Because of my RUclips medical education, I already fired my Drs. One didn't know what a CAC scan was and wouldn't order an Hba1c. I prefer RUclips Drs. like yourself. Keto since December of 2019 and now ketovore/carnivore. No meds and haven't been sick. I'm 70 and sprinting. 😊 Thank you for teaching us!
I’ve been to four in the last two years and none of them knew what an APOB was. All they do is look at my LDL. They all push the food pyramid and tell me to eat my fruit and more carbs and take more insulin. They said keto carnivore’s going to kill me. I’ve been refusing statins since 2009. The last doctor, did the fear factor, and said; I’m just going to call the cardiologist so they can be ready for you when you show up at the hospital. And I said; ok I’d like to go see what’s actually going on in my chest. Went to a functional medicine doctor and it’s the first time anybody’s ever check my insulin levels Plus a TON of more blood work Then any doctor has ever done!
The same story over and over. Been firing doctors for the last 12 years. Finding one seems hopeless. Educating myself and taking great care of myself is my only option. Thank you for your videos. We really need them.
770+ lbs (ERR on scales) - failed many diets and lap band surgery. Type 2 diabetic - eyesight failing, neuropathy in feet to name a few complications. I found carnivore and within 2 years I've lost 495 lbs and I'm currently 275 lbs. And my doctor tells me "WHEN YOU FAIL, come back and let's talk about weight loss surgery". Carnivore isn't just a diet; it's become a way of life and completely transformed my life. AND YES!! I FIRED MY DOCTOR!
Thank you Dr Ovadia for getting us patients educated enough to "coach" our doctors. Living in a rural area I have no choices to find a metabolic doc within 100 miles. My recent blood work showed HDL at 68, Trig's at 74, LDL 177. Of course she wanted me on a statin. I said no and asked for a CAC scan and a further breakdown on my LDL particle sizes. Surprisingly she said okay and ordered the tests! So maybe we can work with some of these doctors caught up in the matrix.
Hi Dr Ovadia. A few days ago you were on a live stream with Alia Wells and I asked about what I would do if my CAC score wasn't 0. I've been low carb/keto for about 9 years, Carnivore for the last 14 months. Metabolic numbers are excellent, but of course that pesky LDL is high. I'm happy to report that my CAC score is... 0. I'm turning 58 on Friday March 1. I'm slightly younger than my mother was before she was diagnosed with T2D. She passed away of congestive heart failure in 2021. Something will eventually get me, but it won't be complications from T2D. Thank you for all you do.
Great information! Finding a suitable doctor is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I asked my doctor to check my fasting insulin and she didn’t know what that was.
The parts of your video that had no music were far more enjoyable please reconsider using unnecessary noise in your videos and maybe your editors can make the videos easier to listen to. The information is very valuable and otherwise very well presented
Thank you Mr Ovadia! Thank you for being part of this great group of "real doctors" helping to educate us in real health "care"! I watch and share A LOT of your material. We are changing lives.
New subscriber here. Enjoyed the video. I have a great PCP.........my cardiologist....not so much. He is singularly focused on one thing and one thing only......LDL. I need a better cardiologist.
Excellent video and your information is to the point and that’s what I was debating with my doctors is to address the life style or the function medicine in taking the whole body as a system rather than a component approach. I strongly believe that our approach to medicine must be the practice of Preventative Medicine rather than bandaged medicine which is being reactive to the symptoms, if we all are proactive towards our health it makes doctor’s lives much easier, my entire family is in medicine and this the field that I discuss all the times. I am 67 went through a triple bypass in 2018, I only take 1 pill for my BP from 3 different agents at one point, reversed my diabetes and workout 6 to 7 days a week either hiking or at the gym, it has taken my own personal endeavors to reach where I am, my Triglycerides to HDL ratio is less than 1 all achieved through life style changes with no statins in the picture. Thx so much for putting out a very informative video and people or doctors like yourself make a huge difference that is a doctor is a healer first before any specialist.

I started making the distinction between lipid panel quantities and quality a couple of years ago. You're the first independent source to mention that. Thanks for the reinforcement!
So far, I’ve had great success with my physicians being open to my info & requests. They have also been helpful in making sure labs & tests are covered by my insurance. It’s all in the documentation and how they choose to word it while remaining objective & clinically accurate.

Thank you so much for such detailed information- helping to question and understanding what a Dr should be addressing and not glossing over. Through you, I now understand how thorough my PCP has been vs my cardiologist. Than you!
I had a recent calcium score of 450. I’m a 70 yo male. I exercise 3 to 5 times per week for 45 years. Gave up smoking 35 years ago. I drink red wine about 2 glasses per day. I am careful with my diet. Had high cholesterol most of my life. Chol. 5.6. Trig 1.1 HDL-C. 1.3 LDL-C 3.8
@@michelleduncan9965 not the wine. It’s the decades of a supposedly great diet. I’m now carnivore. My doctor doesn’t agree but it was taking advice from doctors about diet and food pyramid rubbish that got me a high CAC.
Hey Doc. I found you on RUclips recently and thought I’d tell you about my circumstances. I live in the U.K., I have just turned 60 and was recently invited for my “annual diabetes check”. The nurse took my blood pressure four times and mumbled that it was a bit high. She then weighed me and told me I was overweight, before taking a blood sample. A week later I received a text saying my doctor needed to talk to me about the results. A week after that I received a call with the opening question; “ what are your thoughts about statins”. I told her I didn’t think much of them and she went on to tell me that I am a one in three chance of having a heart attack. When I said I would rather approach it by fixing it naturally, she almost insisted that I wouldn’t be able to change anything. This was followed up by her telling me that my cholesterol was high, at 6.4 and would undoubtably enhance my chances of a heart attack. In the week since, I have changed my diet and have already lost weight. I always sleep for a decent amount of hours and I am now exercising.. I just wondered what your thoughts were concerning my health. I don’t drink alcohol, don’t smoke and only use inhalers for asthma. There is no direct history of heart disease. Thanks in advance. Tony

From what I hear.My GP and cardiologist are not doing much for me..They seem to be ok just giving pills out.I'm against this and years ago did a total natural food diet, exercise and plenty of sleep. The more I stay away from them the better I feel.
Family doctor in Canada. I’m very interested in lifestyle/preventative medicine as well as functional medicine. Would love to know Dr. Ovadia is interested in mentoring?😅🙋🏾♂️
My Dr is taking note. I have been mostly intermittent fasting for about 15 years and lowish carb since diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes. My HbA1c has been normal ever since. I was on blood pressure med for about 2 years. Stopped due to normal BP at Christmas time. BP remains normal. Started carnivore Jan. Inc LDL in Feb bloods. Chol triglyceride ratio very good. She knew I didn't want to take stats so organised a Calcium Score. Result was 23.6. Not zero but for someone who is almost 75, no diabetes, no hypertension, calcium not in "important" vessels of heart. (I have known about small bit of plaque in Carotid artery in neck for about 15 years, no change after 10 years). Dr very happy with result. No further mention of Statins.

I would encourage all American Keto/Carnivore eaters to vote this fall in elections and support people like the Amish farmer Amos Miller who is being targeted by the PA Dept of Agriculture. Multinational big food and big pharma are using government regulators to strip us of quality locally produced food that agrees with our diet and needs! Please get out and vote, make your voice heard about your desire for quality local food from family farms! I don't want WEF bugs in my diet!

I have MVD. 88 SVTs detected with Holter. I have 40 to 50% blockage in LAD. Was very successful with weight reduction from 420 to 174 with Keto then Carnivore. However since I've been on Metoprolol my previously reduced A1C is back to 5.6. I had successfully reduced it to 4.2 with diet after being pre-diabetic for 35 years. I've also gained over 50 lbs on Metoprolol while eating exactly the same as had successfully improved all my health markers including CAC down from 642 to 432. I've been switched to Carvedilol. With no improvement. On both, I've had extreme insomnia that I haven't been able to control with, Benedryl, magnesium, melatonin and a 10000 lux therapy light daily. Can you suggest an alternative medication to Metoprolol and Carvedilol that I can speak to my Cardiologist about?
@@Malcolm-Achtman "Coronary microvascular disease (sometimes called small artery disease or small vessel disease) is heart disease that affects the walls and inner lining of tiny coronary artery blood vessels that branch off from the larger coronary arteries. Coronary heart disease (CHD), also called coronary artery disease, involves plaque formation that can block blood flow to the heart muscle. In coronary MVD, the heart's coronary artery blood vessels don't have plaque, but damage to the inner walls of the blood vessels can lead to spasms and decrease blood flow to the heart muscle. In addition, abnormalities in smaller arteries that branch off of the main coronary arteries may also contribute to coronary MVD."

So I had a calcium score test and then the other test which shows up all plaques. so I have 2 plaques 25% and one place 25-45% plaque. I took my doctors advise and lost 10kgs. I changed my eating habit. No carbs and no sugar. I only eat 2 meals a day and I exercise and mix socially. My cardiologist put me on statins. Now 4 months later my LDL is 3 and all other lipids good. My HBA1C was high before and am just waiting for the results of another blood test 3 months on. Should I be on statins for the plaques or will my lifestyle change address this issue. I would really love to be off statins. blood pressure 120/70 and have been on metformin for 1 year 500mg. Please are the statins used for plaques or high cholesterol?

I recently had a sinus infection that caused an inflammation episode in the muscles around my heart. Had an MRI, after enduring a cath and 2 day hospital stay. I lost my job because of this incident. Hi I'm a 39 year old male - home cooked diet largely vegetarian-high legumes and fibre and eggs, 15-16 hrs intermittent fasting every day, daily exercise, very low alcohol, non smoker etc. I have normal hb1ac (5.0), normal blood pressure, CAC Score of 0. Triglycerides 93, HDL 56, LDL 179, VLDL 19, APOb 116, APOb/APOa1 0.7, hsCRP 5.8 ( although measured with viral cough and cold symptoms). Perfectly fit and healthy overall, testosterone total 859. My doc has advised me to start STATINS immediately since I'm apparently on a high risk of heart attack. Please advise.

I’ve been on a carnivore diet for over six months now and I feel terrific and have reversed a few issues in my body. Of course my LDL went up a little bit to 136 and when we talked about statins, which I will never go on, I wanted to know if we could find out what kind of LDL and the density and they said they typically do not do those tests. Is there somewhere I can do this without my doctor’s prescription? Meanwhile, my triglycerides went down to 59 and A1c of 5.7. And the bloodwork also stated that the heart ratio of 3.3 is ideal and mine was down to 2.7. Why do doctors have to fight digging a little deeper? Of course it’s greed and corrupt.
I have high blood pressure since I was in my late 30s everyone in my family has and I am now 70 years old female and I’ve been on medicine and my doctor just says my blood pressure is fine and I keep asking her questions and she refuses to discuss it with me. I live in a little town And there’s not many doctors and I’m trying to do low carb and and carnivore diet but I’m not sure what to eat on that if it’s just all meat or vegetables too, how much Does it cost to talk to you?
Important is low carb to get you BP down. Slowly reduce to under 50g carbs/ day. Slowly, because when your BP falls over time with less carbs and you stay on your BP medication, you might get too low and pass out. Bit by bit reduce medication. Best would be you can regularly measure your BP, so you know where it is and adjust medication. Slowly means probably at least over a few month.... If you go low carb add fat, as you will need the energy from it to replace the missing carbs. Less so if you also want to lose weight. Start in the direction of keto: meat, fish, egg, cheese, butter & veggies ( leafy greens, less roots, as they store energy there in form of carbs). I am not a doctor, so educate yourself, if no Dr is there to help, and try do do everything safely.
If you are wanting to try carnivore, I would recommend lowering carbs slowly at first before switching to carnivore. Be sure to check your BP often as you are on medication. Also if you take other medications, especially blood sugar lowering meds. Many great RUclips doctors in the low carb arena. As far as food, ditch the stuff from the middle of the store. In addition to what @hamsterbox4732 says, don't eat fruit or any sweetened beverage. Be aware carbs are in things like Ketchup, etc. so read labels. In today's world we have to be our own best advocate. Best of luck.
@@hamsterbox4732 what you say lower carbs ... do you think people are reacting to bread pasta rice potatoes not salads .. cause when you say 50 g carb that is greens? Veggies???

I think there is another side to this too -- the patient side as well. You have to listen to your doctor as well. You may feel like they are not telling you enough or doing enough, but I've seen some cases where the patient was "selectively" listening let's say. They wanted to hear the good, but ignored the bad" like when the topic of cholesterol for example would come up, and ways they can reduce that. Or they listen but don't act. So be sure that you're an active part of the discussion too. To a point, if the patient doesn't want to change, the the doctor can only do so much. So people should also keep that in mind as well. You can get all the good advice and have a good doctor, and yo ucan say "Yeah, I can do that" but if you don't, then really you're wasting people's time. You have to be proactive yourself, as well as your doctor, in actively maintaining and improving your health and I learned this a bit the hard way to be honest.
It's really unfortunate that if a CAC test is so important for assessing heart health than why isn't it covered by insurance? It costs 250.00 near me to get this done. Also, if a CGM is so important why can't I get one without such high monthly costs?? I would do both but it is too much money. Sad. And I pay hundreds of dollars a month in insurance premiums yet none of it is covered under it. Insane!!!
I totally understand your frustration. Shop around on the CAC different providers charge different amounts. You could get a CGM through theiahealth.ai/c/ifixhearts

Is eating grapefruit a bad idea? I know you are not a fan of fruit. Is this also a case where it depends on your metabolic health? How does a grapgruit compare to other fruits?
Drs in the Uk all seem to be reactive rather than proactive, and even then, they don’t react when you have abnormal blood markers, telling us they’re all normal!!! They failed to pick up my pernicious anaemia for many years even after twice testing positive for intrinsic factor antibodies. During lockdown I had all the red flags for PA (low B12, low folate, high MCV and high MCH), but was told to lose weight and there was nothing wrong with me. I was severely ill and they still said they couldn’t do anything. I was diagnosed a year later by my endocrinologist! I’m so scared of their “lazy doctor by numbers, but then ignore the numbers and completely ignore the symptoms” type doctoring, that even though I’m worried about my heart, I’m reluctant to go and speak to them. I turned my metabolic health around two years ago - after the dr told me to lose weight. I did my research and went keto. I reversed T2D, NAFLD, hypertension and obesity and lost 98 lb. My dr said “congratulations, but stop what you’re doing right now. It’s dangerous. You need to go back to eating carbs again”!!! Stupidly, I took his advice and my HbA1c has been steadily creeping up again. I’m worried about heart failure as I get regular chest pains and palpitations and have developed a strange cough that comes out of nowhere and doesn’t seem to be triggered by something environmental. They don’t listen to my concerns whenever I do go to see them about something, and apparently all the local surgeries are as bad as one another. The hospital isn’t much better. I had to go to A&E (your ER) a while back with crippling chest pains. I waited four hours to be triaged, then another two hours before any tests were done, then it was 15 hours from arriving when they sent me somewhere else for more tests. Fortunately it wasn’t a heart attack, but had it been, I probably would have died in the waiting area. I’m so tired of the shoddy service, none of which is patient centred. They simply want to dole out big pharma medications to everybody rather than get to the root cause of the problem. They keep insisting I take a statin, but having been on one years ago and suffering really bad side effects, I refuse to take them. I don’t know what to do.
what if i have already have been diagnosed with cvd and had DVT years ago along with a liver transplant then heart bypass surgery , was put on statins and then diagnosed with diabetes which led to use of insulin. Since going on a ketogenic diet with my wife i have since stopped insulin and statins with the exception of zetia which doc insists on. Recent hospital stay found blockages and docs put in 2 heart stents. Feeling better but still uneasy about how to work with my cardiologist since he insisted to keep my bp low 40bpm with several medications that i know have many side effects plus he wants to use statins. also using coumaden for blood clot issues I am stuck with a complicated medical history and dont trust my cardiologist very much (also had pacemaker installed recently PLEASE ADVISE

I've complained to my Dr about chest pain, heart feeling like it's having trouble followed by breathing issues when the episodes happen , and feeling like my heart skipping a beat. I've had an ecg done that came back with sinus bradycardia. And holter monitor showed some cardiac changes, (rare pvcs). The cardiologist on the report suggested to rule out ischemic heart disease. (Im in my 30's and have been eating healthier past 2 months). But my doctor wants me to check my bp reading morning and night and see if there any changes and if there is she will prescribe something on my next appt. Now i have an appt with internal medicine in April but my question is.. if my doctor says my bp is low and wants me to take something, should i? Or should i ask for more testing first to see the root of the problem? What would you recommend? Thank so much

I was told not to check my BG at home and only rely on my hba1c which is every 3 months. I’m T2 diabetic and I told him not to be silly as I need to see what food spikes my sugars. And every time I speak to him he wants to put me on statins. Luckily I didn’t follow the ‘Eatwell plate’ (I live in the UK) and found you, Dr Ken Berry, Dr Robert Cywes and Kelly Hogan as well as a bunch of others following low carb and Carnivore. Thank you for your great videos 🙌🏻

I like to eat 3 times a day... l don't know if having eggs daily is good?? Also if nit grass fed .. non much on that in Canada Do you do meat as in chicken? @@joanneclark8256 ‘The Eatwell plate’ is a guide her in Uk supposed to be healthy eating but it’s loaded with carbs. Eggs are very good for you and a good source of protein. I have 3 hens and eat 3-4 eggs a day for lunch (I don’t eat breakfast). I also eat chicken, lamb, beef and pork but not many vegetables. I’m lucky that I don’t have a dairy intolerance so eat cheese as well

I am most stumped by how to find such a doctor, or at least cardiologist. It’s not like you can interview one first. I drove 4 hours after waiting two months for an appoint for the closest low carb cardiologist I could find after months of off and on searching, and without even looking at my blood pressure that had just been taken, said I probably had high blood pressure, and with minutes was talking about blood pressure medication, blood thinners, and statins. I was furious daily for months every time I thought of that guy. And I thought he would be better than my previous cardiologist I stopped seeing once I began educating myself. I’m just trying to determine whether Afib is metabolic, or something else entirely, but certainly won’t trust the answer from either one of these two. If it’s going to be a roll of the dice, maybe the youngest one I can find?

Question..I was hospitalized last March. Had a normal ECG but the ER provider said there was a concern related to the blood vessels in my heart. He requested to get a Myocardial Perfusion test. Insurance denied it…been carnivore (90 percent) since last January. Should I be very concerned? Thank you Dr Ovadia!

Wow, you rock for a youngster!
Excellent, thanks for sharing.

Wow. An inspiration
Your lipid panel is excellent. There's no need to go any further here. Your A1c must also be in order as well.

That's good to know! You're welcome!

Same w my cardiologist. Will never visit him again.

Can you eleborate on those numbers ?
Are they good or bad ?
Stop the wine.
@@fob3476 all good because now I’m carnivore.

What is MVD?
With respect to the SVTs, have you tried eliminating sources of stimulants, especially caffeine?
@Malcolm-Achtman I suffer with insomnia from the beta blocker that I take. So I avoid caffeine and any other stimulant.

Is there another way to know a calcium score instead of a CAC, if I already have several stents?
No kidding. I had swollen ankles, couldn't lay down to sleep, and had zero cardio (was used to walking 4 - 6 miles a day). Doc said not to worry, it was allergies. Three weeks later had a triple CABG. Not the first time I've seen doctors really blow the diagnosis in my family.

Keep up the great work!

Let's discuss your options. Please feel free to book a call with our metabolic health coordinator ifixhearts.com/talk/

I did the advanced lipid panel and my SDLDL is super high. Yellow is good. My triglycerides are low on glucose. Is it within normal limits? I’m getting a CAC in about a month so obviously a little concerned about my numbers. My blood pressure primarily stays below 130/85 although there will be times where it goes up, don’t know if it’s from anxiety or not. At what point do I consider taking medication? I’m currently on a carnivore diet last year pretty strict for six months last 20 pounds improved carnivore over the winter for the next six months but now I’m back on it.

I am 66 year old male, low BMI, very good BP, active, non smoker/drinker clean diet mostly vegan. My cholesterol is around 240. My pc doc suggested a calcium scan before suggesting a statin drug since she knew I didn’t want to take any. The score came in at 460. I started Crestor 10 mg for 90 days and do all life style changes that I have been doing all my life.
After a couple weeks I went to a Cardiologist he said I have a 84 year old heart and update my dose to 40 mg, ordered a stress test( not taken yet)I am not comfortable with him and may stick with pc doctors plan.
Is it safe to go back to 10 mg after being on 40 for two weeks?
Any other thoughts would be appreciated?
