Isn’t anyone worried the gas tank will blow just as they are passing it? Smh Lol! Just after I finished this, the gas tank DID blow. I see the camera person moved pretty quickly. Dummy
Chris Cooper actually they didn't need to close the highway down, they just needed to leave 1 or 2 lanes open, now if it was a Tanker Truck on fire, then that's when they have to close the highway down but its not a tanker truck
Where was the foam? They were spreading fuel, ashphalt, liquid rubber and plastic back and forth into their working area and on the lines??? Police never stopped traffic, traffic passing by within 20' of tires exploding, high pressure air tanks exploding, fuel tanks exploding, toxic fumes from burning fuel, rubber, aluminum, magnesium, vinyl, plastic, tar.....Would make a great training video on how NOT to attack a fuel fire !!!
I said the same thing, WHERE'S the foam truck. Anywhere else would have used foam, too put it out. Especially if they aren't going to shut down the freeway. They are just putting more people in jeopardy. Smh.
Yea I was wondering about the foam as soon as I saw the water hoses. But I was like well they're the fire fighters I'm not. Then the second hose comes in and the dude is hitting the chemicals with high water pressure shooting flames directly at the other dude. Then I was like holy shit lol. Then I'm watching all the chemicals go down the water drains. 🤷♂️
I'm not a firefighter but I was wondering why they weren't using the foam to put it out. They almost caught their hoses in fire a few times and in the beginning, I was wondering if they were gonna put it out or stand there and watch it. Like damn, are they gonna handle it or just let it burn?
Yeah and they knew it was a fuel fire and used water on it, and even worse at one point one hose was used in a way that blew the fire into the firefighters on the other side. They are lucky nobody didn't get seriously burned! This should be a training video about how NOT to fight a fire!

That truck driver was the most chill dude. I'm glad that this won't ruin his lively hood since he was driving for a company rather than his own truck. Guess this is why insurance is so important.
As far as I know, so that the fire doesn't spread or spread, it's best if it is flushed first that has not been exposed to the spread of fire, or flammable materials, not directly to the hotspots because when flushing the fire points, the fire will spread to other parts of the truck due to the water pressure is so great, so the fire is too fast to wipe out a truck and it only takes a very short time to save a truck so big, just a suggestion from me thank you, greetings from Indonesia😊
The people casually driving by this thing must be on their way to cash a $1,000,000.00 check! Why else wld anyone just “drive by” a potentially explosive fire? As I wrote that, the sucker exploded! Geezuz!! And then exploded 3 more times! They shoulda STOPPED traffic! WTF?
Whhaaaaattttt!!!!! I didn't even realize you filmed this video!! It's one of my top videos to watch!! It's just crazy with the gasoline, and the stupid people who just drive by without a problem like that one white car that flew by. Stay safe 🙏🏼 GOD BLESS 🙌🏼 🙏🏼 Stay Blessed 🙌🏼 😇 🙏🏼
Why did the cops not stop the traffic and why have firefighters on opposing sides of blaze blowing ignited fuel into his fellow crew members? What would have happened if lighted fuel had flowed into traffic and not gone the other way. Poor incident control and traffic control in my book.
You can fight a liquid fuel fire with water by using two lines on fan nozzles coming from 90* to each other. Doesn't work on straight stream, and not well when surface is slanted.
Shut it down hahahaha this nigga just cuz a semi truck on fire woooohhhhoooooo smart people drive away from it dumb people drive close to it if it was a tanker they would have shut the freeway down but in this case just a truck burning down hehehehe he big city freeway shut down would be nightmare for near by town 😂
For such a big fire right on a highway, it's crazy that traffic was allowed to continue right past the danger zone..so many things could have gone badly wrong there.
If you look closely about at 1:51, you can see the pieces of foam etc... in the lanes of traffic, behind the truck. I can see an orange colored car driving over it, along with a white SUV that kicks up a piece at 2:07.
This fire could've easily been prevented. The guy carrying the mattress should have known that there is a law about unsecured loads and tied it down better or use a trailer. And the driver of the truck should've slowed down and backed off if he knew it was an unsecured load.
They got there in 5 minutes lmao, leave it to some guy who most likely knows nothing about fighting fires to tell firefighters that they are doing their jobs wrong. You know nothing other than what you could SEE in this short video.
Your a freaking joke dude ! Why would the be in a hurry to spray water when the main Concern is to keep the fuel out of the storm drain plus the semi is a total loss
Probably their objrctives was to control the fire from spreading by not wasting water. From what I can guess they have only that water which they brought with themselves
I'm still a trainee, I'm curious as the the policies in place for CALFIRE and the use of foam to fight fires where (I'm assuming this was fuel) is an factor.
Well then, firefighter, you should know that this is a combustible liquid and not a flammable liquid. And you should know the difference and why it is important.
Why wasn't foam used? In fuel fires its standard practise in the UK. I also note that there wasn't a coordinated effort to push the fire back to source using the pressure of water alone. Seems to me that this video could be used as a training aid in the future. Firemen attend fires; firefighters fight fires!
If that truck would of really exploded you be hearing all the lawsuits files from families of the drivers that kept on passing by when they should of been shut it down
Maybe I'm wrong, but if traffic was halted too early wouldn't that create a standstill traffic situation preventing emergency equipment from reaching the fire if it relied on using the highway to get to it?
I don’t fault the firefighter, they tried what they could. I fault whoever trained and sent them because either they were never trained not to use water on a diesel fire or they were sent out without the proper equipment to fight it.
Let's start with the fact that almost every firetruck in Europe is equipped with One-Seven and in the US almost none is. Keep wondering why the evolution of firefighting doesn't seem to cross the pond....
With literally millions of EMS staff in the U.S., there are hundreds of videos of sloppy work and mistakes. If you assume that means the majority are just inept or unable to preform like the "European" fire service that just makes you naive. Europeans are so ignorant of the environment in the U.S. in general in my experience. Like a wealthy imperialistic nations tend to be about societies they barely understand.
@@jasc3294 Foam, which sits on top of the oil and removes oxygen therefore extinguishes the fire. Water just makes it worse - as can be seen in the video. Plus it horribly contaminates the sewers or worse, natural watercourses, with the run-off.
Excellent quality video, and top marks too volvo for there contribution to climet change, speeding it up with their new night heating system for drivers discomfort 👍🤠
Yeah he definitely didn't almost kill him. He just sprayed some flames toward him by accident, which isn't as big of a deal considering the fire retardant equipment they wear.
There's no way your 2nd due should be showing up as you are. I don't care what people say that's shitty time. If you can see that the fuel is catching on fire switch to foam. I think they need more vehicle fire training.
I'll give kudos to the shooter as well: nice footage. Steady. Nice ambient sound of tires exploding. Some stuff could be edited out if this on the 10PM News, but overall a decent story if someone was a commuter. And even got an interview of the driver. Handled like a true news photographer which I did at one time. Good job. Though I'm sure how a fire stated from running over a mattress. The idiot who lost it needs to have their ass kicked. Just my opinion.
They get funding cut more and more depending of government ect. So my guess is that they simply doesn't have anything but water , because fire after fire/ video after video you see the same pattern / problem Water on Chemical / Gasoline ( petrol ect ) even im very shure they know it's bad idea. Also it have being many times firefighters have protested against funding being cut. If you search there is video/news after video/news where firefighters have blocked roads ect in protest. So my guess they have no other choice than to try fight the fire with what they have..... Water..... Sheezh ( facepalm ) Yes ridiculous....
Until you are out there doing their jobs and dealing with policy and politics they have to deal with, shut up. I speak with some knowledge, my kids' dad is a local and wild land fire fighter and paramedic (small town) I hear the griping about funding all the time.
@@cutebutsadisticable Totally correct they are on limited budget and funding get cut all time leaving no money to needed equipment and man power. They have to shut up and think about the political Sh*t those firefighters dealing with. It should be in all peoples interest that firefighters and emergency crews have full funding so they can do their job and save lives. But if you look at where the politicians are living then you realice those areas/places where the politicians themselves are living then you see they do not lack any funding. They have secured themselves whan at same time cut those areas where people need it most ( read they are not living themselves ) You can be shure if they need any firefightings in their big houses they wil get it and if they need any emergency such as medical they will get it and it is fast and big. It's all about politics and money and egoism with NO respect for the small people. Despite the government have lot's of money but those are spend in military power ect.
its San Diego, the highways are always jammed like that even w/o accidents, would be near impossible to shut down the highway in that situation. Some cities only have traffic for like 9am and then 5pm, not SD, traffic is all day everyday, kind of the reason its 80mph so people keep moving. Why do you think it took forever for the fire fighters to get there. Not to mention there are quite a bit of aggressive driver in SD.
Shanty Town Where in San Diego is it 80mph? I would love to know since I am out driving all day at 65 mph and I see people passing me up like idiots. Perhaps they are the ones who make up such a nonsense mph to just drive like that?
Does every engine have foam on board or is it certain ones that carry it? I'm just wondering if they just straight up didn't have it to use ya know? I mean they teach you that in like 1st grade to not use water on a oil fire!!! Idk..
1. you don't know how far away the fire station is. 2. it was about 6 minutes in to the the video, with a few small cuts, when the fire departement arrived
Firstly Negligence and weakness in the face of this type of fire and is to face the source of fire opposite to the wind so as not to expand the area and area of fire Second Note that the firefighter in the right hand side of the screen almost increased the area of fire and reach a colleague in the opposite side Third This type of fire must fight with foam and not water, professional
Cars and trucks do not explode (the gas tanks I mean), that only happens in movies ;) The tyres will of course explode and can cause serious injury. And depending on what was in the container or inside of the cabin, that could possibly explode as well. I would most certainly want to drive past that in the first possible lane from it though, that's for sure! Not like many of those just driving right beside it, yikes!
Great video , how'd you end up there so quick ? That mattress must've wedged itself right next to the mufflers to go up so quick , noticed it was leaking diesel right from the start . LIKE THE DRIVER SAID the he springs must've cut the fuel lines !!!
Wow 5 mins into the video and I still don't see no fire departments and they aren't closing the highway down... like wtf?! Is it that safe to drive that close to a fully engulfed vehicle fire?

When those that are in charge push Agenda 21, the more people you put at risk the less people you have on the earth. Check out their emblems in your state, not all are, but some are, usually the ones at the top. I hope all you regular Joes make it there in that state.
Early 90’s I saw an old Ford Ranger pull over across from a new fire station with smoke coming from the hood. The fire became much more intense once it reached the dashboard. Early 2000’s I bought a 1983 F350 chassis cab truck that some vandal set the cab on fire. Nothing in the cab left but metal. It was quite a mess to cleanup. I was going to rebuild the truck with a cab from an F150 but changed my mind after I looked into the over complicated MnDOT inspection process.

WTF?
Phat Girl Gotta keep that traffic going. If people don’t go to work theres no money
Whhaaaaattttt!!!!! I didn't even realize you filmed this video!! It's one of my top videos to watch!! It's just crazy with the gasoline, and the stupid people who just drive by without a problem like that one white car that flew by.
Stay safe 🙏🏼
GOD BLESS 🙌🏼 🙏🏼
Stay Blessed 🙌🏼 😇 🙏🏼
Why did the cops not stop the traffic and why have firefighters on opposing sides of blaze blowing ignited fuel into his fellow crew members? What would have happened if lighted fuel had flowed into traffic and not gone the other way. Poor incident control and traffic control in my book.
You can fight a liquid fuel fire with water by using two lines on fan nozzles coming from 90* to each other. Doesn't work on straight stream, and not well when surface is slanted.
the cops were obviously dickheads.
Pluto they didn’t want to stop traffic. You should become a firefighter and write a how to manual
Ratko Alibasic but how do they know what’s in the truck??
Hey, Boss! That truckload of steaks I'm delivering. Did they want them medium or well-done?
Well done for sure
U sure it’s steak?

Good
UK they close the freeway and the the other side too. Car fire today on Motorway all stop even when put out took ages to reopen.
For such a big fire right on a highway, it's crazy that traffic was allowed to continue right past the danger zone..so many things could have gone badly wrong there.
I’m sure it was closed as soon as possible. They can only get there so fast
This is the Southland. Drivers will do anything.
and let gas go in the drains, you didnt even think about that did you
Crazy traffic, like the jackass in the white car 1:37.
@@timmarquez713 I don't think so..cars were still passing throughout this incident. No attempt was made by the police to stop them
I hope the guy who didn't tie mattress realized what he did.
If you look closely about at 1:51, you can see the pieces of foam etc... in the lanes of traffic, behind the truck. I can see an orange colored car driving over it, along with a white SUV that kicks up a piece at 2:07.
The man who dropped the matress is going to have to replace the truck.
This fire could've easily been prevented. The guy carrying the mattress should have known that there is a law about unsecured loads and tied it down better or use a trailer. And the driver of the truck should've slowed down and backed off if he knew it was an unsecured load.
Hell he ain't stopping until he gets to mexico.
They fought the fire and the fire won...
Fire department was slooow getting there and looked very inexperienced. Like 8 fire trucks and only 2 guys spraying water. 🤷🏼♂️
They got there in 5 minutes lmao, leave it to some guy who most likely knows nothing about fighting fires to tell firefighters that they are doing their jobs wrong. You know nothing other than what you could SEE in this short video.
More training needed
Your a freaking joke dude ! Why would the be in a hurry to spray water when the main Concern is to keep the fuel out of the storm drain plus the semi is a total loss
Probably their objrctives was to control the fire from spreading by not wasting water. From what I can guess they have only that water which they brought with themselves
knight fox these people now a days it just takes a couple of seconds to evaluate the situation and make a plan of attack 🤨 I’m glad you see it 2 👍
Had they not been trained in dealing with liquid fuel fires?
Not related to my question, but I'm surprised how long it took the tyres to blow 😯
I also thought the same😓
I'm still a trainee, I'm curious as the the policies in place for CALFIRE and the use of foam to fight fires where (I'm assuming this was fuel) is an factor.
Im a firefighter and never once have i let my hose catch fire or be in the path of flammable liquid flow paths
Well then, firefighter, you should know that this is a combustible liquid and not a flammable liquid. And you should know the difference and why it is important.
EngineerDude
*Maybe he's the brother of the guy who sells the hoses...*
*This is united states, remember?*
I wanted to know.... Why did the water cut off so many times?
Why wasn't foam used? In fuel fires its standard practise in the UK.
I also note that there wasn't a coordinated effort to push the fire back to source using the pressure of water alone. Seems to me that this video could be used as a training aid in the future.
Firemen attend fires; firefighters fight fires!
and? lmao u say that like you are the chuck norris of firefighters
All I got to say is wow y’all need more training
I love that " I don't get impressed too easy"!!!!!!!!!!! Best thing I've heard.
Big mistake that they made is not shutting down the traffic SMH
If that truck would of really exploded you be hearing all the lawsuits files from families of the drivers that kept on passing by when they should of been shut it down
Maybe I'm wrong, but if traffic was halted too early wouldn't that create a standstill traffic situation preventing emergency equipment from reaching the fire if it relied on using the highway to get to it?
@@rayford21 usually they have emergency lanes for that reason so the emergency services can use them to bypass the traffic
OMG! The fire quickly engulfed the vehicle. But firefighters control it bravely. Salute to all firefighters team.
"Oops, there´s burning fuel on the ground"
"No problem, just give me more water!""
im so tired of seeing that in these videos lol
Oil fire means must use foam compound....fire fighter r total wrong
What’s the correct way it should be extinguished?
@@jasc3294 Foam, which sits on top of the oil and removes oxygen therefore extinguishes the fire. Water just makes it worse - as can be seen in the video. Plus it horribly contaminates the sewers or worse, natural watercourses, with the run-off.
those explosions were the 6 tires on the vehicle as well as the gas, oil, and radiator blowing out.
Total of 10 explosions
Maybe because there's 10 tires on the tractor
Two tires in the front and two rear axles with 4 tires each equals 10 tires on the semi total.
There was a couple of smaller ones with flame jets, those were the oil reservoirs on the shocks blowing out. That was cool.
What did the cop do still letting traffic through ( fuel tank ) ?
Y’all need better fire fighters
Dark Dragon Gaming California is just a giant mess
And police sense they don't know how to shut the road down for a accident like this.
California is screwed bad. Im a firefighter and i dont let my hose catch fire
You need a better face
Ida Floyd you think you can do better? People have to get through somehow dumbass
I was hoping you'd be there. Excellent video.
thank you sir, pure luck to be there
Praise God that the driver got out of the truck virtually unscathed, and that there were no serious injuries.
Excellent quality video, and top marks too volvo for there contribution to climet change, speeding it up with their new night heating system for drivers discomfort 👍🤠
8:15 the guy nearly kills his parter and doesn’t even give an effort to stop
Exaggeration
Yeah he definitely didn't almost kill him. He just sprayed some flames toward him by accident, which isn't as big of a deal considering the fire retardant equipment they wear.
Their suits are fireproof
Slow fire department...with only 2 hoses is disappointing.
Look at a map, National City is not San Diego. . .
That was good response time and also they ran 1 hose per engine so they would not need a tanker

There's no way your 2nd due should be showing up as you are. I don't care what people say that's shitty time. If you can see that the fuel is catching on fire switch to foam. I think they need more vehicle fire training.
A lot of errors being made in this footage. Good example on what not to do in situations like this
Maybe this WAS a training video.
Crazy how everyone just keep passing by
What else they can do.
I know, clueless huh?

not drive by because it could explode on them, like wait until it's clear by the fire fighters before driving by it
@Summer Bertram • Point taken,... be well 👌.
The fire fighters need to go back to school & take fire fighting 101. You can't put water on a chemical fire
They get funding cut more and more depending of government ect. So my guess is that they simply
doesn't have anything but water , because fire after fire/ video after video you see the same pattern / problem
Water on Chemical / Gasoline ( petrol ect ) even im very shure they know it's bad idea.
You mean the "chemical fire" they actually put out using water? Lol, your logic astounds me.
They have secured themselves whan at same time cut those areas where people need it most ( read they are not living themselves )
You can be shure if they need any firefightings in their big houses they wil get it and if they need any emergency such as medical they will get it and it is fast and big.
It's all about politics and money and egoism with NO respect for the small people.
Despite the government have lot's of money but those are spend in military power ect.
No. That only makes things worse. He almost put his colleague on fire
its San Diego, the highways are always jammed like that even w/o accidents, would be near impossible to shut down the highway in that situation. Some cities only have traffic for like 9am and then 5pm, not SD, traffic is all day everyday, kind of the reason its 80mph so people keep moving. Why do you think it took forever for the fire fighters to get there. Not to mention there are quite a bit of aggressive driver in SD.
Appreciate the clarity with your analysis regarding the driving situation in SD lol
Shanty Town Where in San Diego is it 80mph? I would love to know since I am out driving all day at 65 mph and I see people passing me up like idiots. Perhaps they are the ones who make up such a nonsense mph to just drive like that?

Also, the Fire Dep't will bill the trucking company's insurance company for all damaged/destroyed equipment.
right, cus is best watering the hose rather than take it away.... of course
What a nice training video on "non Training" I hope you have bought a few pails of good class B foam to carry on the engine but to use it next time.
FOAM SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED BY FIRST ARRIVING CREW ON THIS FIRE. POOR CALL BY 1ST ARRIVING ENGINE CAPTAIN
Must be as a result of AFFF fire foam being classed a cancer causing product.

What did the fd spray on it diesel fuel?
I'd be afraid to drive pass that. it could explode.
Cars and trucks do not explode (the gas tanks I mean), that only happens in movies ;)
The tyres will of course explode and can cause serious injury. And depending on what was in the container or inside of the cabin, that could possibly explode as well.
I would most certainly want to drive past that in the first possible lane from it though, that's for sure! Not like many of those just driving right beside it, yikes!

The fact that traffic is going slow and still driving down a highway where pretty sure you see smoke shows how the society over there works
