You are amazing mate. The amount of mechanical problems you can remember coming across previously, and you can remember what is probably bust and how to fix it staggers me. Myself, I put my keys down in my shed this morning, took me almost 6 hours to find them!!! Your projects must cover around 170 years, all that plus earning a living too, well done and greetings from Scotland 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi, Jonathan, It's been a while since I've been on your site and I'm glad to see that you're still keeping things running with little to no cash outlay. I'm also pleased to see that Nana is still giving you her Catscan approval on all your projects, give her an extra scratch behind the ears for me. God Bless and continue to stay safe, and Meow to Ninja Catscan.🤩💯❤👍👍
That Unit Crane rescue was top-notch viewing! One of my all-time favorite Jonathan W playlists. The "When In Doubt, Build it Stout!" ethos was in full effect on that truck frame.
I wouldn't say that you've done stupid stuff, Jonathan. I mean, you needed a crane, and you resurrected one. That was a good series, and this towbed swap is just as good. I think a brake component has broken inside the drum, and hangs up the axle on forward motion only. I'm sure you can fix it. 👍
Nanna scanned , the job is cleared to proceed 👍 The hand crank rigging dates back to the Roman days, towing cherriots😂😂some serious re-enforcing on that frame👍
You are a master of solving problems. Sometimes you have either build something or bring it back from the grave, but if it makes sense to you and it works out then that's what you had to do. That crane was a great investment for you and so will this wrecker. It will give you options on doing things you want to do. Looking forward to the next video.
The crane wasn't a stupid idea. It has proved itself to be a tough and dependable unit. You needed it, and if you ever need it again, you know where to find it. In fact I'm surprised it didn't get used to lift the tow truck beds.
If I had a dollar for every time you said "not a problem ", we would both be rich. The amazing thing is that you are always right. It never is a problem. The UNC owes you a honorary PHD in Engineering. And it's well-deserved just based on your practical knowledge. The things it would take a doctorate to figure out using formulas and calculations, you know instinctively just based on hands on knowledge. You continue to amaze me.
Jonathan, You are an inspiration to all of us work on our own projects and run into much lesser obstacles that set us back. Need more men in this world like you. Thanks Jonathan.
I'm sure you've figured it out by now but your brake springs are broken and letting the shoes act as a sprag. Sometimes if you have a leaky wheel cylinder it makes the shoes extra sticky and compounds the sprag effect... Just needs cleaned and new hardware and you'll be golden. Thanks for taking us along!
I've been watching your videos for year's. My wife likes to watch your videos of the stream engines. She thinks you have a fedish for steam engines. Is it the Ford for sale? Do you have the title?
I think what you need is a WW2 tank retriever. Basically a tank without a turret on it and it has a very heavy duty boom. A strip mine my father-in-law worked for had one they used to pull out stuck Cat dozers. It was a heck of a lot of fun to drive around in the dirt too
Man that's a sweet Chevy!! I'm in awe of the lack of rust, I don't remember the last time I saw an older truck as clean as that (besides when they were new) lol
Excellent video Johnathan W :) also amazing on 2 the 2 beds of Wreckers also on Chevrolet truck check on dauls ring plate that splits 2 wheels it maybe did put plus right why won't turn on back left 2 wheels right for Foward and backwards in Reverse seen that happen before! Also stronger frame supports sounds like person doing lots heavy duty weights tow vehicles or plus when GMC and Chevrolet had frame problems in early 2000 years when Bend in V or Broken back brand new ! You must remember that horrible problems in Gas or Desiel motor one's plus Z71 in 2 to 4 doors plus 2 or 4×4 versions of 1/2 , heavy duty 1/2 called 5/8 , 3/4 , 1 tons ! The other thing on frame make stronger was the company or owners of Chevrolet tow truck haul vehicles like Cube Vans had cargo in weights was on limits truck do or haul lots stake trucks too like 3 to 6 tons of highway when Broken down ! impressive what did I say for sure ! Hope my ideas help you out too !
There's nothing like a recovery with an "Armstrong" bed when you are sick with the summer flu. Boy that sucked and I hurled. The trooper kept asking if I needed EMS to look at me too. 😂😂
Jonathan, you are so humble. I'm sure that is why you are so endearing to us, you're faithful followers. You don't have a mean bone in your body. Your optimism is contagious. Always seeing the best of any situation. You are the man!
Holmes did make that bed in a 74" wide version for the 220 or 440 but most of them were 86" for dual wheels. I have never seen a 74" wide bed but they do mention it in the factory literature as being available.
Hey Jonathan, I can't find an email for you. I wanted to let you know about a corless steam engine I see for sale near me. It has a 12 foot fly wheel. Let me know how to get you a message. I'm not associated with it. I just thought I'd pass it on to you .
after seeing the other work they had done on the truck, they probably put the brake shoes in it wrong and left pieces out that are making it lock in one direction
Would have been good to see you use the Unit Crane to remove these beds, but I guess for you working alone the forklift was easier. Is there an adapter to bolt the pump onto the GM transmission?
I really would like to talk with Johnathan about an old car, I hate modern vehicles and looking for something old; I have no plans of restoring anything all the way back, I am old school kind of man and like simple things. I go to town maybe twice per month that bad thing is I live in Southern Indiana, wish I knew you when I lived in S. Carolina. I had a Ford truck a 1960 and I tried everything to get the left front wheel to roll and an old friend of mine told me it was probably the break line going to the wheel and when that was replaced it turned, I know Fords are really bad for that problem with the rubber break line breaking down on the inside like a flap and when you press on the break the fluid cannot come back up the line for release. I have never run into that problem again to this day but when you said you could not figure out why the wheel was locked up I though I would have you try that rubber hose to the hub. I love your shows! That old '49 Dodge I would love to talk shop with you about that car cause I have been looking for one like my Dad had but his was a '50 but in the late 1950's when he would go some where my brother and I would have to stand up behind the drivers seat because those old coupes come without a back seat; I am looking for one to drive and do not care of the looks of it. I am an expert with Bondo...
the suspension on those trucks is not good for a wrecker where the back either has no weight or a ton of weight. The tires go up and down on an arc. On the chevy it actually has proper suspension geometry
he explained before that the ford front suspension is not good for a wrecker. As far as just around the lot, I believe their turning radius was horrible
@@jonathanw4942 do you remember my 1958 Plymouth Suburban? Picture in my profile picture. You subscribed a few years ago. I was driving it until it lost total oil pressure! I appreciate your videos!

Enjoy a Jonathan video regardless of the subject matter …. rat rods, broken trucks, steam engines, saving a crane.
Priceless
Thank you
Nanna scanned , the job is cleared to proceed 👍

Those old wreckers are awesome looking! Let’s drag out the 4x4 wrecker when this one is done!
Wrecker was built by someone who actually used one and knew what needed to be done to bulletproof it.
Love your optimism. We’ll take care of it! Thanks for sharing. I assume the cat scan was OK.
Love that old Ford tow truck and your cat 😸

I've been with you for a long time, even watched all back videos. Never seen one I didn't like. Keep it up.
Thanks for the video Jonathan.

My dad had both types of those wrecker beds growing up both very good but the hydraulic so much handier in the salvage yard!
As always an interesting video, your abilities never fail to impress me Jonathan, thanks for sharing and stay safe.
Impressive how one Man can get through these projects.
Congratulations on your Studebaker win.
That was some driving.
Thanks.
No question! That is the worst looking tire, still holding air I have ever seen! I'd call Guiness, That night be a record they'd pay you for.

100% agree with U on that. Jonathan W does deserve a phd in engineering, with all he teaches.
Jonathan, You are an inspiration to all of us work on our own projects and run into much lesser obstacles that set us back. Need more men in this world like you. Thanks Jonathan.
nothing better than a cat scan to diagnose a problem!
Gotta have a kickit spot. "But. There's a problem". Love your vids.
....why am I silently singing "One Piece at A Time" by Johnny Cash in my head?
Same mechanic that worked on the transmission worked on the brakes, what else did they work on.
I sure would love to have that dentside Ford!
If you were closer I'd try to deal on that old 440 bed! Those are bullet proof old skool beds. Great vid!
It's fighting you. Enjoy your videos.
Awesome always cool stuff always thanks 😎
Looks like they reinforced that frame to lift steam engines.
There's always somethin going on at Jonathans place. Always something good too.
"The steam engine hauler"! 👍👏👌
What a nice sitting area surrounded by antiques
the cat is so cute ☺️
I'd love to buy that ford dually
Dropped a shoe or two, bet you
When you were picking up the whole back end of the Ford Wrecker, I thought, "Damn, that's a BEAST of a grounding strap". ;-)
Uh oh look out Nana's on the job!

Knew a fellow with an apc. He stuck a jeep body on top of it and did boat moving with it
Good going!!
You sure know how to stay busy. Wish I had half the ambition as you. Thanks for sharing Jonathan 👍🇺🇸
You can extend the cable boom...and then change the mechanical winch to electric...
Man that's a sweet Chevy!! I'm in awe of the lack of rust, I don't remember the last time I saw an older truck as clean as that (besides when they were new) lol
Always thinking, always tinkering ! Good job!
Very nice job Johnathan and Definitely great job who reinforcing the chassis
On another note I saw that auto evolution . picked up the footage on your Studebaker
Congratulations
Much respest6 for your ability's

Your mechanical knowledge is wild, doesn't seem like there is much you can't fix, build or make run.

THANKS fer the update. Lookin forward to more.
WAVIN a hand EH !!
That was a good idea stiffening up the frame. On the Chevy. Thanks for sharing the video. 👍

I had the same wheel lock up on a Squarebody cab and chassis. Just debris in the drum. Took it off put it back on and it was fine.
Be Safe Brother!!!
Possibly a brake shoe linings came loose or unbonded and jams the wheel from going forward. Seen it happen before.
Well you have Nana watching your stuff can't wait to see the crane when it's finished Johnboy.
Nana! Love you! JW you might be a genius! Great work!😊

I'll bet it's a broken brake return spring giving you problems!
Love the cat 😂
I have watched your videos for years have you ever said a problem was big or gave up on a project I wished I had your skill set
👍
You will never get bored and one man can out do cold war motors because we don't see you puffin the weed and slamming down alcohol!
i dont know the back story on this ford wrecker..but why not just get the ford running and use that??
after seeing the other work they had done on the truck, they probably put the brake shoes in it wrong and left pieces out that are making it lock in one direction
Would have been good to see you use the Unit Crane to remove these beds, but I guess for you working alone the forklift was easier. Is there an adapter to bolt the pump onto the GM transmission?
I thought the Ford and Chevy frames were different width.
Probably just me but I think that homes bed liked its Ford didn't wantna get put on a Chevy. Either way thanks for the content stay safe on the road.
Great video.... id love to find another old ford like that one.
Let's call him the amazing Jonathan.
sure is a neat cart, looks like a new fuel tank & pump on the chevy.
There's more to a Ford! /s Ford has a better idea! /s Better for whom?
Great video Jonathon , your a smart man when it to automotive
Did something major go wrong with the crane?
Central California watching
Got a nice pretty gas tank in there I never seen a blue one
Someone will want the old ford to make a flat bed out of!!
Nice job Jonathan…
Fantastic work
Sometimes the flexible break line to the hubs breakdown on the inside and causes a break to lockup

Catscan!!!
Hay Mr. Jhonethen.w what you did do is tern a rocker into a yeard forklift / yeard truck .why not build a steml truck
cool clip
i like it
❤✌️👍😎🇺🇲
👍
That's awesome! That ain't a bad looking truck. Looks like the frames beefy enough to do whatever you want with it
Johnathan I just love your videos the way you narrate them is Awesome Nana cat aint so bad either thanks from Vermont
I'm sure it'll be pretty sweet when you're done! Great seeing your videos.
Great video again, I love your content. It would be great if you could teach local students about steam engines at your property.
That tow truck was meant to work
Jonathan, do you read the comments? Would you give a short reply?
Yes I do.
@@jonathanw4942 do you remember my 1958 Plymouth Suburban? Picture in my profile picture. You subscribed a few years ago. I was driving it until it lost total oil pressure! I appreciate your videos!
Yes that is a sweet frame job 😀 so the other bed is younger but needs cleaning up a bit 😊
Do u have to ok it with ur wife? Nope just Nina😂
