    I can not express enough how happy I was to find this video. I'm going through the same thing right now. Don't know for sure yet if I'll get it done, but I know this is going to help. Thanks so much for posting this!

      Thank you very much for the feedback , I hope the video can help others out . These transmissions are easy to find and pretty cheap. The replacement went a lot easier than I thought it would . Everything went smoothly. Best of luck on it sir and thanks again for watching

      Was there any issues with the computer recognizing it? I had heard that I would have to have the sensors and computer reset or something?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  5 лет назад +1

      No , no issues at all with the computer so far it's working flawlessly . Seems like I'd heard that somewhere myself but thankfully it's not the case. I had to put 9 quarts of atf+4 to get filled up . They drain quite a bit out for shipping but they still don't get it all. Thanks again

    12:47 quite a bit of oil. Valve cover gaskets?
    I just finished replacing my 2001 steering gear, tie rod ends, control arms, sway bar bushings and end links, calipers and pads.
    Had to drop the subframe to do the steering gear.
    Then my new steering gear leaked and when replacing it with another under warranty, I found the bushings bad on the new cross arms. Also a warranty replacement.
    Preloading your knuckle to simulate the actual ride height is crucial before torquing down the cross arms. I only ran the car a week when the steering failed.
    Everything is replaced and working and my manual transmission starts making grinding, wearing noises while in gear and driving.
    So here we go with dropping the transmission to see what the deal is.
    Being four years after you posted this, used transmissions are more like $800 on eBay.
    So we will see what's up with the tranny and go from there.
    I was hoping after a few thousands in parts, I would get a bunch more years out of it and no crazy car payments. Interest rates on car loans here in the future are crazy high.

      Inflation has sure hit the car parts in recent years for sure and car prices are even worse. Great job , sounds like you have put a lot of work into your car. Hope all well and it stays running for years. Thanks for the feedback.

    Sometimes dropping the entire engine chassis seems like more work, but it makes easier work.

    You think they bolted a lot on that you should try this on the turbo model ... The CV shafts are two pieces in the passenger side and there's even less room because of the turbo plumbing

    Do you remember about how long this job took you? Replacing my wife's soon and not sure if a weekend will be plenty of time or if I should tell her two weekends.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  Год назад +1

      It depends on how many hours you put in. If I have everything and there are no issues , I can replace it in 2 days. Thats working about 6 hours per day. A weekend would be pushing it , because like murphys law anything that can go wrong often does. I would want atleast 4 days , this allows time for planning , labeling , organizing, cleanup, test driving etc. Projects will go smoothly if you have time to keep everything organized and planning ahead. Thank you for the feedback.

    Hello sir one question do you know if a 2004 transmission fits a 2009 pt cruiser?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  4 года назад +3

      2001-2005 would interchange 2006-2010 will interchange. 2006-2010 use the same 41te transmission as 2001-2005 but they made changes and added Variable Line Pressure , the valve body would be different and an extra electrical connection. So the 2009 would not work with a 2004 or the reverse if its automatic. Now the manual transmission would fit all years as far as I know. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

    i removed the trans from engine and the torque convertor stayed on the engine -did i break anything as it just came apart that way?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  3 года назад +1

      If the bolts are removed holding it to the flywheel then it must be stuck somehow . I have had the torque converter try to pull out with the engine and just carefully pushed it back into the transmission with my hand or screw driver. It does happen from time to time nothing to worry about. Its not a bad idea to replace the torque converter seal while you are in there seeing how they are cheap. But if it looks fine and has not been leaking it is not necessary. Thanks for watching.

    ok any advice would be greatly appreciated, my pt out of the blue just went ape crap, while driving the battery light came on, stereo went off, tac went way up and engine raced loud like being in neutral. error code was something like 0500 , freaked me out, then went back to normal,, little while later done it again and again, more gas i gave it, worse itd get - feeling sad.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  4 года назад +1

      With that code it sounds like a speed sensor or something with the transmission. However with the lights and electronics going haywire it seems power related . Possibly battery or alternator . You can easily check the voltage output of the alternator and also check the battery with a volt meter. It is very odd I would start with the battery and then alternator. Then go to checking wires ( disconnect the negative cable 1st ) for bare spots or loose connections. Pay particular attention to the wire running to the alternator you have get under the car to see it make sure theres no bare spots or places it could be shorting out . If all the wires connectors nothing touching or grounding out then I would probably check fuses and then relays. Anyways just some places to start and I hope this helps . I had a pt cruiser with a shorted out wire that was going to the alternator. It was loose and somehow melted the insulator off the alternator. I rememeber it doing really crazy things. Anyways best of luck on yours and thank you for watching.

    "New" transmission has been installed and I'm having two issues. 1 when in park linkage is not in correct position to start, i have to move it forward one click by hand to get ignition. 2 once started starter stays engaged and immediately burns up. Have burned up 3 starters now. The last only running for less than a minute. Any help would be appreciated

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  2 года назад

      Very strange issue for sure. I would focus on wiring , sounds like there is a short near or at the starter. Shorts can cause weird issues so may be its related to the park/start issue. If a different issue I would say something off with the shifter cable or different shift linkage/lever. Hope this helps , thanks for the feedback.

    I may be at the point where I need to replace the transmission in mine. You stated early on in the video, the transmission you purchased had only 20,000 miles. Was this from a vehicle that had been in an accident? I'm looking on Ebay and seeing transmissions being sold from cars that appear to have been in accidents/wrecks. Is that a red flag? If the transmission you purchased had only 20,000 miles was it from a wrecked vehicle and does that matter? I'm having a hard time believing that a car with only 20,000 miles would be sold for parts unless it was a wrecked car. I appreciate your advise on this.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  Год назад

      Most of the time they are wrecked , it could be a car with a bad engine. Some cars have parts only titles so they may be intact. Either way ebay is a good source with their money back guarantee. I will usually still look for the better seller rating though. Thanks for watching.
