Benny is the definition of a LEGEND in snowboarding, the magic glue that keeps all the BS out and the Awesome in. Snowboarding is exponentially better with Benny in it. Thanks Bombhole!
Love you Benny! We've had some incredible sessions on the skateboard, snowboard and bike. Benny is tuned in. No one has better edge control on a snowboard and I've seen so many good snowboarders over the years. the dude is dialed, chime in if you ever seen him slam, I haven't. You were the first snowboarder I met when I moved here. You opened your stoke and arms to my motley crew and I forever love you for it. You are generous and it is amazing how a board or jacket would appear on my porch over the years when I needed it most. Those handouts were like bread to a starving man and look at us now, we made it brother!!! Literally you been a big brother to me, thanks. You blaze the path forward for all us over 50 guys still trying to get their shred on. For the younger listeners, the Gen X snowboarding journey is unique. So much of our roots are in skateboarding and punk rock. If you snowboarded in the late 80 and early 90s chances were that skateboarding brought you here. I didn't know another snowboarder that didn't skate for my first 10 years snowboarding. Gen X had to discover skating and snowboarding, it wasn't given to us, we had some scary older kids that took you in if you were lucky. It wasn't trendy, it truly was a counter culture lifestyle. Seriously kids, skaters and snowboarders were not cool and were not liked, hence the saying "It was better when you hated us" comes from.
I was a poster jockey for a concert venue in PC and Benny would let me post upcoming concert posters in the Orem shop. I was low on cash but he sold me some special edition Unions for whatever I could do at the time. I was staring down these bindings for a month and like to think he could read the body language. It’s funny I still remember this a decade later. Look good, ride good, next level was unlocked that season. Thank you for this nugget of banter!
It's hard to explain the gratitude I have for you Benny! I was just a UVSC (UVU) college student from Vegas trying to find my tribe in a college town during a pretty special time in the industry. You always made me feel like I was the most important person in the shop every time I stepped through the door. It was wild man. For reals. You and the shop became an anchor for me during that time of my life. Thank you. 🙏✨
Great great episode. Especially for all us retailers out there! Also going back to the “influencer” discussion I think it’s important for pro riders to remember that’s what pro riders have ALWAYS been. As much as you might not like the word and to get lumped in with some douche doing a dance in the street with a bottle of hair cream they were just sent. Any company in the history of snowboarding has always hired a team of pro riders for 1 main reason. To shred hard on their products and “influence” people to buy their products. Don’t be afraid to take ownership of that title in some shape or form because it’s only going to help the brands you represent, snowboarding in general, and yourself in the long run!
I'm one of those lifers cuz of Ben! Let nervous newbie to skateboarding come in and hang, remembered my name, gave us stickers etc... SO MANY good memories from the Orem Shop. Thank you Benny and Thank you Bomb Hole. LOVE THIS!
This one was so important!! skateboard and snowboard shop manager for 6 years in B.C Canada. the product knowledge meeting with reps are so important. the talks of in person knowledge hand to hand is so real. No more "40" inch stances !!!! local shops are so important
