    Before I pitch a tent, I like to clean any debris out from where the tent floor will be. Sticks & stones and metal junk, etc are hard on the tent floor - and the camper. On my X-mid 1P, I peg down the corners of a long side. And lay the tent over to one side, leaving the sleeping area clear to be cleaned. The side edge of a trowel works nicely to scrape along the ground, collecting and moving debris. If the ground is uneven, I may scoop out a shallow hip hole for sleeping comfort.
    Then, I complete the set up.
    If the weather looks a bit threatening, I will rig a rainfly first, and set the tent up close to the fly, with one door sheltered in case it’s necessary to cook there in a rain.
    After my camp has been set up, I’ve been known to celebrate with a small shot of single malt. Sometimes.

    Popped this up while checking in on the 12 days of Christmas event - a magnificent display of generosity and the spirit of Christmas. I picked up the DROP XMID 2 and it is super easy to get it right, and just a great tent. There is a video out there that shows how to set up one of the short sides, then fold the opposite short side in half to find the middle of it. Pull that point out so it is equally tight to the stakes on the other side, set that middle point on the ground and pull open the two corners and stake them out. It comes our perfect each and every time. Glad to have found your channel and look forward to watching your adventures in the new year.

    Nicely done. I have been using the 2P for a couple of years. It's a great tent to carry and set up, and looking to pick up the 1P as it becomes more available.

      It seems like they are getting more orders in more regularly and Dan Durston is going to join us here on the channel for a livestream on Oct 26th to give us an update on all things Durston Gear. So keep an eye out for that.

    That's a great tent, I love mine. I'm also going to get the 2P to replace my Outdoor Vitals Fortius 2P which replaced my Big Agnes Copper Spur 2P.

    I just picked one up for my next Philmont Trek to replace my Copper Spur 1P. You may be able to keep the underside clean and dry when pitching in the rain or on wet ground by laying your pack in the middle of the pitch area and pitching the fly over top of your pack.

    Thanks for showing the inside attachment of mesh body to fly... for rainy setups. I just ordered the X-Mid 1 after seeing the price of the Pro $$$ version. I'm interested to see how small I can compress it down when packed. Have you tried this?

    Great video!! Thinking of going with this tent for my pct 2024 thru hike. Quick question what pillow setup do you have? Is that the Goosefeet Gear down pillow and if so what do you have it stuffed with? Thanks

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors
      @AndyParrishOutdoors  Год назад

      It is a goosefeet down pillow. But I've moved on from it. It is a great concept but it needed better execution. I find that apex synthetic fill works better and I like a fleece cover better too. I pair it with an inflatable pillow. So I built my own prototype . I'm really happy with it. It's definitely heavier but so much more comfortable for me personally...

    Thanks! I live in the Midwest. Classically, condensation occurs on the fly interiors of my tents. So when my X-mid arrives I will likely have to unclip the tent body each morning and re-clip at set-up (I also plan to get the ground sheet).
    Have you had any experience setting up in the rain? With the fly flat on the wet ground to start, are you able to take any precautions to keep the fly interior from being a wet and dirty, vegetation mess?
    This will never be an ideal situation, but I bet some backpackers have come up with some clever tips.

      The ground sheet will protect it from the ground when poles are removed

    I assume that the cordage at the peaks is to provide stability in windy conditions. Is that correct?

    I used this on a 5 day backpacking trip and I’m conflicted about it. Very finicky setup and very difficult to setup with the ground cloth and inner attached to the fly. It’s pretty much a tangled up mess setting it up that way. Also, for a 1p tent it takes up a TON of room. Probably more than most 2p tents. Not sure it’s worth the 1 pound reduction in weight vs my rei quarter dome. But it is well made and fits easily into my pack I’ll give it that.

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors
      @AndyParrishOutdoors  Год назад

      I definitely think it takes a bit to settle in with this tent versus something like the quarter dome. I will say that the setup gets quicker and easier and the livibility is outstanding on it. The footprint is larger, so I can see how it might not fit into tight spaces as easily. You just have to decide which characteristics are most important to you.

    What height do you need to set the trekking poles at?

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors
      @AndyParrishOutdoors  8 месяцев назад

      No need to measure...
      Per Dan:
      Basic Pitch:
      1) Stake out the rectangular base (i.e. stake one end, pull out a 3rd corner at 90 degrees, pull last corner taut).
      2) Inspect your rectangle to make sure it’s reasonably accurate (not skewed into a diamond). Adjust if needed.
      3) Tighten the corner tensioners to pull the base tight (this will limit the poles to the right height)
      4) Add the two poles and extend firmly until the fly is tight (poles will be handles up in the Pro series tents and tips up in the other models).

    Thanks for the video, get my 1P next year delivered to the UK, so it was nice to see a set up video. Where did you get the cover for your sleeping pad? I’ve been looking for one in the uk but they are hard to find and expensive.

    Guys you're not going to use this as a festival tent are you? Frame 1:20 got me scared a little bit. This tent is more in demand than a kilo of cocain at the moment and the last thing you need is drunken youngsters trip over it at night time. Great video by the way, I missed out on the last shipment because it's only for sale if you have a credit card but I'll definately get me one.

      No, but they do have concerts there every once in a while. We just needed a big wide open area to film... and you are not kidding about the demand. You may also want to tune in tomorrow night as we have Dan himself on the channel to talk about how he came up with the design and how they are doing on meeting the huge demand. ruclips.net/video/tHx8E_CvMkQ/видео.html
