FIRST TIME At Chiang Mai’s BIG Fresh Warorot Market! 🇹🇭

- Today we went for a more western breakfast at Smoothie Blues in Nimman before going to Warorot Market and experiencing an authentic Thai Wet Market, or Fresh Market. Also known as Kad Luang, meaning Big Market, Warorot is home to a large market with textiles, spices, food - i think you can buy literally anything here! I tried Jackfruit for the first time, because i thought it was Durian 😂
We then had lunch on the Ping River and explored downtown Chiang Mai, Thailand.

for breakfast i would recommend some congee with fried dough known as "joke and pa tong koh" or a classic tom lued mhoo which is a soup with all the pork goodness in it !

I hated Durian. I don't like it at all, but. I find its Ice Cream version very appetizing. They tastes amazing. I think the Diary Queen still have their Durian limited time menus right now, I'm not sure though. But the Diary Queen and Swensen does a very good job with Thai Fruit Ice Cream. When the season came they'll have their Thai fruit Ice Cream menus for you to choose. On the Diary Queen side it's very seasonal, but. I think Swensen has them on permanently. So. I recommend Swensen if you wish to try Durian Ice Cream, they also have Mango Sticky Rice Ice Cream that one is my favorite thing ever.

It seems like you two are planning to try durian. The result of first-time trying durian is usually love or hate.
Maybe my recommendation below can help.
To try durian first time;
1. you should not smell deeply.
2. Start with half-ripe durian, nobody likes ripe durian even durian lover.
3. Because of good-to-eat durian is half ripe, unripe durian is good for making durian chips, ripe durian is for making preserved. So if you notice, the durian seller use a wooden stick to knock every durian to check it. And they try to sell almost ripe durian first because no one need it!!!
4. How to check the level of ripe durian.
4.1. Visual, stalk still hard to break from its fruit, the peel not split off.
4.2 smell closely to unopened fruit(near the thorns), vegie smell=unripe, CAN'T tolerate its odor=ripe
4.3 Listen the noise of knocking(hard to explain, need experience)
4.4 touching durian meat. Normally the seller will open small area for buyer to touch the meat. So you can try by gently pressing by your index finger, hard like a rock=too ripe, soft like paste=ripe like sh*t🤮, the good one is can be pressed but not soft yet
5. You may ask surrounded thai people to help you to choose. Tell them you need "HARM-HARM" with low tone. It works!!!
This can change durian hater to be dirian lover. 😉
