    I put some aggressive tires on my Atlas and that sucker is pretty damn good offroad. I like that VW let's you shut off ATR and ESC. You turn off ESC in the settings menu on the infotainment system. One you turn that off it will do much better.

      What tyres have you put on your Atlas? I have falken wildpeaks all terrain on my Atlas.

      @@EngineAdventures I put Terrain Contact tires on from the VW store. They work fantastic in mud, rock and everything in-between. Also they are quiet on the highway.

    Great review. My wife has a 2020 Tiguan and I’m glad to know that sport mode is the best mode for rough spots. On the coast we frequent the beach and find the deep loose sand quickly strands anyone with 2 wheel drive. The 4motion system is a fantastic system for us and we never have an issue. We’ve used off-road mode until now!

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 года назад +1

      I haven't tested a Tiguan but I imagine the systems are similar, I'd say go play around with the different modes and see what works best!

      The best way to utilize VW's offroad mode is to also have the vehicle in tiptronic/manual mode. Keeping the transmission in 1st or second gear, depending on your traveling speed. I've gone snow wheeling and offroading in my 2018 Tiguan and have always had a blast!

    I happened to push Atlas to the limits. Sometimes I end up digging, winching, lifting and moving large rocks. But in the end, i've found it quite capable offroad.
    Atlas transmission has 21:1 maximum ratio. Gearbox has oil cooling. 4Motion provides enough torque to the rear, so tires become a limiting factor. The bottom is flat and covered. Lots of torque with V6.
    The downside is the large hood, blocking the view right in front of the front bumper.

      Thanks for sharing your experience! I doubt there are many people out there that use their Atlas like you.

    Great review!! So glad I came upon your channel. Had been looking for something like this for the Cross Sport. Subscribed!!

    I think it did ok. It’s not an off-road vehicle. But it seems it can handle situations that 99% of people will not ever ask of their crossovers.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 года назад +1

      That's exactly right, use sport mode when getting near its limits, but ultimately I don't see to many people talking this offroad. It's nice to know that it can handle some decent stuff if the occasion arises.

    Yes..good Haldex AWD ....I have tested in highway snow blizzard at 140kmph & never lost control💪💪

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  2 года назад

      It seems to be a good system, I'd say tires matter more for snow and ice than anything but a good AWD system helps a lot!

    Great off-road review! Much earlier than Saturday ;) Subscribing! I understand your point of going with the 3-row Atlas, but this def makes a strong case for someone who needs the space, not the 3rd row. Also, it doesn't hurt that it looks way better and is almost 150 lbs lighter :)

    To turn off the ASR, you go into menu. Go into settings. Go into ESC system and turn ASR off.

  • @Meachesp0820

    To turn traction control off, you have to go into the “car” button, then select the “setting icon” on the bottom right corner. At that point, you’ll wanna select the first option (ESC system) and select “ASR off”. Or at least that’s how I do it on my Cross Sport

    Great review man. Quick question-Did you floor it in offroad mode? I wonder if vw has updated offroad mode to be better now.

    Do you think that the 4cyl turbo model would have made it?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  2 месяца назад +1

      It might do better as it has more torque than the V6.

  • @SimonStrother

    Could you borrow a Touareg from someone and try this? Should be better seeing as how it has a transfer case.

    Can’t see how can do an accurate review without turning the traction control off, you probably could have figured that out in 5min.

      I definitely dropped the ball on that one. I'm curious if you've seen a more comprehensive off-road review on RUclips than this one. If so, what channel? It will help me get ideas on how to improve.

  • @christiana8820

    This is like hiking a mountain in leather soled dress shoes vs. hiking boots. WRONG tires!

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 года назад

      It's not the shoes, but the man that's in them that matter. Yes, tires can make a huge difference, but the hard line on the steep hill can be and has been climbed with vehicles on summer tires. Skip to about 19:00 in this video for a great example: ruclips.net/video/j5m0FkBqma4/видео.html

      @@EngineAdventures At 20 sec into the video you admit the same thing I am saying..... Get your story straight!

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 года назад

      Yup, tires can make a huge difference, but in my testing they don't matter as much as the vehicle's ability to transfer power to the wheels on the ground. With two tires essentially in the air, the vehicle has to have enough torque to transfer power to the wheels on the ground and climb a steep grade.

      I'm curious, what brought you to this video? This is the second similar comment I've had on this video this week. You're not wrong that I definitely missed this one, however have you seen a better off-road review of the Atlas Cross on RUclips? If so which channel was it on and what information did they provide that you missed here?
