On "Goi, Rode, Goi" Arkona, the Pagan Metal mongers revolving around frontlady Masha Scream, give the legends and traditions of their Russian homeland new life and thus, forge steadfastly forth creating a captivating mix of metal and folk exceeding in a welcomed diversity. The characteristic signature sounds stemming from the mind of Masha run through the compositions in which folk melodies, delivered by authentic and at times medieval instruments, join the lively metal riffs, blastbeats, and double bass interludes. The songstress and concurrent band mastermind provides depth with varied vocal lines that include a wide spectrum of clean and black metal parts. The highlight of this latest work is undoubtedly the monumental "Na moey Zemle" on which an illustrious guest line-up (Heidevolk, Menhir, Månegarm, etc.) provide the track with a character all of its own, making it the core of "Goi, Rode, Goi". While this sweeping and majestic epic song stands out deservingly, it certainly does not take away from the remaining tracks' songwriting merits. As in the past, Kris Verwimp's masterful brush has visually ennobled this package. Listening from America. This is the first time, well two days ago, that I've heard Russian metal. This so far is likely my favorite band I've heard so far in my short time. Love how Russian folk is incorporated into it. This is fantastic. She has a beautiful voice. The fact that it's in Russian makes it far more fascinating. Awesome.

I seen these guys in Montreal in 2017 with korpiklini. I shown up at the venue early and got to act as a roadie for both bands. Was one of my favorite concert experiences of my life.

Finally, a female metal musician who doesn't show her vagina and breasts to lure hungry sexual predators and overall persuade people to listen to her music. Masha is beautiful, I have to admit that. But, she is also utterly talented which interests me even more. She is not an average stereotypical "black leather" female metal musician. This also has a raw feeling to it since it's in Russian which I really like.

The Black Leather look was around much before Metal came around, and that's kinda how it started. Black Sabbath had the black leather look, and they are the original Metal, then come the Pioneers like Judas Pries and Deep Purple who also went for that aesthetic. Basically, Metal started as 100% black leather but moved away from it really quickly.
