  • In this 2nd video of a 6 part "SUMMIT SUPERCUTS" video series about Periodic Paralysis, Dr. William Harr discusses the importance of safe anesthesia practices for periodic paralysis patients. Having surgery as a PP patient can be very difficult. Dr. Harr covers topics such as preparation for both planned and emergency surgerie, as well as notes for each type of periodic paralysis (Hypokalemic, Hyperkalemic, Andersen Tawil Syndrome, Myotonia Congenita and Paramyotonia Congenita). This presentation was filmed at the annual PPA Conference in Orlando, Florida along with 5 other discussions about PP. If this discussion was insightful, you might find the other talks in this series helpful as well.

Curt, thank you for your comment. You mentioned you didn't know if you have hypo or hyper. Knowing which form of PP you have is very important in the treatment. If you live here in the United States, here is a link to a no cost to you genetic testing that might be able to provide you the answer to which type of PPP you have. www.invitae.com/en/uncoveringperiodicparalysis/
We hope that you find this information helpful.
