We just bought a ‘23 460 and LOVE it.
Re: 18” wheels: This platform was born as a military vehicle. That’s why it’s bulletproof and is modified and used by many off-roaders. They are foolish to criticize 18”, and even more foolish to think of taking anything larger off road.
Re: Mileage: We get 20-22 on the highway. When you take the very high resale value, you will eventually get a lot of the “guzzled” gas money back.
Get a ‘22 or ‘23 now, for their residual value should stay high. Why?…because the new generation ‘24 gets only 1 mpg better, but only offers the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) in a new electronic form in only select models. The tried and proven earlier KDSS is standard on all levels, ‘23 and older.
Don’t “zonk” too much here. Remember, the Japanese philosophy is to achieve perfection over time, not tack on every gizmo that every other competitor has every years. Knowing that ‘23 is the last year for the V8 and this whole generation, they aren’t going to change a bunch of mechanical stuff

In today's market, GX's a steal. High end RAV4 and highlanders are over 50K. Any decent domestic big SUV costs 80K at least. High 50Ks gets you V8+full time 4WD+KDSS+lexus quality.

@@slighce the new LX600 is somewhat of a design mess (especially the center console area), so I don't have high expectations for the next gen 2024-25 GX500. It'll probably get a rattley, small displacement turbo, despite ironically having it's name incremented to "500" over the 460 that refers to the current V8's capacity. The new GX will wind up being slightly more reliable than BMW or Mercedes but nowhere near the margin that it used to have. The biggest leg up for Lexus at that point is that their interiors are generally higher quality and wear much better than their German peers. Most BMW and Mercedes interiors look like shit in a few years- buttons wear off, steering wheels delaminate, seats crease and flake... list goes on.

This is the exact reason I bought this vehicle bc I loved riding the 4-Runner when I rented it but realized it didnt have the bells and whistles I was looking for. I’ve been in the wholesale car business for many years. Driven just about everything out there. There are many great alternatives to the GX. Especially if you like to trade every few years. Turbo engines have made great advancements for consumers who appreciate respectable fuel economy and better acceleration. Keep in mind the majority of these units will have more expensive maintenance costs over 70-80k miles.
But the GX has a build quality that is hard to replicate from most manufacturers. The drive, the interior feel, the way the doors close, the factory paint finish, the quality of the interior components etc are things most companies can’t replicate.
Like others have said resale value is great with these. Some of the best resale figures in the market consistently. Unlike several models that I’ve seen mentioned in the comments.
At the end of the day the beauty of the car market is all of the available options that we have. This current GX may not be what everyone is looking for. But I can assure you it’s a solid choice if you’re considering it for your next purchase.

I believe Lexus is coming out with GX550. GX460 will be done. Plenty used one will be available. This car is a tank and a pleasure to ride. I rode one with 254000 on the clock, rode like new. Lexus need to bring this same concept, BUT with inline 6 and 8 speed tranny with paddle shifter, if needed, using regular gas or hybrid. I will be inline to order one. I have to say, for around 63K new, regular model, good price for such a reliable truck. Lexus is killing the Germans, day after day.....period.

I still love this SUV. I'd like to see the steering wheel full leather and the front grill to be just a little smaller. I don't care for too many bells and whistles so I would love it. To me, it is like the 4-Runner...I don't want to see them mess it up with a redesign. Too afraid they would make it look like everything else on the road...shorter and rounded off...which kills the look of an SUV.

Not why everything thinks this is 4runner platform. It's not. It's a Land Cruiser Prado platform and has full-time 4x4 with a locking center diff. It's frankly better than the 4unner in every way.

Well, after looking at the RX350, Tahoe etc, it’s the GX460 for me. Taking delivery tomorrow. Trading our 2020 Nissan Murano Platinum AWD. The RX was disappointing . While the tech was newer, it felt..small….4 cylinder was whiny; felt every bump, as it seems they went more sporty. And I’m 6’4, 300. The Murano was much bigger inside than all of them, honestly. Been a great vehicle. The value ratio of the GX, and longevity, sold me. And that V8, even being somewhat underpowered and inefficient (yet long lasting). I actually like the way the rear door opens..and I’ll likely use the pop-open glass hatch way more..easy peasy, lemon squeasy. I had also considered the Audi G7 (can’t find), New Mazda (can’t stand the rear end and it’s brand new), the Honda Passport, and other luxury SUVs.
Just bought my wife the ‘24 Acura MDX w/Tech AWD, 3 weeks ago, because at almost 60 yrs old, what it has, is good enough, for both of us. Same with the Lexus GX Premium, and in both cases, great value, get longer warranties and some maintenance thrown in. And I can do follow up oil changes at a Honda dealership, and the GX at a Toyota store, unless a warranty-related concern pops up.
Your reviews helped, as well as actual test drives by me. Appreciate every single review, even if I’m not in the market. Kudos, and thanks.
