I never understood the point of a prepoo until I read a comment on someone else's video. That person said they do it as a way to detangle before washing to prevent breakage. I can understand that, wet hair is weaker hair. If you have very tangled hair it's better to do it on the drier side than soaking sobbing wet. As for me, my hair detangles pretty easily so I skip that extra step. But if my hair ever gets super tangled I now know what to do 😁🙏🏾.
I am not a 4c natural, but your videos and tips have helped me out in the beginning of my journey. I have been natural for about 7 years. My hair is the longest it has ever been. In the last year are two, my hair has become thin. My hair has never really been super thick.. So,, I had to come to the one that helped me in the beginning....I love your channel. I use coconut oil to prepoo, but no longer do it overnight. I’ll throw it on 30mins-3hrs (depending on errands I have to run) and then let the warm water do the rest of the work. I also don’t rewet my hair to do the leave-in conditioner & cream portion. I put on leave-in conditioner right after I thoroughly wash out the deep conditioner, wait until my hair is damp, oil my scalp, & then use a cream to seal in my moisture.
Before I used to pre poo randomly but now it is a must cause wash day is so much easier when my hair already detangled. I also learned the hard way that my deep conditioner, and leave-in should not be the only thing moisturizing my hair. My favorite product is the Mane choice heavenly halo pre poo and Negas Banda Chebe pre poo treatment

I do not pre poo. I wear my hair in twist outs and feel there’s no need for it. For me it’s just more shampooing I will have to do to get the extra oil or products off my strands. Running my hair under warm water and lightly finger detangling before adding my shampoo works for me.
I just comb my hair very well and then wash it use a store bought shampoo and conditioner (salon quality) and blowdry. I only need to use a serum at night when I roll my hair. My hair is always manageable and is healthy. IA about using all this stuff, it’s unnecessary. Getting quarterly trims and combing my hair regularly has solved the need to do all these different things.
4b wash & go natural here. I stopped pre-pooing last year when I looked into simplifying my regimen. It now takes me 1.5-2 hours and that includes diffusing until about 90% dry. Hygral fatigue was only a concern when shampooing, deep conditioning and air drying took 8-12 hours. Similar to the OP, I finger separate my coils in the shower right before shampooing. The water reactivates the products from the previous wash day. Super easy!
I don’t prepoo for hygral fatigue, I think it’s suppose to be rare to get, mainly happens if your hair is wet for a prolonged time. I either use an oil to lightly detangle or flaxseed gel cause it keeps my hair soft and helps it not tangle in the shower.
Confession time. Years ago for about 3-4 months I used to prepoo because it was the wave at the time and all the natural hair girls with long hair were doing it. It never worked out well for me so I haven’t done it since. Now that I know more about my hair I realize it didn’t do anything good for me because I have low porosity and fine strands. It takes a good while for the water to get in there in the first place and once it does, it takes forever to dry. All the oil did was make wash day harder and my hair rarely turned out good because I probably wasn’t washing out all the oil so it was weighed down. Coconut oil and grapeseed oil were the worst offenders btw.
I too have low porosity hair along with five strands yet I can’t go without pre pooing because wash day will be a mess. My hair is significantly softer and retains more moisture when I pre poo. I guess this goes to show what works for one is not gonna work for all
Im 4c low porosity with fine-medium strands and it works for me. I even include castor and palm oil and leave my oil mixture in my hair overnight. however, i do wash my hair with raw african black soap and acv rinse, so that could be the difference.

Omg yes, red palm oil is amazing, my tangles just slick out with it I also use it with coconut oil, another one which really gets me nicely detangled with minimal effort
I prepoo purely because I prefer to detangle prior to washing my hair (switched to this after having to big chop following an aphogee protein treatment that strengthened my entire head into one loc lol). Even still, I hadn't noticed a difference with prepoos (oil or oil+conditioner). For the last 8 months or so, though, I've been making my own by soaking ayurvedic herbs- fenugreek and aloe- in water and blending with oil+guar gum. Not only provides a ton of slip for preepoing, I also notice much less hair lost during wash day and I've seen fantastic length gains since switching to this method. A bit more labor intensive than just grabbing an oil, but has had much better results for me and, since I like to soak a bunch at once and freeze in cupcake tins, I only have to do this every 2-3 months.

I don't use any of these to prepoo to prevent hygral fatigue. It's not something people should really even worry about because it takes a lot to get hygral fatigue. I use a pre shampoo treatment which has red palm oil, coconut oil and an essential oil, sometimes I add a paste to the oils, sometimes I use it with aloe Vera - I just wash the pieces, poke holes in it and leave it in whatever container the oil is in, all the juices seep into the oil, so no blending and straining for me!

I pre poo to loosen up old product and heavy oils dirt and flakes. Because I’m thinking people use it to remove make up it breaks things down. If you put petroleum on the back of your hand and then a loose oil on top of it it breaks up the petroleum making it loose and easier for soaps to wash out. So if you use a loose oil in your hair before a wash it breaks up the buildup and makes it so that you can use less surfactants
I own a house away t from the city. Oil down my septic tank is a no go. Recommended substitutions? I did a prepoo of coconut oil only and then washed with water, followed up with shea butter while damp. But I can't keep drinking this down my drain. Thanks for the video.
@Chokolat Disciple, instead of oil, try using fresh aloe vera. I like using Just For Me Curl Peace detangling treatment. It melts away tangles and is made with aloe vera, marshmallow root extract and raw honey. I purshase it from Sally's. 💜
I use argan oil and sometimes jojoba oil for low porosity. Does it matter if you use olive oil or coconut oil when you have low porosity hair? And is it better to heat up the oil?
I add my own oil mix every morning Grapeseed oil and JBCO. If I wash with Mane cowash I don't bother with a prepoo. If I wash with shampoo then I prepoo. And if I am just rinsing with water then oil afterwards.

It’s necessary to help detangling, I usually use aloe gel with warm water or my favorite from Mane Krush, black owned and works wonders. It far better then that African Pride one .
I prepoo with a DIY fenugreek/aloe mix, coconut, avocado, or DIY ayuverdic oil (as a hot oil treatment). My doesn’t like olive oil🤷🏾♀️
I didn't even know what pre-poo was until I tuned in to your channel way back when. I'm so grateful for your videos.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
I love your channel I used your tip to mix acv and conditioner and it changed my life
I used to prepoo with an oil when I was transitioning in order to finger detangle and make the shower detailing easier. Great vid sis!
Prepoo is a must for me. I use ghee butter, abricot oil, fenugreek gel or fresh aloe gel.
I really like using bentonite clay(Aztec healing) and acv it ALWAYS gets me together…
Oh my goodness I haven’t seen a NappyFu video in forever, but I instantly clicked cause u are always helping me!
Thank you sis. Make sure you have the bell selected. So you’re notified.
@@NappyFumy Niece told me about that oil I ask her when I was in Atlanta I said Niece what you doing with that big thing of Oil and she told me you can put on your hair, your Face your hand if try I no you cook with it's but all that's time not the hair thank again
I prepoop with fresh aloe vera and olive oil it work well no hair loss and leave my hair soft.
My 4c hair likes Honey and oils. So I use a product that has honey in it and of course these oils for a prepoo. Particularly coconut, grape seed, avocado and EVO...
I'll definitely be trying fresh aloe vera for prepoo, lve never really tried it🤷♀️thanks for the tips
Yes, I use coconut oil exclusively for prepooing.
I don’t prepoo often but when I do I use aloe Vera gel ( it moisturizes as well) or a rinse out condition and lots of water
I thought prepoo was to help detangle hair to help during your wash. I use oils and sometimes fresh aloe vera. But I'm ready, drop that knowledge on me Aunty ❤️
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Oil can help with detangling. I use it for that purpose too.
Thanks aunty!
❤🎉😊 I love prepooing! I use coconut oil and xvoo.. 2022 I shaved my hair down to the scalp. At first itmy hair started growing but I began to see balding spots. (I was going through a stressful time. In my family when our women stress we lose hair. Thanks be unto my lord Jesus Christ I'm well.) As I heard you once say if you have a lazy regimen you'll have lazy result 😢 ...... This sista has learned a valuable lesson. My Kinks we're united 😂❤ God bless you and your family Nappyfu
I just love your videos, Pretty Lady! Very informative! Thank you! ❤️
I got the answer to 1 & 2. For 3 I use my herb infused sunflower oil.
I used D ohhhh. Thanks so much for sharing Sis.🥰🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I definitely wil try pre pooing the right way now thank you for sharing
I detangle first with a rince off conditioner (A) and then apply oil (D) for the night. Less shedding in the shower and length rentention
My answer to what I use to prepoo is none of the above. I like to use fresh aloe vera to prepoo
Love your channel, love the scriptures you share
I prepoo with the Mane choice Alpha oil. The slip is bomb 💣 😍
@@naturallykool Thank you!
@@Jaisha26 your welcome 😊
Pretty much everything is bad for septic tanks it seems 🤦🏾♀️ it's so annoying
@@brownskinbeauty. yes ma'am it is!
I use argan oil and sometimes jojoba oil for low porosity. Does it matter if you use olive oil or coconut oil when you have low porosity hair?
And is it better to heat up the oil?
i love how she askesquestions it helps us learn more love you gained a new follower
Thank you hun!!! 🙏🏾
I use mustard oil and sleep in a plastic cap. My hair loves it for pre-pooing.
I add my own oil mix every morning Grapeseed oil and JBCO. If I wash with Mane cowash I don't bother with a prepoo. If I wash with shampoo then I prepoo. And if I am just rinsing with water then oil afterwards.
I actually have never done a pre-poo🤭 because I don't find it necessary when my hair is already full of oils and product.
And yes, the Kinks have full permission to come for me LOL
Someone else said they don't prepoo because all the oil they use during the week keeps their hair permanently in prepoo state. No need to add more.
It definitely makes sense!
I have to work on not slathering myself in oil. Very good points!
Where did you get your bonnet?? 😍
Hey hun. I got it from Ethnic Gals. I did a review about them in this video ruclips.net/video/T_Bsq8cysWc/видео.html
I just lovvvveeeee your personality! Love the transparency!
No I didn’t think it necessary. I put enough oil on my hair through out the week.
i enjoyed watching this, the voice over is bae !
I love that bonnet! I don't prepoo but I love your videos!
"You might see me squeeze it into my ends sometimes! I think that part is really important! Why? Cause I just told myself that it is!" LMAO! hahaaaa
I like to use babassu oil or neges banda chebe pre poo. My hair hates coconut oil, babassu oil is a great alternative
Have you tried any other products from them? I don't see many reviews for them
@@brownskinbeauty. The Chebe pre poo is great, makes my hair really soft, a lot of slip easy to detangle with my fingers and comb. I also brought a herbal tea mist just to test it out and it was good but I felt it wasn't worth the money. You can easily make one yourself. The Auyverdic Hair Gloss is great as well.
I thought prepooing was moisturizing my hair and getting it so wet with detangling jellies whatever then I prepooed with babassu oil and I love it (:
I swear by coconut oil mouth rinsing, swishing it around for up to 20 minutes helps whiten teeth and keep away halitosis
Nappy Fuuuuuu I love your channel!!!!
Thank you for this! Whenever I see people prepoo with water based products I be like...😫, lol. I'm heavy handed as well, workin on that myself. 😉
I love prepoos bc it helps my hair get detangled much easiet than when u try to detangle without oil or after getting ur hair wey!
Try a Curl Can Dream product line. Have heard it works phenomenally well for 4C.
Prepooing helps with hygral fatigue do to us having gallons of water poured onto the hair during the washing process. I use coconut oil as a preepoo.
Yes EVOO my body hates coconut oil from head to too. I have to prepoo its a game changer for me. I use to use just for me pre poo or african pride but found out my hair needs oil and not water to detangle
I use prepooing to help detangle and help with I use a cheap conditioner or oil
I've read that avocado oil penetrates the hair shaft also.
3c/4a whitey white italian girl here...i use a diy coconut/castor oil alma mix for my pre poo and i am at nipple length...
Do you cut your hair often or is it the shrinkage that makes it seem that your hair stays this length ?
Shrinkage sis. I have 95% shrinkage. However, I just cut my hair too. Lol into a shape.
I used avocado or olive oil. I spray water on it first though.
oil or grease...and my hair came out super soft. Then I use olive oil with my DC.
❤Thank so so much for this video. This helps me sooo much
Coconut oil works perfectly as a prepoo for me. I don't use it as leave in, give itchy scalp
“The entire strand will be blessed…” 😂
🌺I learned a lot. Thank you for this video💞
Wow so I been doing this wrong all a long 😭 I've always wondered why I lose so much hair during the washing process
Hey Nappy Fu, love your channel. Not sure sis, but I saw ur episode about ur itchy inflammed scalp, so just wondering. I had the same and found out my itchy scalp came from coconut oil. I was blown away because I was a true coconut oil lover. But when i stopped using, my scalp healed. just sayin.
