  • With the engine removed and sitting on the work bench it’s time to tear it apart and see how bad the internal damage is.

    That loos like aluminum from the piston in the cylinder , that can be cleaned off with acid.

    Nice to see another guy willing to get his hands dirty. I should probably wear gloves but I hate them

      You are right we probably should wear gloves but I hate them too. If your hands aren’t dirty did you really even do anything?

    Great job with the vidioes and the tare down, How many km on the motor ? And do figure that the up side down in the creek is what caused your issues ?

      Thanks! Just over 5000km on the engine. And yes I’d definitely say that the upside down in the creek did it in. I’m thinking the cylinder still had water in it when we got it running to ride out. Probably washed the oil from the piston and bearing causing it to overheat.

    That bearing sounds like my old child support payments ?

    Hi great video. Not sure if
    You put the engine together by now but by any chance have you check the balance on your primary clutch? I know water would be bad but there has been many sleds submerged in lakes and they run perfectly fine afterwards. I am curious if your failure is related to clutch imbalance overtime loading the bearing and starting to spall, slight lost of centerline driving pistons wear. That is a pretty hefty bearing for just water failure as the root cause. If you check the balance and still within spec… then I buy the water been the root cause. Good luck!!!

      Hey thanks for the comment! Good point. I actually did check the clutch balance and it was well within spec. I’m thinking there was just enough water in the bottom end that it washed a bearing 😐

    Water make this problem?
    I had such case with my polaris.

    • @themediocregarage
      @themediocregarage  2 года назад

      Yes definitely caused by having submerged it in the creek and then running it immediately afterwards.

      Cylinder will install new or restored?

      I’m exchanging the cylinder for a restored one so I don’t have to wait for this one to be fixed.
