I really enjoyed this game, it was the closest we got to real Matrix (except the for the movies). I prefer this to Path of Neo. Sometimes the game was buggy but it was good either way.
This was a heavily played video game. Also, I think it was a very ambitious tie in. It’s not a retelling of Matrix: Reloaded, but like a side story parallel story of it. Where even there were unique filmed scenes for the game. Like what other licensed game would and will ever do that?
Exactly. I never got why some people wanted to just play through the same events as the movie as neo. Like, you already saw the movie, what's interesting about that. I loved what they did.
I remember reading an article in a game magazine at the time that said the developers specifically avoided the idea of playing as Neo, because he was super OP inside the Matrix and they didn't want the player to play as the guy who basically has godmode enabled by default and trivializes big threats like agents. They said they didn't feel like that would be fun, either to make or to play. Likewise, they avoided the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar because they felt like that would make players would compare to the movies too much. But they still wanted the tie in with the movie and for their game to be considered canon, so they went with lesser known characters that move around in the background of the movie but get the spotlight in the game. Whether you like that reasoning or not, that's why this game got made the way it did. Making Neo the playable character would have definitely helped sales a lot more, though. Neo is a bankable character. Niobe and Ghost are not.
1 of the best features of this game is the MSDOS inspired hacking menu which you can use to add cheats and debugs & even access a 1 v 1 multiplayer fighting game with various and unique characters. Absolutely changes how you can play the game.
Always had a lot of fun with this. Was genuinely surprised at the hatred it got on release. Maybe time has been kinder to it. Looking at it now, it was crazy how this was part of such a multimedia assault. We'll probably never see something like that again.
Fun fact, if you search cheats for this game there is a code that literally unlocks a vs mode where you and a friend can fight in various boss battles one person beign the boss and the other beign ghost or naiobe, but also there are like 3 fights exclusive to that mode, in one of them you can play as morpheus and agent smith and fight with a friend, such a fun mode and i didn't se anybody talking about it 😢
I remember staying at my grandparents place and playing this game and my grandfather kept calling it The Acrobatic Bunch. This game will forever be The Acrobatic Bunch to me.
I loved playing this game as a kid, used to play my own custom playlist in the background. Completed it for both PC and PS2, I remember seeing a LOT of people shit on this game. It isn’t bad, I had great memories with this game. Great upload as always.
One the best licensed games of all time, I don't know what reviewers were smoking back in the day claiming it was clunky and unresponsive etc but this game was and still is amazing. also World Record being your favourite Animatrix short is a bit odd as I've always viewed it as one of the more middling stories told due to Dan being a one and done character, Kid's story has always been my favourite as Michael Karl Popper AKA Kid as he's reffered to by Neo in the movies really makes you question the "rules" of the matrix, he catches on to how repetitive the matrix is and how his story mirrors Neo's own - contacted by someone from the real world, then contated by Morpheus in a learning/workspace, then he is pursued by agents to a high place but whereas Neo wimps out and is taken into agent custody "Kid" falls from a building and free's himself from the Matrix which is known as self-substanciation....this opens a huge can of worms about what Morpheus tells Neo about The One as he says "inside there was a man who freed himself and others" ,this makes you question if Neo really is The One as Neo didn't free himself from the matrix. finally can you do a full video on The Animatrix :)
Finally someone who doesn't crap on this game. Pretty much every video out there is made by kids who laugh at "square wheels" - something which happens on PC only if you're dumb enough to enable LOD in settings. I always enjoyed Enter the Matrix and still play it to this day, recently acquired a PS2 physical copy and having a blast with it. The game is FAR from being perfect, there's a ton of obviously unfinished animations and levels - especially during the final couple of levels. But overall, from the gameplay and story perspective, I prefer this one to Path of Neo, cause PoN barely feels like a coherent experience and plays more like a highlight reel. Enter the Matrix, however, is way closer to your traditional action-adventure titles, with level exploration and combat. Not to mention a lot of variety, too - there's martial arts, guns, driving, piloting a ship. Soundtrack is great, straigth from the movies, cutscenes are specifically filmed for the game and complement the main story nicely, its a lot of fun if you're a Matrix fan. I'd suggest to play it on PS2 though, that version seems a bit more polished when compared to PC.
Omg this game was soooo amazing back then! I was a kid when the first matrix came out and didn't really get into until later. Then one Christmas I was like 12 or 13 and I got this game. I was so confused why I couldn't play as Neo. But then after playing the game. I couldn't make it past the mail room level for years.... then one day a about 16 I finally beat the level and then went on. But then got stuck at the "boss" fight with the "vampires" or whatever. I never beat the game though. I also had to play at the character who did the driving because I legit could NOT beat the driving levels while being niobi shooting the following cars.... the bullet time was just absolutely amazing to do though. Like diving off of the highest thing while slowly falling in a dive. The bullets slowly firing with the trail. Lol so much fun!
Yeah I loved this game. It was ahead of its time. Reloaded and Revolutions aren't that bad to be honest. You can beat Ghost and Niobe's stories in 5 hours. Bit surprised you didn't go through the cheats, the test levels and the multiplayer fights. The PC version is broken up into segments like the console version. There was a LOT cut from the game like weapons, models, textures and so much more. I should showcase them sometime.
Neat game, it took actual attention and patience to get to the end of it. I specially loved how to use cheats you actually use an interface similar to the operator's screens in the movie.
Man, such a blast from the past, I loved that game as a kid on the PS2. Used to see how long I could hold my own against Agents when they showed up, and the cheat codes were pretty fun to use as well! Also the use of Yakuza music in the "Kung Fu" section had me chuckling, perfect use of these tracks there!
Remember having this game when i was around 10ish and was never able to beat the rooftop level as ghost or the bank in the first level as Naomi because the navigation system was busted and i had zero idea where to go, other than that the combat, gunplay and slowdown seemed unique af since i didn’t play max Payne yet
Fuzzy, I don't know what you're talking about mate, the level design in this game was incredibly awful. Bland, repetitive, linear, green, just generally uninspired!
Am I the only fan who doesn't really care that the Matrix Resurrection was that good? I still liked it and didn't really expect much. I just have a good time seeing stuff made in the universe. I don't see why they dont just bring the animatrix back as a Netflix anthology with multiple directors, etc.
Yes my '94 born a** played Enter the Matrix and Path of Neo when they came out, and for a time, it was good. The Siblings* Wachowski definitley put in the work, and we're all grateful for them.
I really wish The Matrix was allowed to have a Video Game Adaptation. So many ways to adapt and improve upon elements in this game from the Bullet Time/Wall running, the Martial Art animations, and the Gunplay.
I loved this game, I very vividly remember that I had a game disc that was messed up and in the areas where you could chose to play slightly different stories as Ghost or Niobe, I pretty much had to always choose Ghost otherwise the game would crash.
Emulating this on my laptop now! Tbh this is the definitive Matrix experience imo if they somehow mix Matrix Awakens with Enter the Matrix style itd work perfectly fine...even now just a revised version of these controls would make this game so much bettet
A cool idea I had behind the matrix in a fanfic would be that, humanity messed Earth up so bad they made the machines and Matrix to shelter humans until the machines fixed the atmosphere/world, and over time things became muddled. The reason was forgotten, humans escaped, the idea of humans being used as batteries was just hearsay until it became belief. Etc. Generations of time obscured the truth.
It's funny you talked about World Record to start this video because that was my favorite short in The Animatrix. The idea that someone could free themselves from the Matrix through sheer willpower imo was an awesome concept. Even Neo needed Morpheus to free him! I remember saving up my lunch money in high school for weeks so I could buy Enter the Matrix and the strategy guide on launch day. I had a great time with the game. Never experienced any of those bugs most people did. Still have them both to this day.
Matrix 4 is the 2nd best Matrix. After the first obviously. It has its flaws but it does a good job depicting how individualized the matrix has become. Instead of 'the machine' we are all trapped in individual algorithms that are trying to wedge between us and what we really want. The 2nd and 3rd movies dont have a message.

I miss this game as much as I want a dedicated remake. Maybe with a bit less jank but all nostalgia lol. Ngl now I got a weird feeling to start watching the animatrix immediately for some reason.
Living then at that time abd place, while the Matrix culture was at its peak, and Max Payne, it drove me to play this game, over and over again, that i wasn't even struggling, I was styling on anything that was against me. I remember gathering every Wolfman in the mansion from the start of the level until the end, and beating all their asses without even taking 1% of damage. I wasn't lucky with PS2, i got it too late but managed to get my hands on Path of Neo. It was such a beautiful game, but to do some stylish jump in the air, aim, shoot and use slo-mo you need to hold all 4 shoulder buttons at some point and that was crazy, i wasn't even mad, I was surprised. also was surprised at the ending. even though there were better games, just because the fame on this frachise and Max Payne, I played this so much. AND because of Keanu, I played a lot of Constantine the video game.
This was definitely one of those games I knew was bad when I played it, but was still young enough that I could tolerate more, and still had a little fun. On the Gamecube, at least, it was filled with bugs.
Personally, I found the short explaining the country of 'Zero One', and the war with the machines. It showed the depths of insanity that the world devolved into, and the horror of the war vrs the machines makes SkyNet look humane by comparison.
@@thatmovieguy7778 Yeah that was ok, but what about when they showed the bisected living guy Being stimulated to either laugh or cry. That was fucking crazy. The second Renaissance part 1 and 2 is the movie we've never seen, And the one I've always wanted to.
Your review of this game and complaining about the cameras shows how young you really are. When this game dropped it was peak. I loved it. I had no issues with any of these controls that you’re talking about.
Great video but if I may suggest another video game for you to review would be Mirrors Edge. Unsure if you played it before but would make a good retrospective video on.
It's funny you said the World Record looks like Aeon Flux. In fact, another Animatrix episode called Matriculated was made by the Aeon Flux creator and you can really see it :D Oh, and the guy who directed World Record also made Ninja Scroll and all that goodness :b
Honestly I think the whole slick, futurist vibe of the first movie and the absolute unexpected bomb of its impact sort of just got it into people's heads in the run up to 2003 that a Matrix game was surely going to be this best-in-class, groundbreaking all-timer which is why the response to this one felt so tepid. It probably didn't help that the whole year of the Matrix thing washed away once a lot of people decided Reloaded was a bloated, confusing mess that shouldn't have been made (a clunky, ballsy expansion of the franchise that's worth its weight in gold compared to some other lazy sequels but that's a different argument...) I think people were honestly expecting a game that the technology didn't exist to make yet, just because it had the Matrix name attached. Something as subversive as Sons of Liberty but set in Night City. The game didn't stand a chance compared to those expectations even though it's very decent.
Back when it came out I liked *Enter The Matrix* quite a bit. I didn`t get why it received only lukewarm receptions at best. And that`s coming from someone who dislikes Reloaded and Revolutions.
Please don't lie, it's a 5 or 6 AT BEST but the movie footage and bullet time features definitely make it unique and fun. I just hate the damn glitches and final machine levels.

I really enjoyed this game, it was the closest we got to real Matrix (except the for the movies). I prefer this to Path of Neo. Sometimes the game was buggy but it was good either way.
I remember finishing path of neo at like 9-10 yrs old and being so confused by the ending with the devs talking.
Never got on the ship those things
In the pods.
Was it a skin?
glad im not the only one who prefers this game over path of neo
Wrong, the closest thing behind the movie is real life

@@ja9145plus they got that later with The Path Of Neo which for the most part, I enjoyed
I still remember when Screwattack said this was one of the worst licensed games just cause you play as Naomi instead of Neo
They were right.
They're not wrong.
I remember reading an article in a game magazine at the time that said the developers specifically avoided the idea of playing as Neo, because he was super OP inside the Matrix and they didn't want the player to play as the guy who basically has godmode enabled by default and trivializes big threats like agents. Switching the character models of ghost with those of Neo made little me feel like a hacker back then. I loved the game
Hated the niobe part tho you gotta
Steer the vehicle with ghost shooting.
Ya. That whole hacking* process was dope.

3:26 I would absolutely watch a deep dive of The Animatrix.
This was a favorite childhood game for me. Seeing this makes me wanna revisit it.
I remember staying at my grandparents place and playing this game and my grandfather kept calling it The Acrobatic Bunch.
This game will forever be The Acrobatic Bunch to me.
Literally the game that introduced me to several firearms, ingame cheat codes, and swears. The Matrix was practically my childhood
My favourite part of the Animatrix was Breaking the Habit.
The opening of Animatrix actually accounts for the story of this game and follow up movie
I loved playing this game as a kid, used to play my own custom playlist in the background. Completed it for both PC and PS2, I remember seeing a LOT of people shit on this game. It isn’t bad, I had great memories with this game. Great upload as always.

Game was jank af but this whole period was my late teens/early twenties and is _so_ drenched in nostalgia, I can't possibly judge it harshly
The nostalgia is strong with this one! Good stuff man, I would like to see you make a video about path of neo in the future.

Instant smile on my face after the intro finished and music from Yakua started playing.
This game and its sequel were amazing
But wanna know the best action PS2 game? Jet Li: Rise to Honor. That was amazing
I hear you, I really do. But I'd recommend Urban Reign. (N i know def jam's a diff genre too, but it deserves mention imo😅)
I just LOVE the coach of the runner. They way he moves is just so fun for me.
18:05 i love the fact that you’re using The Rebel Path from Cyberpunk 2077 in the background
I remember being able to use a katana while playing Ghost.
I don't remember much details but I do remember that was the most fun part for me.
Man what perfect timing! I just watched the trilogy the other day and was thinking about this game!
I miss this generation of video games with movie/show tie ins that were well worth their existence as an expansion instead of a rehash
Absolutely loved this game, great memories. Thanks for the vid!

Most people probably didn’t know enough DoS commands to do well. I spent an entire day doing that and I still wasn’t sure if I completed it 😂
Used to bunk college to play this game.

I think that intro alone got me to sub. The rest... Made me hit the bell. Lad, just class 👌
From all these years of me being alive on this earth I never knew the matrix had anime shorts
The lesbian kiss between Jada Pinkett and Monica Bellucci stirred something in me at 9 years old 😅
This game still haunts me to this very day
Always a good day when fuzzy uploads
Excited to watch this. I just grabbed my copy of this and “The path of Neo” from my storage unit it and plan on playing them again on console.
Resurrections does not suck ass, but you do you.
This game has a hidden 2 player fighter feature. Was honestly one of the greatest fighting games ever made.
Reload "cause of the Smith fight in the park" is my favorite of the three and Revolutions shows how much a G.O.A.T. Captain Mifune is.
The Path of Neo next?

It probably didn't help that the whole year of the Matrix thing washed away once a lot of people decided Reloaded was a bloated, confusing mess that shouldn't have been made (a clunky, ballsy expansion of the franchise that's worth its weight in gold compared to some other lazy sequels but that's a different argument...)
I think people were honestly expecting a game that the technology didn't exist to make yet, just because it had the Matrix name attached. Something as subversive as Sons of Liberty but set in Night City. The game didn't stand a chance compared to those expectations even though it's very decent.
Ahh I forgot about this game! I loved it!
1:20 ahhhhh I remember I played the game of that series I’ve never knew it was anime but I thought it was just some random ninja
I actually went through this whole game only using disarms.
Back when it came out I liked *Enter The Matrix* quite a bit.
I didn`t get why it received only lukewarm receptions at best.
And that`s coming from someone who dislikes Reloaded and Revolutions.
I loved Matrix Resurrections...
Please don't lie, it's a 5 or 6 AT BEST but the movie footage and bullet time features definitely make it unique and fun. I just hate the damn glitches and final machine levels.
