For those of you wondering how long he (Malaysian Prisoner) was there, he claimed that "In 2002, I still needed an interpreter so I couldn't share my thoughts whenever I wanted". Towards the end he said that he was 10 months left and has spent 19 years. I'm happy for him, but Vietnam gives the death sentence for drug smugglers. Im surprised he got the life sentence

Death sentence have psychological effect, so that the other won’t do the same, also transport drug is the first step to give drug to user so it’s critical and death sentence is necessary

Usually people will bribe officers. Sometimes a slap on the wrist. It depends on the officer themselves.
Viet Nam is ruthless about trafficking drugs. Doing drugs is different. But a lot of tourists and locals have gotten away with smoking marijuana.
Would never recommend it bc you are pushing your luck.
