Thank you! I have been stuck on this passage in a solo I’m learning on for weeks now and after watching your video I tried breathing through the passage and then lengthening my notes and I went from this muddy mess under tempo to clarity at full tempo within minutes!
Omg thank you so much. I could never get double tonguing to work with any other syllables, but the “co worked! I needed to learn double tonguing for audition music!
👏Fantastic video Phill, some amazing nuggets of gold here. I was actually practicing my double tongue this week and can't wait to see what a difference these tips will make! Thanks for the tips!
Amazing video! I have difficulties with being short or staccato with my tongue and being fast doing so. I can only be very *very* legato when trying to play faster. Do I just need to gradually increase tempo? Or any other tips you have would be very helpful mate!
Try being very firm at the start of each note and holding the notes for their full value. Chose a tempo that you can be firm at the start of each note before you increase the tempo.
I am here cause I’m auditioning for the small ensemble portion of the marching band show and the 16th notes requires using the double tounging technique. I have to learn in in 1 day. 😥
@@nickhuffman47 oh I actually the day of the audition I got asked if I wanted to switch to mellophone so I’m not going to do trumpet for the show do I didn’t try out after all but i still have to learn double tounging because mellophone has more 16th notes in the show.
@@nickhuffman47 but I didn’t try out for the mellophone small ensemble thing because it was my first time playing the mello and I wasn’t that familiar with the mello music. So I was like I can try out for something next time.
I can do it no problem practicing the wind pattern, but not with any consistency on the instrument. Can you go in to much more detail about what the tongue is doing. I'm not really aware if this rocking motion you speak of.
Hi Craig, head over to www.LearnTrumpetNow.com there are more instructional videos there to help you out. I also have other videos on RUclips that could be benneficial. Just search Phill O'Neill double tongue. These videos are a demonstration of how I approach playing the trumpet and the common instruction many of my students find works on the whole. Its difficult to offer specific advice to you without seeing you play. If this video doesnt quite help you achieve your goal I'd suggest getting some lessons to get very slecific advice to you (also avalible on my website) Happy practising
Hey mate, just noticed your review for the Huxley Trumpet! Aldi are selling it again tomorrow, just wanna know if it held up alright over the past year? Cheers,
I don't exactly know how to get the air started with the ku I'm able to get air when speaking but once I try to play it on my mouthpiece I can't the technique on ku correct
My cousin (twice removed) has a trumpetist boyfriend, who says he is famous in the States. Anyway this guy told the cousin that your advice is all to wack, and he say the syllables to use are "TAH CHA" . Think Cha Cha (the dance but with TA at the front). He is called Kurt Thumson, an my cuz tells me he has a very fast tongue. Please advise.
I’ve never heard of Kurt Thompson so I doubt he’s as famous as he claims to be. These aren’t the only syllabus I use to double tongue. I have many different ways to do things. I have taught these syllables in this video because of the people who are watching. The aim is to give the advice the people in this community need at this stage of their development.

Great video, Phill. Is that a Stomvi Titan?
Thanks Korlyama, Yes its the Stomvi Titan. It’s a great horn. Have you tried them?

Hi BogusChip,
It's a terrible trumpet. In all honesty for just a little more money the ZO plastic trumpet is much better quality than the Huxley.
