Anything off her Tapestry album, but my fav of hers is You’ve Got a Friend with James Taylor on backup vocals. Carole wrote songs dating back to the 50s, a very talented lady. The most powerful line to me in the song is "I'll never learn to be just me first, by myself." I went out on my own in my early 20s, and it was such a time of discovery of who I was, and who I was to become. It was an invaluable time of becoming a full person, in charge of my own life.

      Hope I haven't been way off on how I've always interpreted the lyrics of this song ..but it always struck me as being on the sarcastic side, with the transparency and pain she's seen in so-called 'happy couples ' around her, yet her man seems to want push both of them to get into the same situation.. that's kinda what I get from it.

    • @tammeyj1958
      @tammeyj1958 4 года назад

      @@Dooklawz in the past people married because of obligation because that's all their family ever did was the repetition of the same act over and over again and it ends in misery because they felt pressured by their own parents etc. Today everything is completely different and everyone is still unhappy but we follow each other like sheep to the slaughter because of peer pressure and parental pressure. But for each one of those....there are at least half a dozen more on every album, that unless you've bought it at some point.....you've likely never even heard. 'Touched By The Sun' is one you could really appreciate. Or 'Libby'.....or 'Playing Possum'. 'Never Been Gone'.......'I've Got To Have You'.

She's the only artist who's had two charting albums competing with each other. In 1971, she won the Grammy award for record of the year (Anticipation), and Best New Artist. She's been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and she won the Oscar for the movie soundtrack, Working Girl. Let The River Run is a beautiful, powerful song. Some of her other big hits were "The Right Thing To Do", "Haven't Got Time for the Pain", "You Belong to Me", "It Keeps You Running" (Doobie Bros cover), "Mockingbird" a fun duet, & 60s remake w her then husband, James Taylor. Carly Simon is also a top notch singer/songwriter. She wrote and recorded some classic songs - all of which are sheer perfection. You might want to check out: "You're so Vain", "Night Owl," "Anticipation" and "Haven't Got Time for the Pain". Her albums are all mini-masterpieces unto themselves. If nothing else, her Greatest Hits would definately be worth having. Good music!

    She's unbelievably accomplished. She plays the piano (I'm always impressed with that talent), sings, writes her own songs, has scored movies, wrote an opera for which she won critical acclaim, and has also authored children's books. I've always loved this song in particular because it paints such a vivid picture (especially in the first verse). She's a born storyteller (as is James Taylor - it's easy to understand how they were once a couple.)

    What an incredible talent she was. She had a serious shyness that almost got in her rise to stardom. But like many greats she rose above it n made some awesome hits.

    That’s Art Garfunkel at the beginning on the left (from Simon & Garfunkel) and George Harrison on the right. I didn’t even see George Harrison at first because I was distracted by Art Garfunkel’s hair. 😂

    The bookend to this song would be "Coming Around Again", recorded in the 1980s. A good, but sad song.

    For contrast, try "Let The River Run"--- big, soaring song that won her an Oscar. And then pick up her biggest hits: "You're So Vain", "Anticipation", "Nobody Does It Better", and "Haven't Got Time For The Pain".
