I lost a friend (colleague in my former job) to brain tumor, he was only in his early 30s. He was in my evening prayers, but I was never sure if I was close enough. Somehow, this song made me believe I was actually close enough. I feel forgiven and I can't stop crying. Thank you for the beautiful song!
The best friend of my brother just past away today and we will remember him with this song. Nice to had somebody that care about your brother and makes his life better. :)
jens lekman lyric a day jens lekman - evening prayer 9/12/2018 "How I pray that I could stop the pain When the pain needed more than ibuprofen How I pray that I could take away your worries When they ran deeper than the West Pacific Ocean"
first time I heard this, I was digging the groove but dismissed the song for it's weird lyrics. then I really listened to the lyrics and saw how beautiful this was. love it!
At Babak's school, there is a 3D printer And he prints out a model of the tumor That was surgically removed from his back this winter And it's rugged gray plastic, it looks lunar He puts the tumor in his breast pocket As we head out for a beer It's been a long, hard year For a friend who's not sure if he's close enough To be allowed to care or just be there To include you in his evening prayer How I pray that I could stop the pain When the pain needed more than ibuprofen How I pray that I could take away your worries When they ran deeper than the West Pacific Ocean He puts the tumor on our table Says, "So, this is what caused all my fears" It's been a long, hard year For a friend who's not sure if he's close enough To be allowed to care or just be there To include you in his evening prayer Last orders, the waitress slides Down from her bar stool Looks at the tumor, says, "What is this?" "It looks kinda cool" Babak's okay despite what he's been through But he sees I'm made uneasy by the model he's done He says, "It's helped me a lot to have a friend like you When I saw you worry, I knew I had to be strong" He gives a tumor to the waitress Says, "Give my friend here a beer" It's been a long, hard year I just wasn't sure if we were close enough But I want you to know how much I cared That you were in my evening prayer I want you to know that you were in my prayer I want you to know that you were in my prayer
I don't get why people say this is a sad or bittersweet song. It's a very happy one, in fact. A guy got rid of a tumor and by printing his tumor on a 3d printer he learn to face his fear of it coming back, while the other guy, who was worried if he could be considered a friend or not to that tumor guy, received his recognition as a true friend in the end. Very happy ending.
The Eight Consciousnesses is a classification developed in the tradition of the Yogacara school of Buddhism. They enumerate the five senses, supplemented by the mind, defilements of the mind, and finally the fundamental store-house consciousness, which is the basis of the other seven.
Listen to the lyrics. The guy prints out a model of a tumor that he had in his back on a 3D printer and brings it to the bar that they go to. Don't think the story is from Jens directly as a lot of these songs are written about other people's experiences.

Just sent this to my mom who's had a brain tumor removed in the past..ty Jens
I absolutely love this song. Just put this album on again today for the first time in years. It’s so rare to hear a song about male friendship.
This is the perfect song to listen on my birthday after a crappy week
I just love it!
Probably the only (mostly) happy song about struggling with cancer ever written. I love it.
I don't think it's exactly happy, but not sad either. it's bittersweet.
@@bullsfan2021 The music is happy. Nice toe-tapping tune. But then, listen to the lyrics, and toes stop tapping. At least mine did.
Jens Lekman, Future Islands, Fleet Foxes soon... February feelin real nostalgic

Another magnificent song from my favourite album of 2017. Well done, Jens, as always.
This song makes me happy!!! Thanks!!!!
At Babak's school, there is a 3D printer
And he prints out a model of the tumor
That was surgically removed from his back this winter
And it's rugged gray plastic, it looks lunar
He puts the tumor in his breast pocket
As we head out for a beer
It's been a long, hard year
For a friend who's not sure if he's close enough
To be allowed to care or just be there
To include you in his evening prayer
How I pray that I could stop the pain
When the pain needed more than ibuprofen
How I pray that I could take away your worries
When they ran deeper than the West Pacific Ocean
He puts the tumor on our table
Says, "So, this is what caused all my fears"
It's been a long, hard year
For a friend who's not sure if he's close enough
To be allowed to care or just be there
To include you in his evening prayer
Last orders, the waitress slides
Down from her bar stool
Looks at the tumor, says, "What is this?"
"It looks kinda cool"
Babak's okay despite what he's been through
But he sees I'm made uneasy by the model he's done
He says, "It's helped me a lot to have a friend like you
When I saw you worry, I knew I had to be strong"
He gives a tumor to the waitress
Says, "Give my friend here a beer"
It's been a long, hard year
I just wasn't sure if we were close enough
But I want you to know how much I cared
That you were in my evening prayer
I want you to know that you were in my prayer
I want you to know that you were in my prayer
this song/story is a perfect combo of light/heavy. thanks Jens!
this song makes me so happy
this is the best ever!!!

Yes but our diseases are always reminders of our mortality. Even with a happy ending.
We play this at work and I can't stop laughing
I like the production on this song

Go take a tour through some 60's-70's hits if you think these lyrics are weird, haha

Sounds like it's going to break into It's The Same Old Song by the Four Tops at one point...
It would've helped.
Music accompanying lyric is so anodyne as to be practically not there.

Why does everyone think this is great?....
Jackson Willette It reminds me of Paramore's last album, upbeat beats with sad/dark lyrics.
Right?
