As a Chargers fan, I initially liked but didn't love the Herbert pick. At the time, both scouts and advanced stats were pretty down on Herbert, but I thought he was a good calculated risk at no. 6. I really warmed up to Herbert after seeing in this video how quickly his mind worked at dissecting film and plays. Smart quarterbacks aren't always successful; they need a quick tactical mind -- absorb gameplans/playbooks, dissect defenses, communicate with teammates, react to broken plays. Of course, Herbert shattered all expectations, even for the biggest die-hard Chargers homers.

@@todaywaspretty6309 so wild. I think it’s the aesthetics for people. Herb doesn’t look like a 3 sport athlete yet he was. Also a bit bigger than burrow/tua. Fully athletic. Brains for days. Just poor poor scouting. Oh well seems like miama base is content so we can all just mind ours from here on out! 😎⚡️

After watching this, I am even more perplexed how Klatt gave Herbert a 2nd round grade. Then again, Drew Brees was picked in the 2nd round, so I admit, none of this is a science. No QB coming out of college will be perfect, but GMs must project a floor and ceiling. How could you not strongly project a kid like this: 6'6, 240, 4.7 40, a 39 wonderlic, a 4.02 biology major, a strong work ethic, who completed more than 90 td passes in his college career? I think it is hard to project too how someone with Herbert's intelligence will then navigate becoming a professional. The fact he immediately began working on his footwork, his mechanics, and his touch -- that he hired 3DB and worked with Tom House and John Beck right after he graduated -- simply shows he wasn't cut from the same cloth.

Glad the Chargers got this right. I was nervous they wouldn’t replace Rivers immediately. I loved the pick but didn’t know he would take the reigns that fast. Bolt up⚡️

As a Bolts fan i'm still not sold on this move, but this kid has blown me away in interviews i've seen before after the draft and just the way he says shoot like Phillip makes me really like this kid a lot more. Still want a ridiculously motivated and relatively cheap Cam because this team is ready to win now aside from a massive ? at QB and I don't think Tyrod is the answer, but we'll see what happens. Like this kids future the more I hear him speak though.

@@WillAnderson3rd Ya he's got a lot to prove and a long way to go until he can be compared to Cam, Cam was an absolute monster coming out of Auburn and before his injuries in the NFL. Their a similar size, but even then Herbert is nowhere near the physical freak that Cam looks like even right now.
