I've been considering putting my 2018 wrx back to stock and trading it in for something more sensible. I drive 140 miles a day and it has been my modified commuter for just under a year. Put on 31k miles in 11 months and it just hit 70k last week. My biggest concern is having the motor blow up on me during my commute.... I recently picked up a 1999 miata that I have for a project car so it's pretty expensive having two "projects" and California will eventually catch me in the wrx with the V1 j pipe. The WRX has been crazy fun for a while but after a year of a long commute through cali traffic and now owning a second sports car, owning a WRX is just getting too expensive (looking at them cali gas prices). I'm still on the fence as it was my first car for tuning so it has a spot in my heart. Love the videos dude! You are the reason I picked up the wrx in the first place :) For anyone curious, the wrx has intake, full turbo back exhaust, bpv, boost controller, some wheels on Falken tires, etc.
Something I should say, I don't believe I should sell it but I just needed to throw this out into space. It's a very fun car but it's just so difficult to own engine modified cars in California. I'm really excited to see if COBB can produce Green Speed products for California customers. I may not be in California in the next few years so we'll see :)

If I count only the performance related stuff, I spent $3,200 (buying/selling local Facebook) to achieve that. But if you were to include all the carbon stuff like hood, truck, APR wing, driveshaft (other cosmetics) that's a different story lol. It still comes out to be way cheaper since the entire build was bought second hand but yeah every bolt got me here. You can literally point at anything on my STi and it's from Facebook 😅 I'm still on pump with the 3.5xtr 10cm Blouch. It's rated for 580hp but my rods will scream 🤣 you can still see me giving V8 bois a hard time though on my channel. That's all I could ever ask from the platform

I don't feel what I want out of the car is too much to ask, it's for the mountains really and that's why I am still not sure I will like the 20g but I'll see. Did a lot of research but have to eventually just pick a turbo and go with it. I'm hoping that it won' be too laggy, but also the tuner can help get that band a little more where I may want it. If I want to go a lil bigger turbo with green speed update, am I able to put a Cobb 20G instead of the oem? Will tuner still be able to tune without throwing codes? I’m at 340 whp, just want a lil more breathing room for turbo since the oem has such a low psi rating. Any help would be appreciated 🤙
400whp stock block EJ255 with all the mods and life support mods taking all the abuse. This is proof that so many Subarus blow engines due to the person behind the wheel. Modding without tuning=boom Low rpm & high demand = boom Romping on it from a stop over and over = boom Not keeping up with maintenance = boom BOV without speed density = boom Power mods without fuel system upgrades = boom People take care of your car correctly and please for the love of god do not mod if you aren’t willing to properly tune and pay the extra for proper parts
I wonder what the update is on the green speed stuff? Chevron deference was ruled unconstitutional and the EPA supposedly lost its power over vehicle emissions.
I have a street series iag AOS on my 2021 sti, I installed by strictly following the instructions on iags video (had a professional look it over after), but I see a lot of people taking white pcv sensor things out and putting the little metal bit from inside into the connectors. I was just wondering if I should do the same? Couldn't really see any other reason for that other than cleaning up the engine bay a bit.
Ey thanks for the video. I learned something new. I have the Iag AOS in my jdm swapped 02 wrx and what a pain the oil return line is running so close to the intercooler and turbo elbow. The modified y pipe drain hose is brilliant. Wish I had known about this before I put my new turbo in, I would have done the upgrade then. Wonder if i can get my own Y fitting and make it work. 65$ isnt the worst price ive seen for a reliable mod

I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of HP tuner? I have a 21 sti and want to go away from cobbs accessport. Only problem is I’ve never heard of anybody using HP tuner
What is sad is the i already build my suby but now my flexfuel harness is bad and i can not find one anymore makes me sad and wanting to get rid of my suby what can i do?
Ngl never really thought that parts of the US dont need some version of their car to be regulation compliant, yearly roadworthiness (including emissions) is standard here most people will have a entire second setup that sits in the shed the entire year until its time for testing then swap cats/egr/whatever back on for the day get the test passed then remove it again, probably why the standalone route is more common for power builds here than the access port route
Does the GESI downpipe stink as much as a normal catted downpipe? They have the same cell count and look like they're the same size so not sure what is different
my tuner keeps saying im 100% going to get a check engine light due to the downpipe etc, whats the solution to this??? cause I woudl love to not have to buy a haltech or anything of that sort, 2020 STI here, thanks!
Hey Tanner @smeedia I’m about to get an six with a wrx five speed transmission 🥶 is going to be a long term project so what you suggest to start with …?
How does the BPV actually makes the flutter, and isn’t that bad? I am getting confused by the fact it is making a sound, since it is supposed to re-circulate the air. Is it making the turbo noise due to the CAI? Please help😂
The stiffer the spring the harder it is to open. The harder to open then the air goes back through the charge pipe. Tbh it's not perfect for the turbo but it's not going to kill it in a day
Bro i noticed u have an oddisey battery have u ran into any issues with it? I have a 2015 wrx and my voltage randomly drops to 11 or 12 while cruising it only does it with the oddisey lightweight bat
No check engine lights? I've been fearing the plunge into E85. I have all the parts but I don't want to deal with constant CEL codes. My pro tune was done before the green initiative.
So I don’t need a flex fuel kit to run e85? (I had purchased penguin racing flex fuel kit like long ago. (Wrx 06) I also have the air injection pumps fail on me so yay codes. You said to just replace them? There’s no other way? I’m in Cali
Have you consider building a supercharger? From the research i have done you can take a normal turbo, reinforce the shaft, take the hot side off, make a bracket, attach a pulley, run a longer belt(or delete ac condensor) and run piping. Thoughts?
Personally wouldent do it, for these engines turbos work fantastic. Using a supercharger is going to have that parasitic draw and on 2.0 or 2.5L you'll feel it a bit
My 17 fa20 wrx decided to blow my turbo and send all the metal scraps into my motor, so now why not full send with a custom rotated turbo kit, iag block and port injection in january haha. Would you ever consider doing a 500whp fa20 build?
With respect…. I thought the point was to also see how much power the stock power train can hold before it blows up. Not , wether or not it can launch 100 times or pull a rig We’ve seen how much a Green speed build can now generate “reliably” … now I was hoping you’d equip larger turbos , larger injectors and keep adjusting timing till it pops.
Tbh the engines on its way out, cold start "knock" and the 5 speed has lived a rough life. I also can't afford to keep buying parts to keep trying more and more. Either all or how it sits 🙏
Any advice for us living under CARB’s watching eye?? Not sure how I install all these goodies then get it tuned for them and pass emissions?? Pretty sure aftermarket maps are verboten 😢
Mine cost $9500 for 408whp on pump gas, including forged pistons and upgraded bearings! But.. it will never be compliant, good thing not every state cares.
Cobb actually says this downpipe is not legal for sale or use in California. Which is real disappointing considering buying any OEM cat is outrageously expensive. Grimmspeed also does not say theirs is CARB legal. Real bummer with all this going on. I just want my car to be fun and legal again. Hopefully something gets certified soon. The magnaflow systems are CARB legal, but they too are on the pricey side of things and definitely look real restrictive.
I like how transparent you are with your builds, others treat it like it’s an fbi file lol great video 👍🏼

Air pump heats up the cat on cold start to get it as efficient as possible
You got all the cool cars mang!!!
Eyyyy, thank you 💪🙏
400whp stock block EJ255 with all the mods and life support mods taking all the abuse. This is proof that so many Subarus blow engines due to the person behind the wheel.
Modding without tuning=boom
Low rpm & high demand = boom
Romping on it from a stop over and over = boom
Not keeping up with maintenance = boom
BOV without speed density = boom
Power mods without fuel system upgrades = boom
People take care of your car correctly and please for the love of god do not mod if you aren’t willing to properly tune and pay the extra for proper parts
This ^
I've been saying it, it's not the car. It's the owners
I wonder what the update is on the green speed stuff? Chevron deference was ruled unconstitutional and the EPA supposedly lost its power over vehicle emissions.
Got the ACT HDSS and the chatter is crazy. The clutch doesn't slip at all. Just be aware bro.
Please do a 2015+ wrx build 😢
Do your 5 + pulls to have your fun then if it last that hook it up for that Victory burnout
Lol yessss 🤣
I have a street series iag AOS on my 2021 sti, I installed by strictly following the instructions on iags video (had a professional look it over after), but I see a lot of people taking white pcv sensor things out and putting the little metal bit from inside into the connectors. I was just wondering if I should do the same? Couldn't really see any other reason for that other than cleaning up the engine bay a bit.
You can if you want to clean things up a bit, I do it on all of the ones I install 🤝
Price 8:49 😅
Ey thanks for the video. I learned something new. I have the Iag AOS in my jdm swapped 02 wrx and what a pain the oil return line is running so close to the intercooler and turbo elbow. The modified y pipe drain hose is brilliant. Wish I had known about this before I put my new turbo in, I would have done the upgrade then. Wonder if i can get my own Y fitting and make it work. 65$ isnt the worst price ive seen for a reliable mod
I'm sure you could get a Y fitting and pop it in 👀
Great video
At the end of the day, it is for a good cause. 😊
🙏🙏🙏🙏
yall got any ideas i got the p0244 code already changed the silenoid and nothing it still comes back but the check engine turns on and it gets off on its own any ideas guys??
Already verified all vac lines are set up properly?
14k DIY ...if you need labor...its double at least. Fun watch, I have a from new WRX limited just did a COBB stage 1 for better drive ability...which it definitely does.
Lot of $$$. Trans will go before motor. 5 speed super brittle. Love transparency on the build!
Curious to see how long it will last 😅😅
Quality video man. Love the content. I would love to see a wrx swapped rs build on the channel!
Maybe one day 🔥
Looking forward to you doing a 6 speed swap. I have a 2012 WRX with similar mods and the stock 5 speed may not hold up.
I will document it all 🤝🔥
Ok what if you're trying to build a 700 hp subie. Is it possible? You know doing it the emissions way?
Open source or stand alone imo
Lol the grimspeed jb400 is $1300 where you are but $2900 here haven’t been able to tune my bugeye yet I’m still on hold trying to decide on turbo and few other things
😳😳😳
What are your power goals and budget?
@@Smeedia 300kw at the wheels
@@Smeedia so far
I’ve installed
Process west fmic
Process west tgv
It has a vf22 turbo already but smoke has been coming near my turbo/ coolant expansion tank
I have also have these brand new ready to go once it gets tuned and that’s
Process west tgv delete
Process west fuel rail
1300cc injectors
340 or a 525 fuel pump (haven’t purchased it yet )
I was thinking about buying a ej207 short block and stroking it
Or just stroking my ej205 with forged pistons and Manley
100k subs coming soon!
🥳🥳🥳🥳
very close to 100k!
So close!!!!
I'm slowly building a BF5 and I really enjoy how much you go into your videos and detail, But I'm struggling to find any one else playing with the first gen legacy's ,Will you do any videos on those ?? .cheers
I don't have any plans to get one unfortunately but if the opportunity to work on one ever comes up I got you 🙏
Just so you know Tanner, Delicious Tuning has a 100% compliant kit for E85.
Good to hear 🥳🥳🥳
FYI evening is stock other than AWE cat back track exhaust..
What? 👀
I was wonder if u had a check engine light because of the j pipe?
No sir 🤝
Seen you’ve built many different variants of these cars I have a GD chassis do you know if the cobb intake with the box works with a fmic setup?
Yes it will 🤝 you have to trim the box a little though
I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of HP tuner? I have a 21 sti and want to go away from cobbs accessport. Only problem is I’ve never heard of anybody using HP tuner
What is sad is the i already build my suby but now my flexfuel harness is bad and i can not find one anymore makes me sad and wanting to get rid of my suby what can i do?
I wanna do this build on my 2019 sti, sounds so clean but ima do unequal headers not the hybrid one
Yassss the UEL sounds so good 🔥
Ngl never really thought that parts of the US dont need some version of their car to be regulation compliant, yearly roadworthiness (including emissions) is standard here most people will have a entire second setup that sits in the shed the entire year until its time for testing then swap cats/egr/whatever back on for the day get the test passed then remove it again, probably why the standalone route is more common for power builds here than the access port route
Does the GESI downpipe stink as much as a normal catted downpipe? They have the same cell count and look like they're the same size so not sure what is different
I recently got a tomei catless dp
Can I use a tune off the access port or does it need a legit tune ? Lol
Needs a legit tune but you'll have a hell of a time finding a tuner for a catless downpipe
my tuner keeps saying im 100% going to get a check engine light due to the downpipe etc, whats the solution to this??? cause I woudl love to not have to buy a haltech or anything of that sort, 2020 STI here, thanks!
Yes please on the home made rotated turbo kit for the wrx!
🤝🤝🤝
Hey Tanner @smeedia I’m about to get an six with a wrx five speed transmission 🥶 is going to be a long term project so what you suggest to start with …?
6 speed swap?
How does the BPV actually makes the flutter, and isn’t that bad? I am getting confused by the fact it is making a sound, since it is supposed to re-circulate the air. Is it making the turbo noise due to the CAI? Please help😂
The stiffer the spring the harder it is to open. The harder to open then the air goes back through the charge pipe. Tbh it's not perfect for the turbo but it's not going to kill it in a day
I’m looking at the borla s type exhaust what’s your opinion on it I don’t see many sti run it I’m just curious what you think of it
Never been a fan of borla on subarus. Not a terrible exhaust
@@Smeedia wasn’t expecting a response at 5:40 am but thanks😂 I’m stuck at looking for catbacks I don’t want too loud but I also don’t want too quiet
If you blow up the 5speed can I get the engine? I just blew up mine 😅
You don't want this one 😅😅😅
i see you are near 100k subs, have my sub (y)
Appreciate the support my friend ❤️
Bro i noticed u have an oddisey battery have u ran into any issues with it? I have a 2015 wrx and my voltage randomly drops to 11 or 12 while cruising it only does it with the oddisey lightweight bat
Never really had any issues with em, just gotta start the cars every few days
Alternator could be on its way out
I'd been thinking that the builds series on the WRX seemed unfinished. Green speed compliant bit makes this much hp, etc.
The green speed portion of thr build is complete, the next phase is the party zone
No check engine lights? I've been fearing the plunge into E85. I have all the parts but I don't want to deal with constant CEL codes. My pro tune was done before the green initiative.
How much boost for the 450? Currently at 400hp 407tourq water meth at 21lbs and just about all the same mods. Going for map sensor and more boost.
You Otta sale your builds as packages ie. Stage 1 ,2,3 etc. Make it easier for us commoners
Hmmm we could 🤔
@@Smeedia easy money for you cause your following car dude to car dude
So I don’t need a flex fuel kit to run e85? (I had purchased penguin racing flex fuel kit like long ago. (Wrx 06) I also have the air injection pumps fail on me so yay codes. You said to just replace them? There’s no other way? I’m in Cali
I think you skipped the price of the Grimmspeed intercooler. Nothing we can’t look up ourselves though.
🙏🙏🙏
I got a question... 😅. How much power do you think a similar setup with a stock DP is going to net. CARB is a little more stringent than EPA.
Not sure tbh but the stock DP is pretty restrictive 😭
@@Smeedia guess we gonna find out with my car and a 20g 🤣 apparently 2019 plus was supposed to be a little better but 🤷
What can I do about code p0420? My TurboXS downpipe is less than a year old, and replaced rear o2 sensor. Still getting p0420
I bought a 2011 wrx and it looks like the engine harness has been spliced into. Who would you recommend I go through to get a new engine harness?
Subaru wholesale online 🤝
@@Smeedia thank you I’ll take a look!
YESSSSSS SEND IT!
@@Smeedia Gotta have those poor financial decisiosn and spend a shit ton on fab work ahaha. Turbos gonna sit kinda where your is on your h6 sti
With respect…. I thought the point was to also see how much power the stock power train can hold before it blows up. Not , wether or not it can launch 100 times or pull a rig
We’ve seen how much a Green speed build can now generate “reliably” … now I was hoping you’d equip larger turbos , larger injectors and keep adjusting timing till it pops.
Tbh the engines on its way out, cold start "knock" and the 5 speed has lived a rough life. I also can't afford to keep buying parts to keep trying more and more. Either all or how it sits 🙏
@@Smeedia push it to the max just as it us now. Josh might do it for free 😀
where did you get your accessport mount
amzn.to/3TRDvNG
Great video idea, love the 100k sub idea! How does an E85 map deal with variances in ethanol concentration?
Gotta make sure your getting good E, test before filling 🙏
Normally you’d want a fuel content analyzer
Any advice for us living under CARB’s watching eye??
Not sure how I install all these goodies then get it tuned for them and pass emissions?? Pretty sure aftermarket maps are verboten 😢
Etuning and take it all off and go back to stock for smog 😮💨
Mine cost $9500 for 408whp on pump gas, including forged pistons and upgraded bearings! But.. it will never be compliant, good thing not every state cares.
Come OONNNN 100K! I wanna see some shit blown up!!!
So close!!!
Would deleting the TGV's make it not compliant in most states?
How much power can these wrxs hold eith some bottom end upgraded but still pass emmisions?
