Further information on Roman Clay can be seen on Portola Paints website

Roman Clay has a plaster like look with movement that has a cloudy appearance but it is completely smooth with no texture. However you can create texture if you like. Roman Clay has a lot of flexibility available by the applier.

Thats awesome ty for sharing your success
Thanks for watching!
This is the first video i have seen of yours, I immediately subscribed. you're underrated my friend and this is proof that youtube does not uplift the best work. This is pure cinema!
Wow. Thank you so so much. I really appreciate the comment.
I’m using Portola Roman Clay in my kitchen. I’m on the second coat and glad I found your video. Others I’ve watched make it look like it’s a breeze but it’s taken me hourssss and I’m still unsure if it I’m doing a good job 😅 your video gives me hope though so, thank you!
I’m glad it was helpful. If I do it again I would def paint the wall the color of Roman Clay before putting the clay on. I had to do so many layers.
Totally agree and I wish I did the first layer with a paint roller and focused on texture oh just the second coat!
It turned out so well, glad you stuck with it!
Thanks so much! You were so helpful during the whole process. Much appreciated!
I've been skimming my builder grade walls for months. lol. Can't wait to get started on the roman clay part of my remodel. Seriously great video. Fantastic editing.
Thank you so much. We actually didn’t initially skim coat everything because we thought it was too much work. Now we want to Roman clay everything so we need to go back and skim coat haha.
Sick! Nice work.
Thank you so much!
That’s amazing you are considering environmental conservation whilst maintaining amazing aesthetics!
Thank you so much for this video! I went to Portola paints a few days ago. My bathroom is being remodeled and this is what I’m going to do in there. I really appreciate the instructions. I was in a major car accident so I only can do this with my right arm. I’m dreading the pain! Haha.
Sorry to hear about the accident. Hopefully the job goes well. The results are amazing.
Thank you for posting - very helpful!
What did you use for sanding? Not sure if taking a power tool (circular sander) is too harsh? Did you do it manually with sanding paper by hand?
We used 220 grit sand paper. I think putting it on a sanding block on a pole is best. It doesn’t need a lot of sanding. Just bring some of the high spots down.
New subscriber here, everything looks amazing. You have impeccable taste! Can't wait to see everything when it's done.
Hey thanks so much for the support!!
You guys did a great job. I don't know if this differs from venetian plaster, but my first job was painting and light remodel stuff, and I still remember what doing venetian plaster was like back then. Pain in the forearms haha. It looks good!
Very similar to venitian plaster. The looks is a bit different and the final finish but def the same family! Thanks dude!
Awesome. Glad RUclips suggested your video! Subbing for sure
Thanks so much for the support!
Looks fantastic!
Thanks dude! You need to come see in person once this is all done.
Looks great! What color and brand did you use?
We used the color Patagonia by Portola Paints.
Is it matte finish? I am looking for something matte, ive used venetian before and they are very shiny. Also, is it porous? Venetian would look wet with the moisture, but it dries easily. We just bought another house and Im seriously looking at using Portola. Im glad I found your video!
@@Overeasy159 thanks so much for the comment. It’s matte. It would have a sheen if we used the protective coating but since the bathroom is not closed off and large I’m not too worried about moisture and opted to not use the coating. We also didn’t want to make it shiny haha.
@@Drewdoode thank you so much for your response! And your bathroom is perfection, beautiful.. great job!
@@Overeasy159 thanks so much!
Would you say the technique could be applied to microcement
I’m not sure as I’ve not researched. I think it might be similar.
Wow
Thanks!
How many coats did you end up having to do??
3 total. I think we could have gotten away with two if we primed the walls in the same color as the Roman clay.
Beautiful 😍
Thanks Yvette!!!
did you have to seal it because its in a bathroom?
When we called the manufacturer they told us we could seal or not seal it since the bathroom is larger and won’t get us much moisture on the walls. So we decided not to because we didn’t want the sheen.
Way to go especially while working a job too! I have never done this before and I am planning it for a van build, any pro tips you can offer? Love the non voc! Is the primer a regular paint primer (you know can get non voc in this too)? You recommend this brand over others?
I love this brand. I think the quality of the mix and consistency of color is great. We used regular primer but if I could go back I would have tinted the primer the same color as the Roman clay. Or used a primer/paint in the same color as the Roman clay. This would then require less coats of the clay. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@Drewdoode This is really helpful. Did you use the Portola regular primer? Gratitude to you!!!
@@laurelanderson-rostami109 We used Bull’s Eye 123 primer. I can’t recommend tinting the primer enough haha. Will speed it up so much.
@@Drewdoode Thank you so much! You are really helpful and I love your enthusiasm! I will tint the primer😊
1 thing I don’t like , the effects is not worth it , I rather use Venetian plaster , 2 coats done plus the effect is much better in my opinion,
Sounds good!!
Your opinion. I like the more suede like texture vs the more stone like finish of Venetian plaster 🤷♀️
