Oh hello! Hope you’re all well? Great to see you back!! Definitely no skipping, where’s the fun in that. Great tip on the cleaning but the best bit is your boat now smells of fish and chips!! Phosphoric acid for the keel after cleaning to treat any remaining rust? Rabbit has Mixy. Best to put it out of its misery.
Hi Chris, good to see you back with a smile. A point that you have passed by now . Your keel is acst iron. Dont think it will like epoxy, but hay ho, Akso Noble make a meterial known to us old boys as Navel blue. You might know it as Rust Killer or Rust Cure. It changes iron oxide to Iron ferrate. So to make a good job of the keel, allow keel to go red with surface rust, or just slosh sea water at it & leave it a couple of days, paint over with Rust Killer. then paint with International " Intertuf 16". But if you've done it by now with epoxy. next time try a MUCH cheeper & less time consuming way. Have Fun
Great to see you back after the madness! Rabbit has Myxomatosis. They go blind and die a horrible lingering slow death. It is a kindness to despatch them promptly. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid xx
Just for note, the song playing when you were cleaning the teak, is popular in the south seas especially NZ. It's about the weller brothers who used to bring relief supplies to whaling ships from their whaling station back in the day. Great bit of history
Nice job! Concerning the keel job - i used one of those round metal brushes that you can attach to the angle grinder. Took it all in seconds and then I could use the floppy sandy disc afterwords for a nice finish. I know you a finished with it by now, but for another time 🤙😉 Take care !
Hi. Lovely to see you are back. Since your last vlog, I followed your advice and have bought my boat, the Kikwit II, moored in the KYCN marina on the other side from where Britaly stands. I spotted your boat a couple of months ago. Will be there on Sunday. Cheers.
Ah ha, welcome back, good episode too. I keep white vinegar aboard and use it for cleaning all kinds of stuff, but never used it for cleaning teak outside, that really did come up good, I have pressure washed, dried, sanded, oxalic acid to bleach a bit, and that always works, but the vinegar worked really fast, and I watched you in real time ha ha. On the note of the multitool, I always keep my blunt blades for scrapers, instead of putting pressure on the side use it end on, and each corner of blade. Works a treat as a chipping hammer and is kinder to the tools mechanism than using it side on (I've a Makita one and had to replace the mechanism). Oh and if you want a very good teak oil (which I have used on other hardwoods to nourish and protect, and clean) Oli Natura yacht teak oil from the jungle river retailer, about £23 a tin, it's very thin, has UV protection to keep the teaks colour longer. It's very thin and penetrates the wood fibres before your eyes. Good stuff and cheap as a tin will last a long time.
Always keep a handy magnet around, I used a small plastic dart with a magnet tip - yes from a game kids gave me for retirement- used an eye rinse, keep that handy also, waved it very close to eye without actually touching it and one of the pieces was in deep enough to where I felt it fly out onto the magnet. Magnifying lens revealed six metal flakes from one eye and nine from the other, they flew in through the side of the goggles , bounced of lens into eyes , found the nicks on the inside of lens yet only felt the one that went deeper. Applied trobadex antibiotic and voila, all new.
Great to see you again. Your are the first sailing channels I started watching years ago, which lead to following lots other channels. Glad everything is seems to be working. I have missed your videos. Take care and best wishes. The teak cleaning was very cool to see.
When I was in my teens and working on boats in the 80's, I learned the greatness of White Vinegar. I also learned of a wonderful product called Deks Olje #1 and #2. For teak decks only use number one. And let is set for a week. You reapply once a year and keeps you decks beautiful with no work. Just remember when you put your last coat on to whip off all pooled product. If you do not, your deck will be slick. If you do it right, it is sealed and not slippery. if your working on teak bright work then you can apply the number 2 so you have the shinny Do not worry about perfectly smooth the first year. When you go and do it the next year, then you will get the super smooth glossy surface. With only once a year hassle of varnishing. I did this for years and never was sorry. If you have to have that glossy surface NOW, wait a month before you try sanding it. It will only be gummy when you sand if you do not wait. Otherwise the Deks Olje will soak up TREMENDOUS abuse and will not peel back from scratches in the coating. If you want easy maintenance it is the dream.
Chris great to see you back again. I definitely hope that you will be back on a regular basis soon. Take care and stay stay well. Hope all is well with the family. Looking forward to your sailing adventures in the near future.
All the good on you for the wonderful advice, as always, and especially for helping the rabbit out. I’m in California and a hopefully-future sailor, just to prove that a little kindness truly goes a long way…literally. Fairest winds for you and yours on all your travels.
Thank you Bernie, you can get a free PDF I wrote called "How To Buy Boat At The Best Price Possible" here: boatbuyingblueprint.com which you may find useful for an eventual boat purchase. God bless! 🙏
Welcome back Chris. I did worry about you. Congratulations on your effective de-commissioning of the boat in 2020. I am always impressed by your seamanship.
Welcome back! Indeed a long time no sea. When I saw my boat at end of last year the cabin had a foot of water inside as water had some how been able to get into the bilges from the cockpit plus the sealing boot around the mast on the top of the cabin had perished. It was rank. Had to bail it all out. Nightmare even on a small 34ft long boat. Still an awful lot of water no electric pump available. Plus some one had stolen the large boat covers I had had made for it which did not help as the deck was and still is filthy. The area she's out of the water is the Essex coast which is mud so lots of damp and algae floating around. Very nice clean up of your teak cockpit. White vinegar is good for cleaning, also bicarbonate of soda, baking powder or if you want to lighten the colour of very dark wood very dirty surfaces then use salicylic acid crystals hydrated to about 10% which I used to clean a very heavily dirty flbreglass deck and hull covered in lichen and mould and bird poop also good for cleaning stained white hulls just roller it on leave 10-15 minutes, re-apply and easily scrub off the dirt and stains. A high power jet wash also makes quick work of cleaning a hull with this. Was going to suggest sand/shot blasting the keel. I have the keel on my boat to do as well. Similar size to yours. Did you fill the join where the hull meets the top of the keel? Sorry don't know the technical name for this part of the hull. Also is copper paint any good as one boat I had this kept it's iron keel rust free and clean for many seasons? Wish I could get my boat's electrics sorted like yours and be self sufficient. Must be a great feeling, under sail generating your own power not reliant on the engine or mains power if in port/marina. Don't leave it so long until your next video.
Really miss your videos. Hope your all fine. I have been at Chatham the past year but am trying out Gillingham marina for the next year, unfortunately Medway Yc had no swing mooring room for me. Hopefully will get to meet you some time
Not many pleasant surprises in life,,,, but this definitely was a pleasant one. Glad to see you back on the boat and on RUclips. I always scrub my teak across the grsin to prevent gauging out the softer wood fibres between "the yearrings" .... do you know something that I don't? 😅 sure you do 😂 but I mean abot scrubbing teak ? Best regards from Jarle
The best discs for doing that kind of work are ZEC discs made in Italy. Their discs are high sacrifice and designed to not clog. Well worth buying and keeping aboard as those kind of jobs come up again and again.
Hello Chris, glad to see you back.. I did my fairing 20 meters from Britaly in April, .. if I had known, I would have sent you news :) Good preparation, and see you soon at sea.. Nautical friendships from Belgium (from Nieupoort), and perhaps the pleasure of meeting on July 17
Hi Chris! Nice to see you smiling at work. Really miss your contents. In a few weeks I will go sailing with all my family around Ischia for the first time and hopefully they will like it! Take care of yourself and your family!
Hi Chris, very characteristically of you, although time was very limited you still found time to help the poorly rabbit 🐰and source water and 🥕carrot for it, goodness knows where from? As they’re not that easily found in a boat yards. Nice to see you back and we’ll done for making the effort.
Thank you Paul! (Excuse the late reply!) More videos coming soon, including our inland waterway trip to the Med this summer, God willing! Very best regards, Chris, Rossella & Emma 👍

Definitely Myxomatosis not much you can do other than what you have said sadly.
Cheers Ant & Cid, hope all's well with you! 👍
Just found myself wondering if you all made it out of the mess we have been in for the last couple of years. It is very good to see you again!

Good to see you back. Since then, we made it to the Med last year. Currently sailing near Cannes
Wow great to see you back. Missed all your wisdom and enjoyable vlogs. Don’t leave it so long again. I know a few people I spoke to were worried.

I was only thinking yesterday that I hadn't seen you for a while..... and then up you popped!
Chris... Great to see you back. what a heartbreak to see the boat like that... Hope we'll all see more of Family Britaly!!!
She needs more use! Inland waterways this year, God willing! 👍
Welcome back. We missed you.
I am so pleased for you that all was ok.
I left my boat for a similar time scale. It's emotional. lol
Great video. It is so liberating to hear someone not insisting on pure sine-inverters.
I look forward to more engine videos.

Good to see you back Chris 2.5 years way to long boat looks ok but it does need a good clean just like mine.

@Sailing Britaly *_ WELCOME BACK Chris and familia!!!! Let the adventure begin again and look forward to lots of great episodes. Fair Winds mister! _*
Thank you! 🙏
I crewed on a tall ship and had to scrub the deck across the grain. If you scrub along the grain the brush will wear away the teak.
Chris great to see you back again. I definitely hope that you will be back on a regular basis soon. Take care and stay stay well. Hope all is well with the family. Looking forward to your sailing adventures in the near future.
Oxalic acid is also class for cleaning rust streaks etc or anything really. Not as safe to use as vineger though. Glad you are back on board
Spot on with Farce or CON vid as some say
Wow, great tip, never thought of that, and watching you do it was almost Zen like

use poly strip wheels on your grinder or get a wet blaster nozzle for a jet washer

Great to see you guys are being back
Vinegar is great as a not too harmful cleaner, ive used it on propeller to breakdown the barnacles skeletons

can't you use a wire wheel on your grinder to remove the paint ?
Ah great to see you back ! Must be so excited getting the boat ready after so long look forward to seeing u in the water. Poor little bunny at end
Thank you Sara 🙏
You can get a heavy duty wire brush for the grinder, it made easy work of cleaning my keel.
Thanks for the tip Mark, I'll try one of those next time.
Glad your back again after the lock down, and your sailboat looks great after your TLC, well done Chris..cheers
Good to see your back looking forward to more videos
