In 1976 France built the Mirage 4000: delta wing, 2 jet engines, canards just above the air intakes. Its design was the ancestor of both Rafale & Eurofighter. 1st flight on March 9, 1979, way before the Eurofighter (march 1994). France pulled out of the Eurofighter project when other involved countries said they didn't need a carrier-capable fighter. For French Navy it was non negotiable because they operated then 2 CATOBAR aircraft carriers. So France made the Rafale on its own, but with a modified design (reinforced fuselage, air intakes, canard position, landing gear, tailhook...). Rafale is certified for operating on US Navy aircraft carriers since 2007.

Rafale is compact, separate air intakes, the landing gear fits in the fuselage keeping the wings clear for max hard points, front LG is not below the weak air intake for hard landings on aircraft carriers.
Let's say that the best is the one that sells the most to countries that did not build the plane and if foreign customers buy more Rafale than EF Typhoon it is surely for a good reason.
I think that Rafale is superior but the sales are not a compelling factor proving its superiority. Typhoon it is difficult to sale since it is produced by a consortium of countries and each member can veto a sale.

Eurofighter Typhoon do not sell well for reasons that are political rather than ability.
1. Rafale is ITAR FREE
2. Germany also Sanctioned sales to Saudi Arabia and Turkey ( a bit vague on the Turkey deal )

Remember what you wish for as Rafale has a Franco German Spanish replacement ( France/ Dassault don't want a flip flop partner but are stuck with one now....guess who )
Remember your history books....P51 was slated for it's low ceiling and poor climb rate until it used the RR Merlin then it became the best piston fighter of the war. Likewise modifications alter the performance of aircraft throughout the life cycle. F15 is past 50 years and still relevant.

Typhoon has more agility. Are you sure ? This is not the impression I have when I watch air shows.
Rafale is designed for carrier landing therefore it must have good safe low speed handling. Hence the close coupled canards. That gives excellent airshow capability. EFT has it's canard position much further away from it's centre of gravity to give leverage at transonic speeds, were the fighting is done, hence it can pull 9g turns constantly until Mach 1.2 with 2 fuel tanks and missiles. It also has better TTW with more powerful engines so it can outrun and outclimb opponents. Gripen has close coupled canards for its roadside party piece. These are intentional design choices and help make the aircraft fulfil it's potential mission.
French do not make many different weapons but whatever they make are top class, there is just no comparison with any other country in its classes, be it American, German or Russian

La laideur du Typhoon est létale.
Rafale would look a 10 but it has a growth on its face ( some call it a fixed Refueling Probe ) and that lowers it's RCS also. The small nose gives a sleek look but allows the smallest radar of all. Sometimes it's better to look mean than pretty.

I knew since „vastly“ that the rest will be mostly nonsense. The aircraft’s are pretty similar and both are very capable. It’s actually not even true that the Rafale never lost a training fight. I have friends who fly or flew Typhoons, they won training fights against the Rafale they lost fights against them.

Typhoon is clearly designed focused on air interception/superiority. Its main advantage are its engines which are clearly more powerful than those of the Rafale - but this comes at a cost both in price and in maintenance. The smaller size of the Rafale (possibly due to the need to be carrier-compatible) has also player a role. Both aircrafts are weak regarding long term development compared to US counterparts which is reasonable since volumes of european fighters are traditionally much smaller. Although the sales of an aircfraft do not necessarily represent which one is better, the Rafale seems to have gained momentum towards the Typhoon, mainly due to its relatively lower price and maintenance costs and also due to its greater versatility. The main advantage of Rafale is that it is based in a consistent uniform philosophy since it was a one-country design with very focused specs whereas the Typhoon had to address multiple and not always compatible specs. Overall I would consider Typhoon a 'better' fighter on a spec-by-spec comparison but Rafale is clearly a better all-rounder (and most probably the best all-rounder worldwide as is essentially the only fighter designed from the beginning on that basis). Rafale is good in every aspect - not very powerful engines but powerful enough, decent radar, very good electronic warfare suite (very clever french move to focus on that), a decently stealthy design although not as advanced as the F-35 (but stealth comes at a considerable cost in other aspects...), great reliability (France does not have the luxury of a big fleet so losses are not acceptable...) and very good air-to-air missiles to compensate on the interception role. And as a whole package it comes at a price that can be justified, whereas Typhoon may not be so... . I believe that if Rafale gets more powerful powerplants (+10%, not more) and an upgraded radar (not that current AESA is bad but an upgrade will be needed to keep it competitive - although some 'nose widening' may also be considered for increased radar size - size does matter!) its capabilities will increase overall and this is one other of its benefits - you do not need to do that much to improve the original design.

Ako francuzi prodaju srbima (genocidno, agresorskoj naciji) to bi doslovno bila potpuna izdaja prema natu. Jer svi znamo kako je potpuno glupo ovdje izjavljeno da su oni neutralni. Nije nikakva tajna kako se otvoreno svrstavaju uz rusiju i sjevernu koreju.

Na pocetku su zajedno krenuli, ali se onda francuska povukla iz projekta i napravila mozda i najbolji omni roll na svijetu, rafal. Tajfun nema niti priblizno mogucnosti koje ima rafal. Rafal je jedini avion na svijetu koji je radio bojna dijelovanja, bez podrske drugih aviona i bez awacs
