At 35:28 I express confusion around what controller is compatible with what lights. Hex ezCAN is compatible with any light, including Moto Lights which are controllable via the ezBUS (Data) and all Denali Lights which is PWM. Lone Rider MotoCAN is also compatible with any light, including Moto Lights which are controllable via the ezBUS (Data) and all Denali Lights which is PWM. Denali CANSmart will control any light with PWM (3 wires) and any 2 wire light (without PWM) but it will not control any light that's controlled over ezBUS (data)
I can’t not say this: You are so, so different from the typical dealer profile. Your RUclips channel feels more like an academy than a promotional channel. You share incredibly valuable information, and most importantly, you do so with impartiality. Thank you for all of this.
Lone Rider aftersales is amazing. I bought almost all their products by now and have had contact with Anna and Andrew a few times. Always super helpful and kind. My first purchase was the MotoBags and I ripped the outer bag open a month or two after buying them. A big gash. Still not sure how, I might have caught onto something, a branch, sharp fence or something. But they immediately sent out a new replacement outer bag. Great service and I have been devowed to them ever since.
Steve, I am proud to be called one of your customers. I have purchased several items from you, to include the Ammo Guard. I was impressed with the customer service communication you provided as the promised date for pre-orders came and the product wasn’t up to your standards. You kept your valued customers informed despite unplanned delays. It is with this standard that I believe you will continue to be a top provider of moto products.
The greatest advantage of Motolight is its ability to save circuits and consolidate multiple accessories on a single ezCAN system. A standout feature of the Motolight is that it’s essentially four lights in one, yet it uses just a single circuit. This makes the smart Motolight the ultimate winner in terms of efficiency and functionality. I have my Motolight connected via ezBUS, along with the Denali D3 lights with orange lenses connected to one circuit , which I use as daytime running lights. Additionally, my setup includes the SoundBomb horn and a B3 brake light. Previously, I ran both Denali D7 and D3 lights as my running lights. When the D7 Pro was released, I considered upgrading but couldn’t go through with it, as doing so would have meant ditching the D3 lights-a compromise I wasn’t willing to make. The R 1300’s rear indicators are notoriously dim, so I’m planning to add Denali T3 lights soon to serve as rear indicators. Remarkably, all of this is managed seamlessly on a single ezCAN!
Thank you for your comment. Being devils advocate….if that’s its greatest advantage then this is not the right reason to have them from a be seen, be safe perspective. It’s 💯 its greatest advantage based on a tech perspective. I’m probably more excited by it than lone rider themselves as I’ve been working with lights much longer. Are you aware of the Weiser wizard dongles for the rear light configuration on the GS?
Bought a headlight protector for a 1200GS LC 4 years ago, needed some rubber grommets that got teared from time, emailed Lone Rider support and got a package a week after, top notch support from Lone Rider, they are really up to their game
If I lived in EU (or GB) I would buy from A Bike Thing. The amount of time they spent on informative videos alone makes it worth it to me. I purchased the Denali D7Pros thanks to a video from you guys. And installation was a breeze thanks to you guys. I am also very impressed with the new items Lone Rider are coming out with. Might even have to get one of their tents so I can sleep with my bike :)
Great video once again, Steve! Apart from selling stuff, you really give us great insight on the products and considerations before we would buy stuff. The comparisons are super useful. I already bought the MotoLights in the first pre-order and have been running them ever since, I love them! I agree the DRL could be brighter, but I'm OK with that. The looks are amazing and I don't want to be blinding people like car LED DRL's nowadays do. The price difference is a valid point too, I got them for €470 a pair.
Hi Steve, I am in Australia and ordered a new motocase from Lone Rider. I am in Western Australia. When the case arrived I found the bracket didn't suit my GS 1250. I have the adventure luggage rack fitted so I should have ordered the rack for the Adventure version. I emailed Anne at Lone Rider and received a fast response advising I send the bracket I have back to an address in Melbourne Victoria. I did do and received the replacement adventure bottom bracket within 3 weeks. So my experience was very positive and I received great service.
We’ve discussed that before and you would agree that if you want to run the D7 pro in a very optimal way you don’t need 3 but 4 circuits ! Yes, if you don’t you will loose at night the capacity of deleting the white lights (low or full beam) on the same side when indicating, therefore masking the flashing amber midline lights supplanted by the surrounding withe ones. You could say, if I have only 3 circuits I can delete white lights on both sides in order to let the turning lights show up, but then you lose all the benefits of clear night vision (low or full beam totally off) whenever indicating. And that’s the very reason you’ve always advocated mounting S4, D4, and so on, on two different circuits in order to have the ability to cancel them independently on the turning side.
The funny thing is that I tend to subscribe more to European motorcycle channels like BikeSocial, Motolegends, and this channel than the American counterparts, and I'm from the U.S.
I was so looking forward to this video, more than your equation with LR what I was expecting was actual comparison videos. your last videos on D7 vs D4 vs D3 etc have been helpful in side by side comparison, this should have been that and not a public post to LR telling them to sort out the equation. Sorry but still a big fan on all minus this.
I was purchased everything from you in the last 2 years even the GS911 and I'm very happy with your customer service and the extremely fast shipping even I'm living in the states!
A great review, I appreciate the time and effort you have spent. For me the main reason for using auxiliary lights on my bike is the wildlife. In my opinion the Moto Light spot light would actually be a disadvantage. It only lightens the middle of the road, but due to the long range it would force one to switch to low beam earlier for oncoming trafic, thus leaving you exposed for longer time with low beam only.
Great video again. Already in September I did what you suggested here, bought the Ezcan at Bike Thing, and the Motolights from Lone Rider (late December batch still to be delivered). But you have a point in this video. In case I change bike, I need to choose an Ezcan-compatible bike, in order to continue using Motolights.
The good news is Hex are always continually developing ezcan controllers for popular bikes. As long as you stay on premium canbus driven popular bikes, you’ll be fine.
Steve, I would strongly suggest to get the admore ezlink, great addition. you will be able to control any lights / indicators / brake lights with it on the ezbus provided current isn’t above its limit.
PWM is the way an LED is controlled. LED shine by pulsing, not like traditional lights, that's why LED are so current-saving. By increasing the PWM signal the LED just pulses faster, making it shine brighter and vica versa. Each brand is using the same technology... they have to, cause that's how LED work! The difference there is just the controlling. While Denali most likely sends the PWM directly from their control unit, it appears that LoneRider sends a CAN-message to the lights and inside those there is then the CAN-controller, the hardware that generates the PWM signal and so on. Another CAN-message sent by the HEX is able to change the color and so on
A very informative video Steve.I called into your place earlier this year and bought a pair of D3 lights and Soundbomb for my Desert x,great advice and super easy for me to fit. If you had been asked, which would you have recommended then,Lone Rider or Denali?I may have gone for the Lone Rider because of the halo ring DRL which match the bikes lights, however after watching your vid I’m glad I went with the Denalis. Have a good Christmas.
Hi Steve I bought my Motolights on the first release date, I did have software problems in the fact that all of the light were out of sequence, Loanrider did rectify the issue, but it did take time messaging back and forth on WhatsApp, wasn’t really ideal as it did take time, and would have been better if I could have was dealing with a smaller dealer, also the light pod itself wasn’t a perfect fit as when fitted to the supplied bracket there was half a hole showing on the bracket, don’t know if on being too picky tho. Loving your work mate👍👍
Missed a trick there Steve, So ideally in the spirit of safety, a D2 bundle fitted on an EZCan with the Motolights will provide that additional daytime visibility😜 Nice Panerai Bronzo by the way, I was like a Cat watching a torch beam throughout the video trying to see what it was.
Yes and you could do this with the d7 pros too but based on the fact these are multi functional dual beam premium lights…… they should do it all without further assistance from another pair. A second pair of D2’s with D7P’s wouldnt take any more circuits up either. Blu Abisso PAM01074. Taken me over 10 years to find a brand new bronzo. Rare as…. Come close many times to buying a used one but happy I stuck it out. This particular one was not allowed to be sold to me unless I already owned another Panerai? I love stuff like that. Thanks for noticing.
I have a 2014 BMW k1600 exclusive. Can you tell me how to mount these pods to my bike or if you make a bracket for them? I do not want to remove the factory lower fog lights.
Here’s your question translated into English: “Hi, I really enjoyed your video! I wanted to ask, if I have a 1300GS Adventure, is it very difficult to install any of the lights you compared? Do I need to remove the entire tank? Thank you for your reply!”
Hi Steve. It's a pity that I am not living in UK (but France), otherwise you would have made a Christmas tree of my R1300 GS Adventure. Thank you for all your videos and fair comments of the products you speak about. Enjoy your day. Kind regards. Jean-Pierre
With all of the different levels on the Lone Rider are you not going to have difficulty working out what level the lights are on (especially at lower levels) when sat on the bike?
An excellent comparison. I’m glad you changed your mind about which light was more effective at night. The D7s definitely had a better designed beam with a brighter but broader centre hot spot. But, looking at your video, to me, both lights are not as broad in the beam as they might be. I run a pair of Baja Designs XL80 wide/driving combo lights and although they haven’t quite got the reach of the Denali’s or LRs they definitely have a more homogenous and broader beam, ideal for Skippy country :) Unfortunately I can’t attach an image here but I will email you a couple so you can see what I mean. Geoff
I went with ruby moto as their customer engagement is second to none and the value was incredible (black friday). Plus I got them in two days while the Denali and LR are still back ordered. Ruby are fairly simple without the three different beams maybe, but work good for me. Denali took their sweat time shipping my b6 brake light and wasn’t responsive to my asking where it was.
Excellent presentation and explanation. I’ve been keeping a lookout at these new Motolights (because I like their functionality) and the fact that they operate with less cabling. I noticed, and agree with you, re the light spread, which you revisited and altered your findings on. The D7’s definitely look to give a smoother and better dispersed light, but the one thing I noticed is that the Motolights are mounted lower on the GSA than the D7’s on the GS. I know you initially had the GSA on a higher level to compensate for this but when you were riding around the lights were obviously closer to the ground on the GSA. I have the last of the 1250 GSA’s and if I went for the Motolights they’d be fitted higher up on an under nose mount and I’m wondering if this slightly higher position would help to blend and disperse the light pattern on the ground in a slightly smoother way? It might make no difference, but I can’t help but wonder. Also, how easy is it to set the pair so that the spot beams converge as the manufacturer intends them to, and how do you determine the height of the spot? It obviously can’t be too high, or too low, so I’m thinking that there must be a distance related requirement (but what distance) for the beams to effectively converge for the most optimum illumination. Edited for my typos 🙄
It's official I'm only 10 minutes into this video and I've just realized I am "A Bike Thing" SNOB! I don't trust any information until I hear it from "A BIKE THING". Thank you for all you do!
Hi Steve. I've got the Moto Lights on order and quite excited about them. You didn't say how your were going to be able to supply the Moto Lights as they haven't agreed to make you a dealer yet. I'm sure they will rethink their decision. I'm pretty new to the channel and I love what your doing. Keep going :)
I do. My advice is to buy the lights from lone rider but then buy the discounted bundle without the lights from us. Money to be saved and extra warranty too.
@@ABIKETHING Bummer. I already bought the discounted bundle from from lights and MotoCan. Oh well, at least I know where to come for more stuff. I been thinking about the B6 rear brake light thing, is that compatible :)
Steve, since you are in discussions with different brands of lighting companies, do you know if anyone are planning a classic or retro type of light? I went from a 1250 GSA to an R18 Roctane and I would really like to add lights matching the bike, mostly to be seen. Or is the retro/classic market too small compared to all the adventure christmas lights?
To me, the best ever combination is D3+D2 pods with “smart” assignments as well as right lenses. You have maximum daytime visibility, maximum fill in front of you and far enough distance to keep you safe in night time. I don’t even talk about the stylish appearance especially in daytime.
Hey Steve, 1st off all i wish all the best in comming year may all the wishes came true. The 2nd is you made a grate video explaining bikers how to be more visibe in trafic. I dud buy MotorLights in pre order bundle for my GsA1250 in September from Lone Rider team. I did got them install them and the product is Amazing. The Bike is in Garage and I turn him on ewry vikend and I noticed thet one of the Light have hardware issue on daylights. Anna from did send waranty . But anyway I made a video of it can share if you want it. Just to mention I m not sponsored by anyone, just to say the Lights are wery good choice to upgrade your bike.
I bought the Moto Lights in the 2nd batch, which is supposed to ship late December. I have been unsuccessful in getting a response from Lone Rider as what exact date that will be. My order is just sitting in “Unfulfilled “ status, which means nothing has been done yet. I am trying via contact us on their website whilst being logged into my account.
I have both lights and I had to run another set of lights along side the Moto light drl ring. If you have space and to ezcan the stick with Denali if you don’t then the Moto lights are for you.
Double check traffic laws, rules and codes for the areas you 're riding. Some areas specifically state, running / headlights must project either white or either yellow colour not both at the same time. Now during the Christmas period at low speeds, to enhance the spirit you can of course dress your bike as a Christmas tree.
Traffic laws for which country? However I’m pretty sure Honda Africa twins and the 1250gs from 2021 both have amber and white drls projecting forwards. Ive seen these all over the world without any exceptions. Are Honda and BMW breaking traffic laws?
I think that I prefer the look of the denarli lights to be honest, but I like the functionality of the data system. Have you seen the lazerlight pods they look amazing
I bought my D3s and Hexcan from you a while back. I can't fault them but I do have motolights on order. I would have preferred to buy from you. Like you say, I am not confident with the motolights drl ring being as visible as the D3 on 20% so I'm thinking I may add an orange lens to the D3 and run them at 20%.as drl only. Good video, highly informative as always.
@ABIKETHING of course, getting the D3 lens from you. Lonerider are probably already aware that people buy from people and you'll be a dealer soon. Sorry it was too late for my bike upgrade.
When i next buy lights and controllers I will only be buying from you, if this means keeping moving forward with Denali, then this will be at the loss of Lone Rider. On the warranty I live in the west coast of Ireland, Rust central, no questions asked ABT replaced the 2x D4, the 2x S4s and the GSA light bar. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT Service,
This whole video was literally an audition for Lone Ridr to see what theyd be getting themselves into with ABT. Nothing wrong with this at all mind you ;) I honestly hope they let you in.
I agree, a bike thing is an amazing marketeer - his bundles created with Denali will actually bring added value for the motolight, will give riders the chance to create a setup by completing their purchase with items that lone rider don’t currently have.
I haven’t looked into it yet. I was deliberately waiting for the off-season to dig deeper. Now is the time I guess. I was a little disappointed though, after just 2-3 months installed. I hope their US CS stands up for the issue. Btw, enjoying the channel from Missouri, USA.
I love the explanation but you didnt convince me which one of these lights is the winner here. I expected more images and videos of comparing the two lights.
I didn’t want to appear biased. They’re both top lights. You’re going to be pleased with either so just go with your heart. I’ve given you as much info on them as I can.
Hmmmm, not sure about the Lone Rider Spot light feature, would "target fixation" be an issue for it maybe? It looks a bit distracting to me. I'm looking at buying a new GSA in the new year, and had Lone Rider lights and visit to you at some point after the bike arrived. The DRL is disappointing, and the general light coverage still not as good as the Denali. I might need to rethink the Lone Rider lights for now as part of my plan.
Sadly, nobody talks about the Kelvin colour temperature. 😡 As far as I know, both run at 6000 Kelvin, which is an awful cold white. It causes brain fatigue and makes everything looks white, instead of showing the real surface colours. So the tarmac looks white, as well as the soil, the potholes, etc. So it is a lot harder for the eye to accurately evaluate the obstacles. What is even worse is the fog and dirt reflections you get. All white lights should be 5000 Kelvin, as the ones made by Baja Designs.
Shame the Brexit.. that's the only reason why I stopped buying from UK, and the Bike Thing is a good example why I'm so pissed off to loose some of the the best stores in Europe. Anyway.. who knows one day UK decide to come back to where it belongs, Europe.
OK so that was a poor management decision, Why wouldn't they supply a fantastic company like yours, their loss. Yes, No, poor management. I think another dealer has got wind of this and put the boot in. Cuz they are running scared. Happy Christmas ^ Have a fab New Year. Maybe they will re-think their unbelievable decision 🤔
Denali’s powdercoating, and subsequent warranty is shit. Flat out denied warranty while in the warranty period for heavy corrosion on my D4 pods. Mind you, they advertised them submerged in a glass of water. Horrendous. I’d much rather have Lone Rider, the MotoLights have been great so far!
I think it is unfortunate that you are not a Lone Rider dealer, I really like Lonrider products and have good experience with Lonrider, but I would still prefer to be able to buy Lonrider products from you, I am a private customer who orders for both myself and friends and recommend Abikething to friends and acquaintances. What makes me prefer to buy from you is my experience with Abikething's service and that you get honest answers to what you are wondering. and not least the incredibly fast service you have, from when I order from you in the UK until I have the goods here in Bergen Norway it takes less than 48 hours,
At 35:28 I express confusion around what controller is compatible with what lights.

How do the D3 spots compare to the motolight spots? Love my D7 pros, thinking about adding D3 spots for those brisk paced night rides.

I’m not aware of anything retro out there. Sorry
V4 Multistrada kit ordered. Can't remember if you mentioned it. Do you get the speed sensitivity for the centre light with just a standard HexEZCan?
Yes. That’s all part of the ezbus tech on both controllers
@ABIKETHING great thanks for replying. Have a great Xmas
To me, the best ever combination is D3+D2 pods with “smart” assignments as well as right lenses. You have maximum daytime visibility, maximum fill in front of you and far enough distance to keep you safe in night time. I don’t even talk about the stylish appearance especially in daytime.
Is there anyway LoneRider can make the DLRs brighter with future software/data updates?
I’m not sure. That’s a question for them or maybe fire the question to one of their dealers.
Just to mention
I m not sponsored by anyone, just to say the Lights are wery good choice to upgrade your bike.
Glad you got it sorted.
Stick in there. I’m confident they will get back to you soon. Post Black Friday and Xmas craziness I guess.
I have both lights and I had to run another set of lights along side the Moto light drl ring. If you have space and to ezcan the stick with Denali if you don’t then the Moto lights are for you.
If you daisy in the 2nd pair of lights to the DRL portion of the D7 Pros, it can still be done with 1 ezcan.
I did have them on one but kept doing a relay on the sound bomb. Hex said it was best to get a 2nd ezcan.
Is the KTM 1290 fully supported by the Moto Can? After your review, I am thinking hard about canceling my Lone Rider order.
Yes the 1290 (post 2021) is fully supported by the ezcan. If LR have the motocan for this bike…..it’s the same controller.
I think that I prefer the look of the denarli lights to be honest, but I like the functionality of the data system.
Have you seen the lazerlight pods they look amazing
I’m with you on this.
No I haven’t seen lazer pods
@ quite a few of the lads with the pick up trucks and the defenders have them some of the kits look OE.
They do the pods and light bars
But Denali Cansmart has EZ Bus option. Why can't control Moto Lights?
It’s not been unlocked. I’m assuming Denali have specified they do not want to support certain competitors products
Thanks for sharing. This is a good solution
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT Service,
I think I remember you. Warranty is warranty right? It’s great to be able to do this and reassuring it’s not just empty words
I bought a brand new pair of D7Pro’s for my 24 GSA, one of them stopped working after 3 months. Not kidding.
5 year warranty came in handy I guess. Did you get the support you were looking for? Was it us or someone else? Love to hear either way
I haven’t looked into it yet. I was deliberately waiting for the off-season to dig deeper. Now is the time I guess. I was a little disappointed though, after just 2-3 months installed. I hope their US CS stands up for the issue. Btw, enjoying the channel from Missouri, USA.
24:32 , the moment I realised I made no mistake buying d7pro , I was confused tho thank you
I can see safety when buying this auxiliary pod light 💡.
D7 is simply better than the new MotoLigth.
As far as I know, both run at 6000 Kelvin, which is an awful cold white.
Okay then Loan Rider, you do you 😂
Denali’s powdercoating, and subsequent warranty is shit. Flat out denied warranty while in the warranty period for heavy corrosion on my D4 pods. Mind you, they advertised them submerged in a glass of water. Horrendous.
I’d much rather have Lone Rider, the MotoLights have been great so far!
Good example of why a consumer should buy from a dealer like me. My returns to the manufacturer are never questioned.
I lost patience after 3 minutes. I will now exit and order Puig lights.
😆
I think it is unfortunate that you are not a Lone Rider dealer, I really like Lonrider products and have good experience with Lonrider, but I would still prefer to be able to buy Lonrider products from you, I am a private customer who orders for both myself and friends and recommend Abikething to friends and acquaintances.
What makes me prefer to buy from you is my experience with Abikething's service and that you get honest answers to what you are wondering. and not least the incredibly fast service you have, from when I order from you in the UK until I have the goods here in Bergen Norway it takes less than 48 hours,
Thank you for your kind words.
