The Fendertones perform California Girls for a charity event.
Recorded on October 16, 2004
Vocal charting done by Tony Rose, horns by Jim Verdeur.
Audio: 40 tracks using ProTools on a Mac G5
Mixed using ProTools on a Mac G5
Video: Recorded using 3 DVCams and 1 handicam.
The video was edited using Final Cut Pro.
The final video was assembled using Final Cut, Soundtrack Pro and Logic.
I'm happy that there's a young group of talented musicians keeping these songs alive for the next generation. They have worked hard to sound original. I love it. ❤️
Brian Wilson has given us a treasury of some of the best rock and roll ever written. Let's never forget him. He is a genius among men.
My god. It takes a dozen voices to re-create this live. Amazing and unforgettable.
In studio they layer what these guys do live. 16 tracks to 8 to 4 mixed down. Brian and his engineers were probably was using 30 plus recorded voice tracks.
It doesn't matter how many takes and overdubs. What matters is to have the creative mind to come up with those harmonies. Brian Wilson was a Genius @@DigitalMoose
The Fendertones are superb. By using numbers instead of Brian Wilson's genius studio techniques they can re-create the Beach Buys songs just brilliantly. Tribute bands are sometimes a bit naff but anybody that can re-create the BBs on a stage deserve an award.
Yes, notes, chords, words exact but totally without the originality and personality of the Beach Boys - just like any other copycats "Tribute Band". Awful.

Man I'd love to hear just every beach boys song redone by these guys. Amazing stuff.
There's so few BB tribute bands because the music is too complicated. It doesn't sound complicated, but it is. That's why so few garage bands ever have a BB set. Mr. Herder and company have nailed it.
well also its music from the 60s i know of no bandss that just do 60's music lots of them do 80's music though

You can't get more American than the Beach Boys music and the Fendertones do it proud!
They needed 12 guys to sound like the BBs because Brian overdubbed all of the vocals on their songs for a fuller sound. The Fendertones use multiple guys for each part to duplicate that vocal overdubbing on the soundtracks.

It's incredible to think that someone (Brian Wilson) had all this gorgeous music with it's intricate harmonies and instruments...in his head! What an incredible gift!

Brian is and was a modern day Mozart.

And Al Jardine. He helped write many songs with Brian. Brian came up with most of the music, as Al would help with most of the guitar surf sounds. Carl Wilson also helped write the lyrics with Brian on some songs, and would give musical input. But it was mostly Brian coming up with the weird, and interesting chord progressions, tempo changes, using instruments that have not been used in rock and roll before the BB's, as well as beautifully written lyrics, with Al's help more than anyone else's. But yes, it was 85% mostly Brian "The Musical Genius" Wilson.

Hey, I can listen to these guys for HOURS. And if you love good harmony singing, don't forget to listen to the Bee Gees. Start with Saturday Night Fever but don't stop there. Their Greatest Hits 2-CD set will take you back in time. I listen to it whenever I have a long drive ahead of me. Talk about great harmony! They're amazing too.

And here I am just discovering them in 2023. I feel cheated for missing out on the Fendertones for all of these years. I don’t see anything posted by them recently, so they must have split and moved on. But they are/were spectacular!
The great Yogi Berra once said, "It ain't over 'til it's over". And I suspect that if you took a poll, you would get a one hundred percent response in favor of the Fendertones persevering. Carry on, gentlemen. Please!
I saw the Beach Boys at the Fillmore in 1971 and at Winterland in 1973. I'd pay to see these guys live in a heartbeat.
Is there any possibility The Fendertones will perform in concert again. There music is feel good stuff that makes people sing and smile. There isn’t much of that anymore. I would travel anywhere in the world to hear the live.

Normally people are not usually interested in hearing exact covers of other artists music, however, not the case with the brilliance of The Beach Boys. The biggest compliment to Brian Wilson IS an authentic reproduction of his creations.

My dad was one of the recording engineers for the Wrecking Crew back in the early to mid 60's. Only once did I get to hang out with him when Sonny and Cher were recording their album. I actually got to sit in Cher's lap....
This 93 year old gent was rockin’ along with the Los Rio’s group and lovin’ it.
Wonderful to see these young artists having fun as their harmony honors the creators of some great music.

I grew up with the "Boys of summer" but truly enjoy the Fendertones for their tribute sounds. Great sounding songs.
Places me back in the 60's, during trips to the beach in the Netherlands. The tiki bar played The Beach Boys all day long.

I was a professional entertainer for 40 plus years, and a radio presenter as well, here in The UK, after I left The Royal Navy Band, as a multi instrumentalist. I sang lot's of these song's in my stage shows. I recorded over 8 albums, and 3 double albums. I JUST WISH I COULD DO.....ONE MORE SHOW! I am going to be 68 next birthday, IT A'NT GONNA HAPPEN! BUT! I have soooo many GREAT memories, video's of my shows, recorded albums, photo's, recordings of my radio shows.....NIGHT ALL!!!!

For me as a kid growing up in the 60s, THE quintessential Beach Boys song was California Girls. The imaging of it was tantalizing for a young lad filled with testosterone, but that was only the beginning. The otherworldly harmonies that Brian Wilson created were simply beyond compare. Even Paul McCartney of the Beatles said how much they admired and envied - and felt greatly challenged by - Brian's musical genius. And now, the Fendertones have emulated that 60s sound perfectly. They did not miss a beat... not even the smallest of nuances. This was a blast from the past and a breath of fresh air for me. Thanks!
I enjoyed these classics back in the day while on the cusp of puberty. What a soundtrack.

I've watched this 3 -4 times - these guys blow me away. And what a spirited tribute to BW and The BB's. It's like Mozart hits the beach. (and he probably would have had he lived a little longer - like three hundred years)

Easily the best Beach Boys appreciation band out there!!!! The detail in their arrangements are uncanny. Brian must know about these guys by now. I'm certain he is blown away! Too bad he couldn't hire these guys as his back-up band!! As much as I appreciate the Wondermints these guys are better. Love them!!!
It never ceases to amaze me that after playing possibly the most famous opening chords in the history of pop music, some in the crowd don't recognize the tune until after the vocal starts.
