stand this would I love all color if thats what the world recognizes all color isnt that messed up but its tge world we live in
Damn, she a queen
Thank You🙏🏾
I remember when I was younger, I was told that I was talked white all the time. I still get some of it to this day. The last time I checked, white and black were colors. So how can one talk black or white? Speaking proper English isn't talking white. It's speaking clearly and like you have an education. Speaking ghetto slang is speaking slave lingo. I'm not a slave and I don't need to speak that way.
the reality is some people have not been able to get out of the heritage that was passed down to them from their slave ancestors.
the reality is some people have not been able to get out of the heritage that was passed down to them from their slave ancestors.
I couldn't possibly agree more!
I understand that completely. I have one parent living in 2016 mentally and one living in 1955 mentality.
YES! I totally agree sir. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and when my family and I relocated to Mississippi, I used to get teased and laughed at a lot because of how I talked. Still get a little bit today. But maybe it made whoever feel like inadequate or uncomfortable. Some people think that because you're new and from another place that you are trying to be better, but I was just being myself, talking like myself. It really shows ignorance on a person's part who can't except differences and individuality.
That just made me feel 100x better about myself because my family says that about me all the time... it makes me happy... really happy.
It's called speaking proper English, not "talking white."
Shes so beautiful and inspirational!😍 I hope in the future no one will be judged because there skin! This world will get better. everybody will be equal, and not judged by there appearance, but what sort of person they are. No matter what you look like, always be yourself. Don't let anyone stop you❤
close your eyes then judge people if you must judge at all.
When I was in America(US) some people asked me why I am talking and acting white😂? How do black people talk? I am from Germany.
Gurl i'm from Germany too
Don't listen to that delusional moron in the comments. Speaking proper English is speaking English, unless you're in the hood and then you get called a coconut for acting "white". Most of black culture in the US praises criminality and embracing "blackness", then people get offended for others pointing out the obvious reality of it because it sounds like an insult. Well, it should be. I will agree that America is sick, but it's sick because nobody can speak truth without being called some name or buzzword. How the hell are we supposed to fix any problems if pointing them out is offensive and therefore impossible to start a dialog about?
ernsthaft xD
Interessant.
I wonder
This is a great speach and im not racist but white women fall under stereo types too. Maybe not as bad as these but racial issues are a problem for every one
yea they do i agree i see it all the time..i wish all this nonsense just stop nobody better then the other..
I understand and respect your message, but that was just a very weak and ignorant analogy at the end, you should be more rational.
Like I said racism is a problem for everyone. Some people are more racist than others. And some are not racist at all. I personally believe that it needs to stop. Your color of your skin does not and should not give you a stereotype as to who you are. Also the police involved shootings and riots/protests need to stop. This is just my opinion; and everyone is entitled to their own but I think when it comes to these riots, the colored people are victimizing themselves way too much. When they disobey the law and act out of control they can get shot. White people get shot too they aren't the only ones. I do think that certain colored people are really really racist to whites and expect us not to fire back. We can't control what happened in the past with slavery. We need to get over this *end of rant* 😂
I wasn't replying to you I intended to reply to another comment, but you know with the update to the comments section it makes all comments public you reply to, but I agree with you I think there should be a balance.
Yes but she is black, so she wrote about her experiences of stereotyping. Not mentioning other stereotypes doesn't mean she thinks they're not real.
That's my future wife right there
She’s so beautiful and smart 😽❣️
Gave me the chills and brought tears to my eyes
"Gave me the chills and brought me into bursting in tears" bAM rhymes much better now 10\10
Shahaf Ze'evi that makes absolutely no sense wtf and btw the original comment was good enough without your trash comment making absolutely no sense
Shahaf Ze'evi time you for to take a third grade English class, my friend.
You are a window licker! Do march for BLM also?
I understand sister
Gives me shivers every time.
+Dacia Bell -you know what else would give you shivers? running around outdoors in a bikini on a 10 degree day lol..and i have to add that you have a very beautiful smile..
We as black people worry about this too much and this is why we can't move forward.
+Fred Fisher Because, it's much easier to blame someone else for your problems than take responsibility for your own life and make something out of it.
+Fred Fisher Makes sense...
Actually, I live in Japan. I have no idea what she's talking about.
She's just a person, a human being.
To me she's not any label word.
To me she's: 1. pretty, 2. smart, 3. interesting, 4. athletic looking, 5. fun, 6. has nice smile, 7. has a beautiful complexion, 8. looks nice
If I met her, I'd think about those things, because those things could make me happy if we talked together.
How could a label add to my life?
The way of thinking of the US sometimes is so strange.
I'd rather just be a human and try to make friends and have a fun time with everyone. Life's too short.
+cheerfulerik thank you,
Exactly
+No Libbies you hide behind a computer and your negative closed minded brain with a sad out look on life im so sorry for you i pray for people like you
I have this problem to...
this was amazing speech
lol im asian and i have ridiculously curly brown hair
sure you don't wanna start that serious talk with folks?
Selina Nguyen what does that have to do with the video… stop trying to sound relevant.
You are the stereotype.
lolll
u gotta be Phillipino then that means u got some nigga n you
Im of caribbean descent and there are many black who speak well so its actually amazing to me when people say a black person who speaks well is white. I feel like some ppl watch too much tv and take in the stereotypes instead of just talking with people and getting to know them.
It has also has to do with the culture of African Americans holding each other back with ideas like speaking English correctly instead their vernacular version and being educated in general is being an Uncle tom or trying to be white, not black enough etc... Latinos in general are more homogeneous culturally wise and our ethnic makeup falls under a second category behind patriotism, so a certain skin tone isn't associated to a certain behavior like in the united states due to the aftereffects of the one drop rule.
cinnamonstar808 im of cuban and french descent from Dominia (not Dominican Republic) i speak english spanish and almost french quite well (from what others have said. But you do have some that speak the street language (just like in every country/island no matter the language) in the country and then you have your business language spoken in the city . That's what i was referring to. Which Island u frm btw
G Booze ayyye Caribbean gang 😂
I am from Trinidad. It is a thing that goes beyond how one speaks. It encompasses how you act, the shows and music you like, etc. People sometimes say I am an oreo...black on the outside but with a white persona on the inside....like what is a white guy persona? It isn't said as a slur but just that you aren't a typical black guy. So it seems there are these stereotypes of how black people should be across the map. Sad thing is, the media tends to show the most stereotypical of black persons...especially channels like VH1 and BET.
Cylus O'Brady they just loop all blacks in together with the worst stereotypes of what they perceive a black american to be. But as soon as u let the island accent out.... "Wait a minute, u didnt tell me u were jamaican" (because Jamaica is the ONLY caribbean island lol)
If it'll make you feel any better I think you're an average black girl-you're wearing another persons hair on your head.
+gateway1965 no point arguing with people who is a man of foolishness rather than intellect
+Thai Defiant So...is that laugh meant to be your personal ego booster cause you may have natural hair? This isn't about you either you shallow vain so and so. DID YOU GET THE MESSAGE? Here's another one. Vanity is a deadly sin.

My comment wasn't aimed at you. It was actually in support of your initial post but know you turned captain save a h*e, real quick. Let her speak for herself, brother.

I got dis. I am my brothers keeper.
+Harrahshow It's her hair. She paid for it. Now, when you start paying for her hair, THEN it'll become your concern. Ok, you can run along and play now.
Thought this was Tiffany Haddish at a glance
I was very moved by her words because these stereotypes have fallen unto me because i talk proper and "carry myself better", and I never knew how to answer them but thanks to her i do 😘
It's the same for me. Every single day people say stuff like that to me because of how I speak and how I generally act. She's very inspirational that's for sure😄
why...because she speaks english?... wow you should get out of the jungle more .
nicholas gibson no its because she speaks more "proper" in some peoples opinion. So what's your problem 😐
well she speaks proper English which gives off the impression they paid attention in school, im glad you uses the word proper, at least in "" cos talking properly is not talking white, its talking properly
I always just told people that my speaking proper English, doesn't make me sound white and that by saying that it does is saying that blacks are incapable of doing so...just ignorant.
What is talking with colour?
Tell me which overly berserk, immature, but also slightly praised human made up the phrase of talking 'white' or 'black'? Tell me why the stereotype exists, why talking black includes "What's popping?" Or "Sis" and, why does talking white include being prim and proper when most "white talkers" I know sound like stuck up primadonnas. I know this may sound crazy and some people might hate me but excuse me when I say, that this stereotype is planted and not just for us black and white kids. Let us express ourselves, don't put on these lids. Of false hope, and dishonest safety. Saying if you talk white, you'll turn out like any Bree, Jessica or Emily. Or that if you talk black, you'll end up like that Latoya or Serenity. Now I'm here stating a fact, that some people may have to face, not just spew nonsense hate to save their face.
Inspired by this wonderful lady. (Imma use this as an essay don't tell nobody)
The Millie & Mira Show People in the US made that up. “You speak like a black person (ebonics) “ “You speak like a white person (super duper correct)” lol thats what it means
yes girl you slay she is right in EVERY SINGLE WAYYY!
mama didn't raise no fool!!
